Timeline: Three years before the main story

Location: Kamado Mountain → Butterfly Estate → Ubuyashiki Estate

POV: Split (Tanjiro / Akira / Hashira)

Tanjiro

Kamado Mountain — Dawn

The forest looked… wounded.

Trees were scorched clean through, snow melted in long arcs, and the ground itself seemed carved by heat and force. Tanjiro stood frozen, fingers clenched at his sides.

He could smell it.

Blood.

Burnt flesh.

And something else — something ancient and wrong.

"Akira-san…" he whispered.

Akira stood a short distance away, wiping his blade clean before sheathing it. There was blood on his sleeve, but his posture was steady. Calm.

Like the night hadn't nearly swallowed everything Tanjiro loved.

"They're gone," Akira said. "You're safe."

Tanjiro swallowed. "That man… the one you fought."

Akira looked at him then, eyes serious.

"You don't need to carry that yet," he said. "But you should know this."

Tanjiro listened.

"He was the source of it all."

Tanjiro's breath hitched.

"The demons?" he asked quietly.

Akira nodded once.

---

Leaving the Kamado Family

The decision was swift.

Crows circled overhead, relaying instructions. Hashira prepared to move.

Tanjiro watched as Giyu was lifted carefully, blood loss severe but controlled. His face was pale, jaw clenched against pain.

"Where are you taking him?" Tanjiro asked.

"Somewhere safe," Akira replied. "Where he'll live."

Tanjiro bowed deeply. "Please… take care of my family too."

Akira placed a hand on his head, firm and reassuring.

"I will."

Nezuko clung to Akira's haori stubbornly, refusing to let go.

"You promised," she said.

Akira smiled faintly. "I keep those."

Butterfly Estate — Emergency

The moment they arrived, the calm shattered.

"Severe internal bleeding," Kanae said sharply.

"Lung puncture," Shinobu added, already moving.

"Get him inside. Now."

Akira stayed out of the way, hands clean, breathing steady — but his eyes never left Giyu.

Shinobu worked with frightening precision, movements sharp but controlled. Kanae coordinated silently, their rhythm flawless.

Hours passed.

Finally, Shinobu exhaled.

"He'll live," she said. "But recovery will be long."

Akira closed his eyes briefly.

"…Thank you."

Shinobu studied him. "You're injured too."

"Later," Akira replied.

She didn't argue — just sighed.

Two Days Later — Hashira Meeting

The room was quiet.

Not tense.

Heavy.

Gyomei sat with hands folded in prayer.

Sanemi leaned against a pillar, arms crossed tightly.

Kanae stood straight, expression unreadable.

Shinjuro's eyes burned with something long-buried.

Akira stood before Kagaya Ubuyashiki.

"Muzan retreated," Kagaya said softly. "That alone is unprecedented."

No one argued.

"He was wounded," Kagaya continued. "Multiple hearts. Multiple brains."

Sanemi let out a low whistle. "That bastard ran."

Giyu was absent — confined to bed.

Kagaya's gaze rested on Akira.

"You forced the King of Demons to flee," Kagaya said.

"And you did so while protecting civilians."

The room held its breath.

"There is no precedent for what you are," Kagaya continued.

"And yet… there is history."

The word Sun was never spoken.

It didn't need to be.

---

Cliffhanger

Kagaya closed his eyes briefly.

"Muzan will not forget this night," he said.

"And he will move."

Akira bowed. "So will we."

Kagaya smiled faintly.

"The pillars stand strong," he said.

"But the Sun has returned to the battlefield."

The Hashira felt it — not celebration.

But inevitability.

Outside, crows stirred.

And far away, in a place of shifting shadows,

a wounded demon king screamed in rage —

and began to plan.
