Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Black Car

Hunter finished packing his tools and was about to leave the Repair shop.

He didn't expect to be suddenly called back by Old Parker!

Seeing him walk over with a somewhat unsightly expression, Hunter's impression of this boss was passable.

So he wiped the engine oil off his hands with dirty gloves and asked as if casually, "Parker, what kind of side job?"

The Repair shop had Dominic's shares, and he and his subordinates often participated in underground racing competitions.

Dominic and his crew were even famous highway bandits in the California area.

In the past few years, Dominic had led Vince and his other subordinates to hijack many trucks.

Therefore, Hunter had heard some rumors that this Repair shop usually didn't fix vehicles of unknown origin.

Combining his experience from his previous life, he naturally knew that this was because Dominic's side was worried about leaks that could lead to them being targeted.

However, Old Parker also had to support his family and would usually take on some side jobs privately.

Old Parker was also a somewhat famous racer in the circle in his early years, using his past connections.

He could help some vehicles with illegal modifications, installing equipment that regular Repair shops were forbidden from installing.

At the same time, he would occasionally take black cars of unknown channels or origins and perform a dismantling-style disassembly.

Turning expensive whole vehicles into a pile of high-value parts.

Then breaking them down to completely "launder" the black car.

However, Hunter only knew a bit about these things from his predecessor's memories.

Old Parker's Repair shop used to have a few fixed veteran employees who followed him in taking side jobs.

For those who didn't have such a good relationship with Old Parker, especially an apprentice like Hunter who had been there for less than half a year.

Under normal circumstances, he wouldn't include them at all.

Hunter was also a bit surprised that he was suddenly called out this time.

Old Parker looked at Hunter, a young asian lad.

Previously, his impression of this asian lad wasn't deep; he only remembered that the other party was somewhat taciturn but also honest and capable.

For someone who didn't slack off or play tricks.

Old Parker still liked him very much!

So some time ago, when Dominic's sister Mia's car was sent in for maintenance.

Old Parker gave the job directly to Hunter, never expecting it would provoke Vince to find trouble.

As a result, he was pushed and hit his head; hearing it was a mild concussion, he had to rest for five days.

However, after this kid returned from his rest.

It was as if his brain had suddenly opened up!

Old Parker had also paid attention to Hunter before and found that his Repair skills and talent were not outstanding.

He relied entirely on hard work to be among the best of the apprentices recruited in the same batch.

But let alone comparing him to his own veteran brothers, even just those in the Repair shop who had been working for over a year.

Hunter's skills were far behind.

But in the last few days, Old Parker didn't know if this kid was being pushed out by others.

He also knew that everyone was secretly pushing Hunter out because of Vince.

Many people in the Repair shop threw the work assigned to them onto Hunter.

When Old Parker first discovered it, he would reprimand them.

But later he found that Hunter's Repair skills were like he had a cheat code.

At first, it was just some easy small jobs, but then it was things that an apprentice shouldn't be able to complete at all.

Today, Old Parker heard that when Hunter was assisting one of his veteran brothers with a car that hadn't been fixed for two days.

He actually offered his own opinion while helping.

As a result, in no time at all, it was actually fixed.

Afterward, that veteran brother of his quietly told Old Parker about this.

The other party also noticed that Hunter's Repair skills had improved by leaps and bounds, and might not be much worse than theirs.

Because of this, Old Parker realized how massive Hunter's progress was.

Seeing that Hunter was still waiting for his answer, Old Parker didn't lower his voice.

These past few days, because Hunter was willing to do any work besides chores.

So the efficiency here at the Repair shop was very high.

Generally, by five or six in the afternoon, everyone can basically finish work and leave.

Of course, Hunter was the exception.

The Repair shop was fully equipped with tools, and he was more than happy to stay a little longer.

Not only could he practice his Repair skills, but he could also pocket some spare parts to give his own vintage car a comprehensive maintenance upgrade.

Therefore, Old Parker wasn't worried about others overhearing.

"Don't ask what the job is!"

"With your skills, it won't be very difficult to complete."

"It will take a few hours of your time, but the pay is good."

Seeing that he was unwilling to say more, Hunter dropped the idea of asking further.

He happened to be short on money lately, so he asked, "Alright, I happen to be short on money lately."

"How much is the pay?"

Old Parker smiled, suddenly finding himself admiring this asian young man in front of him.

"Your share is five hundred. If you do it well, I'll come to you again next time there's a job like this."

Hunter raised an eyebrow; his weekly salary at this Repair shop was five hundred and eighty us dollars.

This wage was firmly at the bottom of the ladder.

Because of that, the five hundred us dollars in side income seemed very attractive.

He thought to himself that this was his first time taking a private job, and his Repair skill was just a bit of experience away from reaching Lv3.

Even though he knew Old Parker was definitely taking the lion's share, Hunter nodded and agreed.

"Fine! I'll do it!"

Seeing him agree, Old Parker immediately smiled and patted him on the arm.

Then, he took out a piece of paper and a key from his pocket.

"I know you have a motorcycle; go to the place on the address."

"Do the work there according to the requirements. Once finished, leave the key at the designated spot and you can go."

Hunter took the key and the paper, glanced at it, and found it was over twenty kilometers away, near the port.

He didn't waste any words, nodded, grabbed a set of tools, and left.

Speeding all the way, he soon arrived at his destination.

Hunter found that it was indeed near the port area, an inconspicuous old warehouse.

He took out the key to open it, and upon entering, found there was no one inside.

The warehouse was nearly two hundred square meters in size, with something in the center covered by a tarp.

Judging by the silhouette, it should be a car, and likely a sports car.

There was no helping it; it was too low-slung; anyone who wasn't blind could recognize it.

Next to the tarp, there was also a chair with what appeared to be some items on it.

Hunter walked up quickly and picked them up, only to find the instructions required him to finish dismantling the main components of the car before midnight.

Then, before leaving, he was to take the warehouse key—

—and throw it in through a high window on the side of the warehouse that had been left slightly ajar.

"Whoa, a big job right off the bat!"

"Five hundred us dollars, I'm getting a raw deal here!"

Although he complained, Hunter's hands didn't stop.

After locking the warehouse door from the inside as required,

Hunter walked toward the sports car covered by the tarp, which he suspected was a 'black car'!
