[Sisters], [Master–Servant], [Mother–Daughter]
Kurose Akira stared at the three traits, falling into a difficult dilemma.
The [Master–Servant] trait held no real value to him. He had no desire for a hierarchy of masters and servants within his guild—it went directly against how he envisioned his organization. That option was eliminated immediately.
That left [Sisters] and [Mother–Daughter], and those two gave him pause.
From what he knew of the elf race—information he had learned from Liu Xue—elves were beings born from the World Tree of the elves. Their "mother" was the Elf Mother Tree itself. From a conceptual standpoint, all elves could be considered sisters.
Then a thought struck him.
If he chose a mother–daughter elf combination… could he possibly summon the Elf Mother Tree itself?
The answer was no.
Only entities that needed something—those who wished to grow stronger or earn money with the help of a guild—could become recruitable targets.
In other words, figures such as the Elf Queen, the King of the Starbound Kingdom, or the Pontiff of the Radiant Church could never become adventurers. They lacked the need, and therefore could never enter a player's recruitment pool.
That said, there were rare exceptions.
Loserine, for example.
She was undead, yet driven by an intense will to be reborn and complete unfinished business. That overwhelming desire had allowed her to appear in the recruitment pool.
But those were the game's recruitment rules.
Did they also apply to trait-based recruitment like this?
Akira couldn't be completely certain—but the probability was high.
Unless… there truly was no suitable target in the pool?
His thoughts spun endlessly as he continued weighing the options.
If the Elf Mother Tree couldn't be recruited, then did combining [Mother–Daughter] with [Elf] simply create a dead trait?
Not necessarily.
After all, the reason Liu Xue had gone to the library in the first place was because of an elf mother imprisoned by the elven race.
Akira rubbed his brow.
If he ended up recruiting an elf mother who was still nursing a child, then his expectation of getting two combat units from a single recruitment would completely fall apart.
The [Mother–Daughter] trait might hold surprises… but [Sisters] was clearly the safer, more stable choice.
Damn these traits. Why did they have to be so hard to choose?!
After careful deliberation, he finally made his decision.
[Sisters].
"All right. Let's begin."
Akira took a deep breath and pulled out the green recruitment scroll.
He tossed it into the air.
In an instant, brilliant light erupted throughout the guild hall, sparkling like a sky full of stars. His vision was immediately filled by eight trait options.
[Elf][Pockmarked Face][Chef][Headless][Cunning][Hairless][Great-Grandmother][Lost Ideals]
Akira stared at the eight traits. Aside from the locked-in [Elf] trait, the rest were… abstract, to say the least.
He inhaled deeply.
He still had fourteen trait refreshes remaining.
He selected [Pockmarked Face], [Hairless], and [Lost Ideals] for replacement.
"Refresh!"
[Pufferfish][Extreme Sports Enthusiast][Elemental Pure Body]
"[Elemental Pure Body]?"
Akira frowned slightly. After a brief moment of thought, he decided to keep that one and refresh the remaining trash traits.
[Tattoo Addict][Cute and Adorable][Soul Symbiosis]
"[Soul Symbiosis]?"
The moment Akira saw this trait, he made his decision.
"This one."
[Your selection: Soul-Symbiotic Greed Elf Sisters with Elemental Pure Bodies!][Recruiting suitable adventurers…]
As the system prompt faded, dazzling light flooded every corner of the guild.
Two graceful silhouettes stepped out from within the glow, their presence instantly transforming the atmosphere of the hall.
They bowed in unison.
"High Elves Beyafli and Beyaflo report to the Guildmaster!"
"Oh~?"
Akira carefully examined his newly recruited elves.
They looked nearly identical—pale yellow hair tied into single ponytails, skin as fair as jade, slender and elegant figures that radiated youthful vitality.
The only difference lay in their eyes.
Beyafli's pupils burned a fiery crimson, like dancing flames.Beyaflo's eyes were a calm, watery blue, serene as a clear lake.
It seemed to reflect their respective personalities.
Compared to Beyafli, Beyaflo appeared far more shy at first meeting, her gaze wandering as she avoided direct eye contact with Akira.
At the same time, their status panels unfolded before his eyes.
