"Ding! Third-Tier luck seizure complete. Congratulations to the host for obtaining: Disposable Item - Gáe Bolg."
A weapon of causality.
But it was still affected by the opponent's luck value, right?
Shirou's blanket king could still die once his luck dropped low enough. And with Rin Tohsaka as his master, that luck was even boosted by one.
So overall, it wasn't exactly a trump card.
Still, it worked well as a surprise against enemies with low luck. And it was perfect for bullying weaker opponents.
After storing the seventh puppet, Freed Sellzen, into Dead March, and returning Yatsufusa to the system space, Hiro glanced at the blood-red spear that had appeared in the item bar.
He thought it over briefly.
After erasing the traces left behind with magic, he headed back while pulling out his phone to check the time.
"Five fifty-five and three seconds. Still a bit early to go back."
Unlike China, dinner time here was usually around seven or later.
For some office workers, dinner and late-night snacks were practically the same meal.
The Kirigaya-Nanamiya household wasn't that extreme, but dinner was still usually around eight.
"Hmm."
His gaze swept over the night market stalls slowly being set up in the distance. He remembered the two Holy Sword users whose whereabouts were still unknown.
His steps shifted direction.
He headed toward the dilapidated church on the outskirts of Saitama Prefecture.
"Come to think of it, I forgot to ask Freed about Galileo Galilei's location."
Maybe it was because he hadn't paid much attention to Kiba Yuuto's affairs. It wasn't until after killing Freed and walking for a while that the thought surfaced.
Freed was already dead.
Even if his body was still being controlled as a puppet, his soul and memories clearly weren't under Hiro's control. At least, according to the system's setting.
Shaking his head, he brushed aside the faint sense of guilt.
About half an hour later, the dilapidated church Asia had cleaned that morning came into view.
"Xenovia, do you think we can complete the mission this time and safely return to the Church?"
"I want to say yes, but facing a fallen angel cadre famous even in biblical mythology... I really don't have that confidence."
Before he even saw them, his hearing had already picked up their conversation.
At the edge of his vision, a lead-gray "3" and a silver-white "4" hovered quietly not far ahead.
Tap. Tap.
Since he hadn't bothered to hide his footsteps, Xenovia and Irina quickly noticed someone approaching.
"Who's there?"
A vigilant female voice rang out, and Hiro slowed his steps slightly.
"A passing, enthusiastic citizen."
Answering casually, he stepped through the church entrance where the door panel was long gone.
Before the statue of the Virgin Mary that Asia had cleaned earlier, the two Holy Sword users came into view. They had removed their robes and were wearing black, tight-fitting outfits that outlined their figures clearly.
Still, judging by how both of them reached for the sword hilts behind them, they were clearly wary of this so-called "enthusiastic citizen."
"Enthusiastic citizen-san?"
Irina, her chestnut ponytail swaying slightly, tilted her head with a puzzled look.
"Thank you for your kindness, but we haven't encountered any difficulties."
Perhaps sensing the purely human aura on him, their guarded expressions eased a little. The hands on their sword hilts relaxed as well.
"That's right."
Beside her, Xenovia nodded.
"It's already late, and this church is in a remote area. Enthusiastic citizen-san should leave soon, just in case something happens."
Are they really treating me as an enthusiastic citizen... or is this some kind of subconscious response?
Watching how their vigilance faded almost entirely after his casual reply, Hiro wasn't sure what expression he should be wearing.
He opened his mouth, about to speak-
And then, out of the corner of his eye, he noticed something.
On the system map in the lower-right corner of his vision, a golden "6" appeared several hundred meters behind him.
There was no movement trajectory.
In the blink of an eye, that "6" appeared not far behind him, as if it had come from nowhere. Most likely teleportation or some kind of transfer ability.
Hmm?
Hiro raised an eyebrow.
Under the slightly puzzled gazes of the two girls, he turned around and looked up through the church doorway.
The next instant, a chaotic, multicolored sky spread out, covering an area several thousand meters wide with the church at its center.
Flap.
Suspended high in the distant sky, a pale man unfurled ten pairs of black wings.
As he looked down at Xenovia and Irina, disappointment was written plainly across his face.
"What's this? I thought Michael would send some high-ranking angels to hunt me down. I didn't expect just two small-fry Holy Sword users. How disappointing."
As for the closer area-
Hiro, a mere human with no divine aura, neither devil nor angel, god nor youkai nor Buddha, didn't even earn Kokabiel a second glance.
The moment the barrier deployed, Xenovia and Irina felt that overwhelming, violent aura press down on them.
Without hesitation, they gripped their Holy Swords and stepped in front of Hiro, shielding this "enthusiastic citizen" behind them.
"A ten-winged fallen angel!"
"A cadre of the God's Child Watchers... Kokabiel!"
Cold sweat slid down their temples as they took on the stance of facing a deadly enemy.
Even so, Xenovia still spoke up to reassure him.
"Stay behind us. Don't move around. No matter what happens, we will protect the believers of God."
So that's why they're being so kind.
They think I'm a believer.
Hiro glanced at the two girls standing in front of him.
Seeing how proactive they were, he abandoned the idea of using the Red Dragon Emperor's Gauntlet for now. He simply stood behind them and observed in silence.
If they couldn't hold on any longer, he would step in.
After all-
Their intentions were good.
