Selene's POV
Ronan told it the way he did everything — without decoration, without the softening that made difficult things easier to say and harder to hear. Just the facts in the order they had happened, delivered with the particular precision of someone who had been over the sequence enough times in their own mind that the telling of it had become clean through repetition.
"Eight years ago," he said, "there was a wolf named Cara."
He said the name the way you say the names of people you have loved and lost — not with the performed casualness of someone pretending it doesn't matter, but with the controlled steadiness of someone who has decided that the name deserves to be said plainly regardless of what it costs to say it.
