I didn't wake up to sunlight. I woke up to a vibration.
At first, I thought it was Ethan's phone. He always wakes before me. Always moves quietly. Always leaves the bedroom before I'm fully conscious.
But this wasn't a single vibration. It was continuous and relentless like something knocking from inside the mattress.
I opened my eyes slowly. The room was still dim, curtains half-drawn. My head felt heavy in that soft, disoriented way that follows a deep night's sleep.
The night before had ended steadily, grounded, and certain. But this did not feel like certainty. My phone was on the nightstand. The screen was lit, and notifications were stacked so tightly they blurred.
Missed calls. Mentions. Tags. Direct messages. News alerts.
And one phrase repeated across nearly every notification banner:
"Have you seen this?"
