"Ow, that hurt!" Mikaela cried out.
Maeve brushed through Mikaela's hair as gently and as quickly as she could possibly be. He was already running late for school, and his strands were still all over the place.
"Nana, that hurt!" Mikaela cried again, shielding away the brittle hairbrush with his palms.
Maeve sighed, taking his hands away from his head so she could get his hair done on time, "I'm so sorry baby, but I can't have you looking like some street urchin. Especially not during your first week in elementary school. You need to be presentable enough to make a long-lasting impression."
"It wouldn't matter if I'm late!"
"Gosh, you're right, but your hair is still a darn mess. Well, nothing hairspray can't fix…" Maeve moved over to the mirror stand, accessing the clutter that regularly greeted her in the morning despite her constant organizing.
