Chapter 36 - Chapter Thirty-Six: Dornhaven Authority Hall II

The clerk stepped forward to join the other officials and began in an even tone.

"Subject: Evan. Initiate tier. Escalated oversight trial. Anomaly flag resolved prior to transfer. Presenting for planetary registration."

One of the seated officials, older and narrow-eyed, lifted his gaze to Evan. His voice remained controlled.

"State your full name for the record."

Evan met the official's gaze.

"Evan Cole," he said, his voice steady.

The name carried a different weight in this room. It felt less like a personal marker and more like an entry in a ledger.

Styluses moved in near unison across their slates. The officials maintained composed expressions as they recorded it. Off-world arrivals frequently bore unfamiliar names; such details fell within expected variance.

The narrow-eyed official inclined his head.

"Confirm origin world," he said. "And state whether your prior body was retained or restored upon transfer."

"Earth," Evan replied. "Going through integration phase. My original body was restored after trial. The interim body used during simulation and trial was relinquished."

The officials allowed him to finish before recording the details. One of them added a concise notation beside his name, the stylus moving with deliberate economy.

The narrow-eyed official raised his gaze once more.

"Confirm your understanding that return to your origin world remains restricted under active integration protocols," he said. "Current temporal displacement estimates place return beyond reach for an extended duration."

The wording remained clinical. It reflected procedure and record rather than sentiment.

"I understand," Evan said.

The words carried steady weight. A stylus moved, marking acknowledgment beside his name with efficient precision.

The narrow-eyed official inclined his head.

"Present the transport token used for arrival," he said. "Verification will be conducted against planetary issuance logs."

Evan retrieved the token and set it upon the table within the marked circle rather than passing it hand to hand. The metal rested inert for a brief breath before faint geometric lines surfaced across its face, responding to the proximity of an unseen source.

One of the seated officials extended his hand above it without contact. The band at his wrist emitted a controlled pulse. The token answered at once, projecting a thin lattice of light above its surface that displayed a designation string, issuing authority, destination lock, and remaining charges.

The official's gaze moved across the projection with trained efficiency.

"Heliovar-3 Prime Planetary Governance Authority issuance confirmed," he said. "Single-individual transport. Destination locked to Dornhaven Authority Hall. Two charges remain."

A second official activated his wrist band, sending a remote confirmation request through the system interface.

A soft chime sounded in response.

"Planetary authority confirms anomaly resolution and registration directive," the official said.

"Designation cleared for registration."

The projection above the token dissolved as the lattice of light folded inward and vanished into the metal. The nearest official added a final notation, then guided the disc back across the table toward Evan with measured care.

"Body restoration confirmed," he said. "Interim simulation body relinquished. Attribute distribution remains unallocated following physical reversion."

Evan's focus sharpened.

"Clarify," he said.

The narrow-eyed official responded at once.

"Upon restoration of original physiology, prior stat allocation entered suspension. You retain earned allocation rights corresponding to your current level. Points remain available for manual distribution at your discretion following registration."

The explanation carried the cadence of administrative sequencing, precise and procedural.

A second official shifted his focus to another entry in the record.

"Inventory access requires clarification," he said. "Standard planetary protocol grants spatial storage at Initiate tier only under specific authorization."

Evan held his position.

"Your prior access," the official continued, "operated under simulation parameters. That access has been converted into a passive spatial capacity bound to your personal designation. Volume remains abstract and limited. Expansion occurs through tier advancement or sanctioned augmentation."

The explanation unfolded in measured cadence.

"You will refrain from displaying an external inventory interface within public zones," the official added. "Retrieval remains internal and non-visual except under explicit authorization."

The narrow-eyed official folded his hands atop the slate.

"You are newly initiated on this planet," he said. "Much of your survival to this point occurred under irregular conditions. Environmental leverage and tactical restraint function differently from tiered strength."

The tone carried instruction rather than dismissal.

