Chapter 7 - Chapter 6 - The Reflection of the Past ‎

‎*Emily's POV*

‎My eyes flashed through the room and then settled on Peter. Every time I look at him, it seems as if I have seen him before but I can't really remember where.

‎"Why am I here?" I always ask myself this question. Well, the answer lies in my past.

‎*****

‎The disaster cost my family their wealth, status and property. Our house was destroyed and my father died because of the storm.

‎Life wasn't as easy as it was before. From being on the top to being at the bottom. We were the story of the day, "Torzart family fell from grace to grass ". Due to that, my mother became depressed. The cause of her depression was simply by the death of my father and our situation.

Every time I see her, I always see pure hatred, hatred for herself, hatred for everything in this world. This hatred has affected her mentally driving her to commit suicide several times on which account it failed.

‎In order to protect her, I had to take her to a psychiatric hospital, which wasn't easy to pay for. The money in our account wasn't enough to settle the bills; I had to beg several of our relatives to assist us, who immediately declined. I could remember when each one of them came to our house to ask for the assistance of my father when they were in a rough spot and he assisted them immediately, despite that, they couldn't even return the favor.‎

‎To pay for the bills, I did several part-time jobs, mingling them with my education. I was in a rough spot, a student paying for her tuition fee and her mother's medical bills, but that stopped on the day I went to a restaurant.

‎I walked into a restaurant and met a young man who wore dark shades and sat on a seat near the end of the restaurant. The atmosphere around him was kind of sober.

"Maybe he is the type of guy that is always serious," I mumbled

‎I sat on a seat that was immediately before his seat, we were practically sitting behind one another.

‎"Miss Emily, how are you doing ? Do not face the back," His strict words betrayed the sense of pride he felt.

‎'What he is proud of, I don't know, but he is proud about something.'

‎"I am fine, please who are you?" I replied back, taking note of his civilized manner of speech. "No need to know who I am, but I was referred to you by Professor Davidson who says you are knowledgeable about the biology of aquatic life. Am I right?" He inquired.

‎'What? When did he meet Professor Davidson? Did he...'

‎"Hmm...you might be wondering 'when did I meet him', but that is not necessary. What is necessary is that will you help me on the expedition I am planning to go on?" His voice was calm as he asked the question.

"To where, Mister?" I said as my voice showed the distrust I have for him. "Nowhere serious, but the unknown," He stated those words nonchalantly.

‎'For real, who really is this guy?' I was mind blown by how he casually answered. "I can't go, maybe you should look for another person."

‎"Ah I see, there will be benefit for the expedition enough to settle for your tuition fee and your mom's medical bills," I could have swore I heard him chuckle. "I will think about it," I replied him.

‎"When you thought hard about it call this number," He handed me a business card through my back. "Bye."

That was the last thing I heard before he disappeared. "Sir !!" I turned my head to look at him only for me to find no one there. 'What a mysterious man.'

‎*****

‎"But fate had something in turn for me," I mumbled.

‎"Captain, begin the sequence," Quinn's voice brought me back to reality. The captain opened a case labeled 'Emergency only' in it was a red button with one final warning the captain pushed the button.

‎At first, all operations ceased for a second, then the second generator kicked in. You could hear all the machines in the submarine moving at high speed. After a few seconds, the submarine started glowing. At first, it was a faint glow but at the later stage, it glowed as bright as the sun.

‎The surrounding area was immediately illuminated by the light. The Kraken reeled back from the light. With a loud shriek to show it displeasure it removed its tentacles from the submarine. Along the other monsters, it staggered backward.

‎"Now!!" Mark yelled.

The submarine maneuvered from the tentacles, moving deeper into the abyss at a quick pace.

‎"Are we going to make it before the second generator stops powering the sub?" Edward asked trying to be compose and calm.

‎'It's always under pressure that your fake personality begins to crack.' 'I wonder what his real self is?' I thought as I stared at Peter noticing his calm composure.

‎'Why is he calm ? Does he have another plan?' "Why are you so calm?" I whispered to him.

‎"Nothing, but I can feel it in my bone that we are getting closer to the unknown." He said plainly.
