Chapter 17 - Chapter 17 The History of Magic Terrifies Professor Binns

After lunch break, the Hufflepuff students gradually emerged from their common room, preparing to attend their afternoon History of Magic Class.

Charlie stretched, then walked towards the classroom with Ernie and Justin.

"History of Magic, huh? I heard it's the most boring class," Justin said with a yawn.

Charlie, however, felt a sense of anticipation.

He had always wanted to deeply understand the history of the Wizarding World; after all, as a transmigrator, his knowledge of this world was still too limited.

Using history class to supplement his knowledge seemed like a good choice.

"I actually really want to listen to History of Magic," Charlie said.

"We ought to understand the world we live in, right?"

"You're this enthusiastic?" Ernie was surprised. "I thought you'd just keep sleeping."

"Not this time, I'm going to listen carefully."

Charlie said seriously, even if he wasn't trying to earn tyrant points, he still needed to pay close attention in this class.

Arriving at the History of Magic classroom, there weren't many people inside, and everyone seemed a bit sluggish.

It had to be said that Hogwarts' curriculum was truly relaxed, with only two or three classes a day.

There was plenty of free time for students to choose their activities; some top students would spend their free time in the library.

But Charlie couldn't; he was allergic to the library and couldn't go there.

Charlie found a seat in the front row, took out his quill and parchment, and prepared to listen attentively.

The class bell rang, and a semi-transparent figure floated into the classroom.

It was Professor Binns, Hogwarts' only ghost teacher.

He looked ancient, with a white beard and dressed in old-fashioned Wizard robes.

"Good day, everyone, I am Professor Binns," he said in an extremely monotonous voice.

"Today we will be studying the foundational chapters of History of Magic."

Charlie perked up, ready to listen carefully.

"First, let us learn about the story of Morick the Maleficent," Professor Binns began to narrate.

"Morick lived in the Middle Ages, infamous for his abuse of magic..."

Professor Binns' voice was like the static from an old radio, deadly monotonous.

His tone had no fluctuations, like a middle school Principal reading from a speech.

Charlie tried hard to concentrate, but found it much harder than he imagined.

Professor Binns' teaching style was truly too rigid, completely devoid of any passionate or vivid descriptions.

In less than ten minutes, Charlie began to feel sleepiness creeping in.

He secretly glanced around and saw that many of his classmates were already dozing off.

"Next is the tale of Uric the Oddball," Professor Binns continued in that hypnotic tone.

"Uric was known for his peculiar magical experiments..."

Charlie's eyelids began to droop.

This wasn't a class; it was practically a hypnosis session!

"No, I'm going to fall asleep if this continues," Charlie thought.

No wonder History of Magic was widely considered the most boring class.

Finally, Charlie couldn't take it anymore.

He raised his hand and said loudly, "Professor!"

Professor Binns stopped speaking, and the entire classroom instantly fell silent.

All the dozing students were startled awake by the sudden sound and turned to look at Charlie.

"Uh... is there a question, student?"

Professor Binns was clearly surprised; it had been a long time since a student had voluntarily asked a question.

"Professor, could you tell us something more exciting?" Charlie said directly.

Whispers broke out in the classroom; the students were shocked by Charlie's bold action.

Ernie whispered, "Charlie, are you crazy?"

Justin's eyes were also wide: "That's a Professor, even if he's a ghost, he's still a Professor."

Charlie ignored them.

Professor Binns floated in mid-air, looking at Charlie with his ancient eyes:

"Exciting content? What do you want to hear?"

Charlie said without hesitation, "Tell us about Lord Voldemort!"

As soon as these words left his mouth, the entire classroom instantly plunged into a deathly silence.

All the students gasped, some even sliding off their chairs in fright.

"Oh my goodness!"

"What did he just say?"

"He said that name!"

The students' faces turned pale, and some even began to tremble.

Even Professor Binns, the ghost, showed an expression of fear; his semi-transparent body began to tremble violently, and his form appeared much dimmer than usual.

