Chapter 20 - HAUNTED HOUSE

MALEDICTION (13)

There Is said to be a place, in a land far, far away where mages of extraordinary abilities are taken too for training in sorcery. Whether you believe in fairy tales or not is a question one would often get asked before quickly being carried away on a magical cloud to a wonderland of sorts. Water falls that go up instead of down, unicorns with horns that produce magic, and pots of gold at the end of any rainbow.

Honestly, if you asked me it sounds a little far fetched, but then again who really cares about my opinion. But hypothetically let's say it did exist, there you would find Mother July sited on one of her leather couches in the middle of one of the many enchanted forests. In her hand would be a book on potions and spells.

Her eyes would slowly caress the pages as though she spoke to a lover, but while it might look as though she's actively reading, her mind would be preoccupied by thoughts of something else, or rather someone else.

'Oh Gilly, being far away from you really does make my heart ache.' She thought as she flipped to another page licking her finger in the process, 'But in order to taste delicious fruits, first one must let them ripen.'

She shut her book in frustration. Grabbing a pillow she covered her face.

"But what if I want the fruit now regardless of how it tastes?" She asked, "What if I want to pluck it from its branches and feed upon its juicy insides?"

"You describe sex in such a weird way July."

Sited on the opposite end of the chair was another mage of high esteem.

MOTHER AGNESS, WITCH OF THE WEST

She was dressed in the highest of quality woolen dresses, white from top to bottom. Other defining features were her bright yellow eyes and red hair that stretched all the way from her crown to the soles of her feet. Not to mention her round face that was pale and seemed cold to the touch. Not to mention she was one of the only older witches to still wear a pointy hat (At least someone respects tradition around here)

"You have no idea how I feel." July puffed into her pillow.

"You're acting like an insecure teenager, didn't puberty end over seven decades ago?" Agnes was reading a book of similar nature to the one that July was reading.

"So what?" July defended, "Everything is unnatural when It comes to love." She pulled out a book with a surprisingly 'girly' title.

'THE FRAIGRANT FLOWER BLOOMS WITH DIGNITY.' Was its title.

 "This book says so."

"Uh…" Agnes could only look at her friend with resource. "You do realize the two of you could never be together… right?"

Suddenly the air around them became dense, and the mood had switched from happy go-lucky to depressingly sad in an instant.

"Who are you to tell me that?" It was clear July was enraged, her eyes widened as her veins appeared.

"I'm joking." Agnes got up, returning the book back to the shelf on the wall and without turning back she continued, "As Witch of the north you can have whatever you like."

"Of course, that's what I'm saying." The air became light, and the happy go-lucky mood returned, "I forget how terrible your sense of humor is Agnes, but it was silly for me to think you were serious. Ha! Ha!" She laughed picking up her book and sitting up right.

Agnes sat back down. 'I forget just how dangerous this woman is sometimes.' She thought to herself, 'How emotionally unstable she is. Reading her is like trying to navigate a mine field of emotions. There's a reason why she earned the title wicked witch of the North, just imagining the things she did up there gives me chills.'

"I suppose I won't have to wait long." July interrupted her train of thought.

 "Huh?"

"I can sense that he's growing already at a rapid rate." She licked her lips, "Oh yes indeed, I see Blake's living up to my expectations."

The two witches then resumes their idle chat as the sun set in this fictional place, in a land far, far away.

BACK IN LOLIWE: 3HRS & 14 MINUTES LATER

The graveyard was awfully dark, you'd think a man with near infinite wealth would put some of that money into installing some lanterns at the very least.

But luckily for Gil, he came prepared this time with a lantern of his own. The light emitting from the lantern cast a circular shadow around him, although its reach wasn't that far.

The red light coming from the moon would've helped if not for the dark clouds that hovered above him like ravens looking for their next meal.

 SCRRR!

He heard sudden movement which caused him to turn back, his heart rate had spiked up a little.

'Not good, not good.' He told himself.

"Calm down Gilly." Catherine's voice hummed in his ears, "Remember what Blake told you."

"This place is highly concentrated with fragment energy." Blake had warned. "A normal person stepping into it would be commiting suicide without even knowing it, you'll get crushed under the pressure."

"So, the how do I not get crushed?" Gil had asked.

"Its very simple really. You need to cover yourself with fragment energy equal to or greater than the one surrounding the area."

Blake had explained that by mastering one's Chi (Life energy) And mixing it with fragment energy would enable Gil to enter the area unharmed.

"Since your still new to this a sudden spike in blood pressure or heart rate could cause you to go into a panic and the aura around your body will collapse, leading to your death."

"Yep." Gil took a big gulp, "No pressure at all."

'In, out, in, out, in, out.' He had to remind himself how to breath properly.

"Good, your heart rate's returning to normal." Catherine reassured.

"I'm just not good when it comes to actual scary things." He kept moving.

"I know." Catherine's voice ringed in his ear, "You used to hate coming over for sleepovers since they made you guys sleep outside. And every time you'd come back to the house screaming and swearing that you saw a ghost."

"Yeah well, its not my fault your backyard was scarier than the demons I see being cast out at the Cathedral." Gil gave a small laugh.

"It wasn't that scary, you were just scared of everything."

Gil had completely calmed down now, his head was clear and the fragment energy around his body was stable. He turned around in search of something.

"I have doubts it will be out here, what we're looking for." Gil assured Catherine as he stared at the tombstones. They were arranged by date of death and birth.

"Because, I suppose the guy technically isn't dead… right?" Catherine asked.

"True, Blake did say he was just sleeping, if we want to end malediction waking him up is the only thing we have to do."

 "Yes."

"Well then, we best get started."

A SPOOKY ENCOUNTER AWAITS HIM!
