Chapter 35 - Chapter 35: Gathering Shadows

Chapter 35: Gathering Shadows

In the ninja school's combat evaluations, he had overwhelmed the prodigy Namikaze Minato, seizing the title of Chief Student in a manner that bordered on absolute domination.

The name 'Shinra' spread through Konoha like wildfire overnight. No one had anticipated it—this previously unknown orphan boy suddenly blazing into the spotlight, becoming the darkest, brightest horse of the year.

His heartfelt declaration of loyalty further endeared him to many. Some were already whispering that Shinra and Namikaze Minato were the twin pillars upon which Konoha's future would be built—the village's greatest hope.

Yet, amidst the praise, darker murmurs also swirled. Some lamented his perceived arrogance, his lack of restraint. He had deliberately, publicly, crippled Uchiha Shota, a boy who had awakened his Sharingan even earlier than Masaki Uchiha. Shota was no minor figure—he was the son of Uchiha Kento, deputy captain of the Uchiha Police Force.

And before that, he'd put Masaki Uchiha, the clan patriarch's own son, in the hospital, preventing him from even participating in the crucial exams.

A young man might be fiery and vigorous, but such actions invited the calamity of a blood feud.

More pessimistic voices whispered that no matter how talented, Shinra was still just an orphan from a minor village, not even a graduate. What did he have to stand against the entire Uchiha clan? It was sheer folly.

Deep in the night, within the Uchiha clan compound.

The air was thick with a suffocating, oppressive tension.

In the central meeting hall, a fierce argument erupted.

"Brother! Why won't you let me go and kill that damned brat?!" A middle-aged man, Uchiha Kento, demanded, his face etched with fury and impatience.

Standing before him, hands clasped behind his back, was a man whose very presence commanded silence. The aura he exuded, even unintentionally, was enough to make the bravest shudder.

Uchiha Fugaku. Clan Head. Captain of the Konoha Military Police Force.

"Enough!" Fugaku's voice was a whip-crack. "I said we cannot touch him. A children's tournament is one thing. For elders to interfere… what would that say about us?"

Fugaku's brow was deeply furrowed, his expression stormy, but his decision was firm.

"But that outsider brat deliberately crippled Shota!" Kento roared. "He broke my son! And before that, he put Masaki in the hospital, and he's still not fully recovered! This brat is spitting directly on the face of the Uchiha clan, Patriarch!"

He leaned forward, his voice dropping to a venomous hiss. "Most importantly, those two old foxes, Sarutobi and Danzo, have had it out for us for years. If they cultivate monsters like Shinra and Namikaze Minato… where will that leave the Uchiha? What path will we have to live?!"

This final argument struck a raw nerve in Fugaku. He fell silent, pondering for a long moment.

Slowly, he turned to face Kento fully. In his eyes, the dark irises bled away, replaced by a spinning, malevolent crimson. A three-tomoe pattern solidified.

A terrifying, killing intent-laden pressure washed through the room.

His voice, when it came, was colder than the night wind.

"As a member of the Uchiha clan… you must not touch him."

Uchiha Kento, pinned by that Sharingan gaze, shuddered. Then, as if a switch had been flipped, his furious energy vanished. A cold, understanding smirk twisted his lips. The agitation was gone, replaced by a chilling calm.

"Yes. I understand."

Without another word, he turned and melted into the darkness beyond the room.

As Kento's presence faded, Fugaku could only release a heavy, weary sigh. As clan head, he was not blind to the threat. He saw it clearer than anyone.

But some things… still needed to be done by specific hands.

And all actions had consequences.

His gaze lingered on the darkness where Kento had disappeared. In his eyes was not anger, but a deep, profound regret—the look of a man watching another walk towards a point of no return.

Meanwhile, by the creek in the training woods, Shinra was, as usual, pushing his body to its breaking point in a frenzy of exercise.

Perhaps it was the real combat experience, but he felt his control over his power had reached a new level of refinement. There was a sensation, tantalizingly close, of a bottleneck about to shatter. It filled him with exhilaration, driving him to train even more savagely, stopping only when he had pushed himself far beyond his perceived limits.

Finally, he collapsed onto the damp grass, chest heaving as he gulped down the cool night air. That crucial, final step remained just out of reach.

He wasn't discouraged. He ate another massive portion of meat and began again.

The night breeze was gentle. A full moon hung over the water. Crickets chirped. Everything was peaceful, serene.

But what Shinra didn't know, as he lost himself in the rhythm of his training, was that a game of lethal shadows was quietly unfolding, its target fixed firmly on him.
