The seven Elementary Profound Grayscale Wolves seemed to act like the vanguard as they rushed straight towards Huang Shi once again, acting as if their comrades had not just died a few moments ago and had mostly been burned off the face of the planet.
Damn… Here we go!
This time, three of the Grayscale Wolves attacked him at the same time. One of them aimed for his stomach, one of them aimed for his throat, and the other aimed for his legs. For some reason, Huang Shi felt like he didn't have the luxury of taking his time and picking the wolves off one by one; he wanted to get rid of the cannon fodder as quickly as possible.
His body started to burn with powerful Sunfyre flames as his golden eyes shimmered with ferocity. He raised his right arm and started to once again concentrate his Sunfyre flames, trying his best to shape them into objects used for attack.
Shit… this is a lot harder than I thought.
Huang Shi started to grimace as he quickly realized that making any sort of complicated object using his Sunfyre was clearly above his limits at the moment, as he didn't seem to have sufficient control over his spiritual energy.
Seeing that the three Grayscale Wolves were already right next to him, he quickly changed his tactics. Instead, he raised his right fist, burning with Sunfyre, and punched it straight into the ground in front of him.
BOOM!
A massive explosion once again rocked the surroundings as dust and flames flew everywhere, making a makeshift smokescreen. Of course, Huang Shi didn't waste this opportunity as he quickly rushed towards the Grayscale Wolf closest to him—the one that was currently aiming to take a big bite of his stomach.
Without any hesitation, Huang Shi punched straight at its face. His fist was glowing with golden flames, and the wolf clearly didn't know what hit him. The moment the punch landed, its entire head exploded into flames and blood.
One.
Huang Shi didn't hesitate; he didn't have time to hesitate as he quickly raised his right foot and kicked it right at the wolf that was currently aiming for his throat.
BOOM!
His foot instantly broke through the wolf's defenses, shattering its jaw in the process before the beast was instantly burned in the fury of Sunfyre.
Two.
Once again, it was clear that taking on two Grayscale Wolves at the same time was his limit. The one remaining wolf that had chosen to aim for his legs quickly found its target, trying its best to bite off one of his legs.
FUCK!
It failed, of course. The Cinderveil Robes were a Tier 2 defensive artifact; unless it was a spiritual beast at the Nascent Profound Realm, it was very hard for opponents of this level to cause him to draw blood. The blunt impact, of course, was a different story.
Move, move, move!
Huang Shi forced himself to move, raising his left fist and making it shine with Sunfyre before instantly smashing it downward on the wolf that currently had its mouth stuck on his foot.
BOOM!
The massive, two-meter Grayscale Wolf had its spine broken in half before being burned by the Sunfyre into oblivion in screams of agony.
Three.
Huang Shi looked toward the remaining Grayscale Wolves, counting them quickly. Only six remained out of the original nine, with only four left at the Elementary Profound Realm.
He breathed heavily, his chest heaving as he focused. It was clear that this first real battle was much more difficult than he had imagined; life-and-death combat was nothing like simple training.
Shit... I should have thought this through more. I should have picked a solitary spiritual beast to start with instead of jumping into a pack's den.
Thankfully, there was a brief respite. The four remaining Elementary Profound wolves started to back off with their tails tucked. Despite the growls from their superiors, they were clearly terrified; seeing their pack mates turned to ash had broken their spirit.
Good... I need a bit of time to recover anyway.
Huang Shi calmed his breathing and circulated the Nine Sun Immortal Codex. An invisible vortex formed around him, drawing in spiritual energy and converting it into potent Sunfyre Qi. He felt his reserves fill, the warmth numbing the aches in his limbs.
Of course, good things never lasted long in the cultivation world. The two Nascent Profound Grayscale Wolves started to snarl in absolute anger at the insubordination of their underlings. They didn't care about the fear of the pack; they only cared about the fact that someone had dared to intrude in their territory and had caused a ruckus.
Before long, the two Nascent Profound Realm Grayscale Wolves started to walk forward with slow, heavy steps. They left the trembling, lower-level wolves behind in the shadows of the trees. It seemed that even these Alphas had noticed that sending spiritual beasts at the Elementary Profound Realm was a waste of life.
I guess even beasts know how to think and learn from their mistakes...
Huang Shi stared at the approaching behemoths. Each step they took caused the soft, moist ground to sink. Both of them emanated powerful spiritual energy auras that were so heavy and thick they actually caused the air to vibrate.
The pressure was like a physical weight pressing down on his shoulders, causing his body to tremble involuntarily. These were not the weak scouts he had just fought; these were true Nascent Profound Realm spiritual beasts.
WHOOSH!
Surprisingly, it wasn't the two Alpha Grayscale Wolves that attacked first. They had expected the human to cower or flee, but Huang Shi did the opposite.
Instead, it was Huang Shi who took the initiative. He burst forward, his feet slamming into the ground as he rushed straight at the two giant wolves. His entire body burned with powerful golden flames, trailing a streak of fire behind him and cutting through the humid air like a falling meteor.
You bastards keep on attacking me first. Let's see how you like being on the other end of the stick for once!