"No... don't say that name!" Professor Binns' voice was trembling.

Charlie was a bit bewildered.

He just wanted to learn about Lord Voldemort's history; why was everyone reacting so strongly?

Charlie had long wanted to ask about Lord Voldemort; although the name was infamous in his previous life, he didn't know what Lord Voldemort had actually done.

After coming to Hogwarts, people around him only knew that he was a dark Wizard who killed many people and was eventually killed by Harry Potter.

But if you asked for specific details, no one knew.

"Professor, I just want to understand history..."

Charlie tried to explain.

"No, absolutely not!" Professor Binns' form grew dimmer and dimmer, looking like he could dissipate at any moment.

A Gryffindor student shouted:

"Oh no! Professor Binns is about to dissipate from fright! Go quickly to the office and get Professor McGonagall!"

Several students immediately rushed out of the classroom to seek help.

"Congratulations, Your Majesty, for frightening a teacher. tyrant points +5."

The system's voice rang in Charlie's mind, making him even more confused.

"No, I really didn't mean to earn tyrant points!"

Soon, Professor McGonagall arrived at the History of Magic classroom.

She quickly walked to the podium and immediately comforted Professor Binns.

Professor Binns looked much better, at least his body was more solid, but the class time was almost over.

After understanding the situation, Professor McGonagall glared at Charlie, deducted two points from Hufflepuff, and then stomped off, fuming.

"Honestly..." she muttered as she walked.

"I'm constantly getting angry; if I stay at Hogwarts much longer, I'll lose years off my life."

The students gradually left the classroom, many giving Charlie strange looks as they passed him.

Evening quickly arrived, and students gradually came to the Great Hall for dinner.

As Charlie sat down at the Hufflepuff long table, he saw the Weasley Twins approaching with Harry, Ron, and Hermione.

"Charlie!" Fred excitedly clapped him on the shoulder.

"You're a genius!"

"Yeah, how did you even think of scaring Professor Binns in History of Magic Class?" George also gave a thumbs-up.

Charlie's face darkened: "I really didn't mean to..."

Harry watched Charlie quietly from the side, his feelings somewhat complex.

He had heard that Charlie had turned a stick into a needle in the first class that morning; even Hermione, the best in their Gryffindor, had only managed to turn hers into a needle-tip.

In the afternoon, he had nearly scared a Professor to death.

Compared to Charlie, he, the so-called savior, seemed quite ordinary.

However, Harry wasn't jealous of Charlie; he felt that he was doing well now, able to eat enough, dress warmly, and have so many friends, which made him very happy.

"Charlie, your Transfiguration is really amazing," Harry said sincerely.

"It's alright, maybe it's just natural talent," Charlie replied modestly.

Just then, Hermione suddenly spoke, her tone serious, with clear disapproval:

"Charlie, you shouldn't scare Professors like that; it's wrong."

"You should use your talent for studying."

The atmosphere immediately became awkward.

Fred and George exchanged glances, and Harry didn't know what to say either.

Charlie put down the chicken leg in his hand and looked at Hermione:

"I was just asking a question; who knew Professor Binns was so easily scared?"

"You know that name shouldn't be said casually!" Hermione's voice rose.

"But I don't know why it can't be said," Charlie spread his hands. "I'm Muggle-born, so I don't know much about the taboos of the Wizarding World."

Hermione was momentarily stumped; she was also Muggle-born, but she had learned these common facts through books long ago.

"Then you should have found out first before asking the question!" Hermione was somewhat exasperated.

"Found out what?" Charlie retorted.

"I asked because I wanted to understand history."

Hermione opened her mouth but found she had nothing to say.

Indeed, if he didn't know the background, Charlie's actions were just normal questioning.

"Forget it, I'm not talking to you anymore," Hermione turned and walked away, huffing.

Ron watched Hermione's retreating back, then leaned closer to Charlie and whispered:

"Don't mind her, she's just like that, always thinking she knows everything."

"Sometimes it's really annoying."