[Beyafli (Epic)]Level: 10 (0/2000)Race: ElfStrength: 120 / Agility: 110 / Mana: 180 / Vitality: 110Growth: 10 (Gains +10 to all attributes per level)
Skills: (Expand)
Traits: [Greed] [Elf] [Soul Symbiosis] [Elemental Pure Body] [Sisters]
[Greed]: Desire intensifies uncontrollably! Emotions toward possessed targets reach extremes!Provides 100% combat power amplification to the "Desire Target"!(Current Desire Targets: 2!)
[Elf]: Blessed by the Elf Mother Tree.Mana regeneration speed +100%, elemental magic power +50%.
[Soul Symbiosis]: All senses, mana, and souls are fully shared between them, forming an inseparable symbiotic existence.
[Elemental Pure Body]: Absolute mastery over a single elemental magic type, with complete immunity to that element.
[Sisters]: Elf sisters.
Beyaflo's panel was identical aside from minor stat differences.
The only thing that puzzled Akira was the line: Current Desire Targets: 2.
Besides each other, did they share another Greed target?
From what he could tell, that target wasn't him—he hadn't felt any combat power amplification from the [Greed] trait.
Akira smiled.
"Welcome to my guild, elf adventurers."
No sooner had he finished speaking than Beyafli stepped forward eagerly.
"Guildmaster, please grant us an adventure quest!"
Her tone was urgent, filled with intense desire and fixation on completing missions.
"Y-Yes!"Even the shy Beyaflo pleaded softly,"Guildmaster, please… give us a quest~"
Akira immediately understood.
They were facing difficulties—likely in dire need of money or power.
"Alright."
He nodded and assigned them a non-combat task.
Given their current levels, they weren't yet suitable for E-rank combat missions. A non-combat quest was the right choice.
"A pearl collection mission?"
After briefly reviewing the task details, Beyafli nodded resolutely.
"Please rest assured, Guildmaster! We will complete it!"
The sisters quickly stepped into the teleportation array and departed for the mission location.
Watching their enthusiasm, Akira felt a small sense of satisfaction.
This wasn't bad.
Unlike Ivsha—ever since resolving the church crisis, her mind had been filled with thoughts of how to squeeze his life-force magic dry.
"Next…"
After the elf sisters left, Akira took out another item.
It was a blue, diamond-shaped fragment, glowing faintly with azure light.
"Why does the Sage Soul look like this?"
He stared at it, puzzled.
[Sage Soul (Epic): A precious relic containing the wisdom of a Sage. Upon activation, grants three high-tier magic scrolls and one clue left behind by the Sage.]
"High-tier magic scrolls? A Sage's clue?"
Curiosity surged.
Akira chose to activate it.
[Activation successful!]
[Obtained Magic Scrolls: Meteorfall (High-tier), Water Element Summoning (High-tier), Soul Shatter (High-tier)]
[Sage's Clue: The last place he appeared was the Land of the Fallen Dragon. (Recommended Level: 40)]
Akira frowned slightly.
The clue was… vague.
Was it merely telling him the Sage's last known location? Or did it hide deeper implications?
Given that dragons were typically apex beings in game settings, Akira decided that approaching such a place at his current stage would be unwise.
"Mr. Kurose~"
Ivsha walked over, curiosity in her eyes.
"Were those two just now new guild members?"
"Yes," Akira nodded. "Elf sisters. Once they're back from their mission, you can all get acquainted."
"Okay~"
She paused, then suddenly remembered something important.
"Oh! Mr. Kurose—Loserine is acting strange. I can't quite understand her current state. Could you take a look?"
"Loserine?"
Akira immediately stood and headed toward her.
Loserine was seated cross-legged in the guild's training room—but her condition was clearly abnormal.
A faint blue glow enveloped her entire body, and the soul-light wings on her back shone brilliantly.
"What is this…?"
The moment Akira stepped closer, a system prompt appeared.
[Loserine's Favorability has reached 100! Prerequisite completed! Character Quest unlocked!]
[Knight's Daily Training!][Recommended Level: 10]
[Quest Description: Loserine wishes for someone to accompany her in her daily knight training (three times)…]
[Quest Objective: Cooperate with Loserine's knight training!]
[Quest Reward: Loserine's Ascension Material (Grants one new trait)]
"Oh?"
A spark of interest flashed through Akira's eyes.
Loserine's character quest seemed… simple. Just accompanying her in daily knight training?
Then why was its recommended level higher than Ivsha's character quest?
