It seemed that cancelling a manifestation was not that simple.
Looking at the spot to his right where Alice had vanished, Hiro fell into brief thought.
An unfamiliar place surfaced in his mind.
The Otherworld-Yomotsu Hirasaka.
Since he had never experienced Pandora's Dark Offering, and since Grayfia had also become a Campione through his own methods, she had never been to the Otherworld either.
He was, admittedly, a little curious about that mystical domain filled with so-called "idealism."
But for now, he still lacked the means to access it.
Speaking of which.
There was an authentic mythological goddess sitting right beside him.
Hiro turned his head and looked at the silent blonde girl on his left, who was staring out the car window.
"Amaterasu, did you notice how Alice left just now?"
"The aura of the Otherworld."
Her voice was clear and cold.
Her gaze never shifted from the window.
So this shut-in had been locked away for thousands of years and finally came outside?
Looking at her smooth blonde hair, Hiro shook his head.
The private Jonan Academy attended by Godo Kusanagi, his sister, and Mariya Yuri was located in the northern Tokyo Metropolitan Area, not far from Hiro's residence in the High School DxD world-Saitama Prefecture.
Originally, Hiro had wanted to run straight into Seishuuin Ena the moment he landed, seize the sword she carried, and use it as a guide to Susanoo's thatched hut.
Reality, however, was uncooperative.
Not only did Amaterasu, the Great Goddess herself, admit that she lacked the means to reach the Otherworld, but he also failed to encounter Seishuuin Ena.
So, in this unfamiliar land, Hiro had no choice but to take a small detour.
First, find Mariya Yuri-the famous Hime Miko of Kanto.
Then, through her, find Seishuuin Ena.
"Amaterasu."
Noticing the driver's surprised expression in the front seat, Hiro paused.
After subtly adjusting the driver's thoughts, he turned back to the blonde girl beside him.
"Your name is a little too eye-catching in this country. Let's change it. How about 'Ama-chan'? Or maybe 'Rasu-chan'?"
Amaterasu remained silent.
Grayfia spoke instead. "With all due respect, Hiro-sama, neither of those names seems appropriate for Amaterasu-sama."
What can I say?
I'm bad at naming things.
I'm helpless too.
Feeling the gazes coming from both sides, Hiro shrugged.
"In that case, Grayfia, I'll leave naming Amaterasu to you."
"..."
Grayfia fell silent for a moment. She looked toward the blonde girl and spoke hesitantly.
"Since it is Hiro-sama's command, then-"
Before she could finish, the person being discussed interrupted.
"Yuri. That was the child's original name."
Yuri?
That didn't quite match his memory.
Probably a translation issue.
Hiro thought for a moment after hearing the suggestion.
Ignoring Grayfia's subtle expression, he made the decision.
"Then, until Amaterasu's time limit expires and I send her back to mythology, we'll use that name."
"Understood, Hiro-sama."
From Tokyo International Airport to the northern Tokyo Metropolitan Area, the distance wasn't far.
But due to real-world traffic, it still took over an hour.
Renting a car in Japan wasn't something everyone could afford.
Especially in the middle of the night.
"No trace of yÅkai. Strange."
YÅkai?
Do those even exist in the Campione world?
Hiro glanced at her, puzzled, but didn't think much of it, attributing it to the changes of time.
After staying overnight at a high-end hotel, the next morning, one human, half a god, and one devil traveled together to the shrine where Mariya Yuri resided.
Since it was Spring Break, Hiro wasn't worried about failing to find her.
"Yuri, we're about to meet the shrine maiden who serves you. Any thoughts?"
Using Observation Haki to sense the two women and one man within the shrine grounds, Hiro smiled lightly as he spoke.
Amaterasu looked up, stared for a moment, then shook her head calmly.
"She is not my shrine maiden."
The original story never specified which god Yuri served.
Since Amaterasu said so, it seemed his guess had been wrong.
Within minutes, after passing through the red torii at the entrance, a girl dressed in conservative shrine maiden robes and a scruffy middle-aged man with a small ponytail came into view.
Seeing strangers approach, Mariya Yuri temporarily set Amakusa Touma aside and walked toward the trio.
"Welcome."
But before she had taken two steps, the lively light in her eyes abruptly vanished.
Like a puppet pulled by invisible strings, only her lips moved.
"Slew the Heretic God of Love, Cupid. The Phoenician God-King, Melqart. The Maou who reigns over the land..."
"Oh?"
Hiro glanced at the two women beside him, interest flickering across his face.
He didn't stop Mariya Yuri's spiritual vision.
If needed, he could interrupt her later.
Mariya Yuri's gaze shifted left, passing Grayfia on the far right, and settled on the blonde girl in the center.
"The daughter of Izanagi, one of the Three Noble Children who governs Takamagahara-Amaterasu Åmikami."
Standing behind Amaterasu, Amakusa Touma's face turned pale.
Amaterasu Åmikami had descended without anyone knowing.
And she had even been slain by a blonde, blue-eyed foreigner.
Unaware of the truth, Amakusa Touma subconsciously mistook Yuri for a foreigner who had killed Amaterasu-rather than the goddess herself.
After all, even Erica couldn't perceive a god's true form at close range.
Let alone him.
"The son of Izanagi, the brother of Amaterasu Åmikami, the slayer of the Eight-Headed White Serpent-Susanoo-no-Mikoto."
Because he wasn't watching Mariya Yuri's gaze closely, Amakusa Touma attributed all of these "achievements" to Grayfia alone.
The shock on his face slowly turned into confusion.
If the shrine maiden performing the vision weren't Mariya Yuri, he might have dismissed it as nonsense.
But Susanoo-no-Mikoto?
Hadn't that Great One been living in seclusion in the Otherworld for ages?
How could a Maou who killed him suddenly appear?
"The Great-"
"Cough. Cough."
Seeing Mariya Yuri heading toward the same fate as Lucrezia Zora, Hiro coughed lightly, snapping her out of it.
Mariya Yuri jolted back to her senses, shock flashing through her eyes.
Before she could say anything, her eyes rolled back and she collapsed.
"What's wrong?"
"You look very confused, Amakusa Touma."
Catching Mariya Yuri as she fell, Hiro looked toward the scruffy middle-aged man several meters away.
His tone carried clear amusement.
Sudden death.