"On Varethis, Initiate tier is commonly reached at an early age among awakened populations. You are capable," he continued, "and your advancement holds merit. Formidability, however, develops with progression. Exercise discretion in conduct, especially in matters involving higher-tier individuals."

Another official spoke, his voice measured.

"Engagement protocols differ between awakened and unawakened citizens. Lethal force directed at non-awakened individuals falls under strict regulation. Context receives review. Circumstance influences outcome, and excess invites penalty."

His expression remained composed.

"Your prior actions during anomaly conditions were recorded as justified under duress. Civil jurisdiction applies separate standards."

The chamber held its disciplined quiet.

"Conduct yourself accordingly."

A third official adjusted the slate before him and spoke in an even tone.

"In recognition of irregular rerouting and escalated oversight during advancement, limited compensatory provisions have been authorized," he said. "You will receive civil currency sufficient for one standard year of modest living within Valryn Empire jurisdiction, six months of lodging credit within Dornhaven, and a supplementary allotment of system credits."

He continued without pause.

"Additionally, you are granted two years of access to planetary-managed dungeons at a reduced levy. This access excludes restricted Legacy dungeon sites. Standard safety waivers remain in effect."

The narrow-eyed official resumed with seamless continuity.

"Library privileges within Dornhaven will extend beyond baseline Initiate access. The scope includes basic knowledge, foundational magical theory, system law archives, dungeon procedural frameworks, and regional cartography. Access to restricted skill frameworks and higher-tier records requires separate qualification."

A stylus marked the final line in the record.

"These provisions remain conditional upon lawful conduct and continued registration compliance."

Evan inclined his head slightly.

"The compensatory provisions," he said, his tone measured rather than impressed. "Do they become accessible immediately, or do they require activation through specific offices?"

The official who had outlined them responded at once.

"Civil currency and lodging credit will be issued upon completion of this session. System credits will bind to your status once registration seals. The reduced dungeon levy applies automatically upon entry attempt. Library privileges activate upon presentation of your registry seal at the Dornhaven archives."

Evan absorbed the structure of it, committing it to memory.

He adjusted his stance a fraction.

"And the transport token," he said. "Its destination is currently locked to this hall. Is recalibration permitted?"

The clerk answered.

"Yes. Recalibration is permitted following registration. The destination must correspond to a sanctioned platform within planetary jurisdiction. Reassignment consumes one remaining charge."

The information came in a direct, unembellished cadence, leaving no ambiguity in its terms.

The narrow-eyed official inclined his head once.

"Registration proceeding," he said.

Another official rose and retrieved a small metallic instrument from a recessed compartment in the table. The device resembled a narrow stylus, its tip carrying a faint, contained glow. He set a thin glass panel into the inner ring of the table and motioned toward Evan.

"Extend your right hand."

Evan complied.

The stylus touched the pad of his thumb. A precise prick followed, shallow and controlled. A single bead of blood surfaced and was drawn into the instrument at once. The glass panel beneath his hand pulsed softly as contact registered, capturing ridge patterns and heat signature in the same motion.

"Maintain contact," the official said.

Evan placed his palm flat against the panel. A low hum moved through the chamber as the system completed its scan.

"Biometric seal initiated," the official confirmed.

The hum tapered in a controlled descent rather than ending in a sharp cut. The glass panel cooled beneath his palm, its glow receding to clear transparency.

"Biometric seal recorded," the official stated. "Designation anchored to physical identity. Fraudulent duplication probability reduced to negligible range."

A faint vibration traveled through the metallic band at the clerk's wrist. He reviewed it briefly, then inclined his head.

"Registration is complete in principle," he said. "Full civic confirmation will finalize upon internal cross-verification within the day. Report within that period should discrepancies arise. Otherwise, your standing remains stable."

Evan inclined his head.

"I will review when time permits," he replied evenly.

He chose not to request immediate access to his status. The question remained present, but his priority held firm.

"I have a separate matter," he continued. "A citizen seeking formal submission to Authority protection. I was instructed to present her intent."
