Chapter 45 - Chapter 45: Dominic's Commission

When Dominic heard Hunter mention someone being around him...

While investigating and tailing him in secret, the expression on his already grim face became even more terrifying.

However, after hearing Hunter out...

The look he gave Hunter became even colder instead.

"Kid!"

Dominic's knuckles cracked as he clenched his fists. "Don't get any ideas about my sister!"

Hunter looked at him in surprise, the corners of his mouth curling into an arc.

"Dominic, you don't actually think I want to use that person's information to get your permission to date Mia, do you?"

To Dominic at this moment, that smile looked as punchable as could be.

For a moment, Dominic even felt like punching this brat right in the face.

And with full force, at that.

Just to let him know how angry an older brother feels when he knows his sister is being pursued by a pig.

"Hmph!"

Dominic snorted coldly and didn't say anything more.

He already understood that this Chinese kid hadn't come to see him to get him to stop interfering with his relationship with Mia.

A few days ago, Dominic had been reluctant to let go of a deal he'd already negotiated.

He had Letty and the others go out and risk selling a batch of previously hijacked electronic products.

The result was exactly as Hunter had warned; they were nearly caught by the Los Angeles police.

While he couldn't be certain yet if he was truly being watched by that behemoth, the FBI, as this Chinese kid warned...

Dominic had indeed felt like he was being watched lately.

He had already begun a secret investigation, but if Hunter could provide more useful information himself, that would naturally be for the best.

Facing Dominic's silence, Hunter smiled slightly.

He knew he had convinced Dominic.

He immediately stated his conditions: "I know you have extensive connections, Dominic, so I'd like to ask you to help me investigate someone."

"Her name is Slate Brief, and she's a very famous Lockpicking expert."

"I need to know where she lives now. Of course, her company address would also work."

"Her?"

Dominic raised an eyebrow.

He hadn't heard of the name Slate Brief, but just as Hunter said...

Over the years, Dominic had indeed gained a certain level of fame in the Los Angeles underworld.

It wouldn't be too difficult for him to investigate someone's identity, especially with some general information.

Hunter simply nodded with a smile, not going into detail.

Then, without waiting for Dominic to press him...

The expression on his face became serious, and he proactively laid out the explanation he had prepared long ago.

"Dominic, when I wanted to see Mia a few days ago, I accidentally noticed someone constantly watching you guys from the shadows."

"After following him for a few days, I've confirmed his identity."

"His name is Brian. He's currently working at that parts shop at 14-5 Rocking Street."

"I followed him for several days and I'm very certain that Brian has been trying to get close to you guys."

"Furthermore, he has been in contact with several people of unknown origin."

"Those people were all in uniform and carrying weapons."

"So I suspect that even if this Brian isn't an FBI agent, he must be an undercover cop."

Having said this, Hunter paused slightly.

Looking at Dominic, whose brow was deeply furrowed, he pretended to say casually, "Dominic, I don't know why you've been targeted by the FBI or the Los Angeles police."

"But from the intelligence I've gathered while following Brian these past few days..."

"You're in trouble, and it's not small."

"For Mia's sake, don't say I didn't warn you."

"Whatever you were doing before, just stop doing it for a while!"

"It's best to leave Los Angeles for a bit and come back once the heat has died down!"

He said this, but Hunter actually knew very well.

Dominic and his crew had been going way too far over the past few years.

They specialized in hijacking high-value electronics, the kind they plundered on the California highways.

Most of them were products from high-tech companies in Silicon Valley or multinational corporations.

Doing it once or twice would be one thing!

But over the past few years, Dominic and his crew had robbed them over a dozen times in a row.

At a conservative estimate, the giant corporations that suffered losses because of them had lost at least tens of millions, if not a hundred million us dollars.

Offending capitalists in a country like America, where capital is king...

Hunter had always felt that if Dominic weren't the protagonist of the fast & furious series,

Let alone when the plot began, he wouldn't have lasted several years without getting into trouble.

In a real-world scenario, after their team successfully hijacked two or three times on the highway at most,

They would have been targeted and eventually taken down by the FBI for being too brazen.

As for the Los Angeles police, Hunter had been in this parallel world for over a month now.

He basically didn't believe in the law enforcement capabilities of the American police anymore.

Dominic fell silent, looking at Hunter expressionlessly.

Ever since he found out his sister had been 'picked' by this Chinese-descendant Kid,

Dominic had started investigating information about Hunter.

Therefore, he was very certain that Hunter wasn't an undercover for the FBI or the Los Angeles police.

Although his sister Mia had started to become a bit rebellious over the last few years,

Dominic knew she cared about his safety and the safety of those around him.

Moreover, Mia didn't actually know exactly what he was doing.

So, it was impossible for Mia to have told Hunter about Dominic leading a street racing gang and carrying out over a dozen highway heists.

This meant the Chinese-descendant Kid relied on his own meticulous mind.

Bit by bit, from countless clues, he had gradually approached the truth.

For a moment, Dominic suddenly felt a bit of appreciation for this kid.

"He's smart, and he doesn't look bad!"

"Even though he's asian, an orphan, and has no family background,"

"If he's truly good to Mia, it's not like I can't let them give it a try."

Once the thoughts in his heart changed, Dominic looked at Hunter again.

Though he remained expressionless, his gaze softened slightly.

After a long silence, he finally spoke again.

"The person you're looking for, I'll have someone ask around. I'll notify you once they're found."

The smile on Hunter's face immediately grew a few shades deeper.

He keenly sensed the change in Dominic's attitude; it was at least a bit less hostile than before.

He was just about to speak again when he was interrupted.

"You probably don't have a car yet. I heard Mia mention your motorcycle skills are quite good, so you should have a driver's license."

He got up and walked to a corner of the living room, then looked through a bunch of keys hanging on the wall for a while.

Finally, he took down a set of keys, turned back, and tossed them to Hunter.

Almost instinctively, Hunter raised his hand and caught the keys.

Only when the cold metallic feel of the keys registered did he react, quickly looking up at Dominic.

He saw Dominic standing with his arms crossed, looking down at him with what seemed like a trace of a smile on his lips.

"Payment in advance. The car is in the repair shop's warehouse."

"Kid, you help me with one thing too."

"Keep an eye on that guy named Brian. It'd be best if you could get some photos of him, especially photos of him in contact with the FBI or the Los Angeles police."

"Also, don't contact Mia for the time being."
