Chapter 53 - Chapter 53: Chief Pete's cleanup

Chapter 53: Chief Pete's cleanup

It certainly wasn't Danny who threw the feces; only Art had such a twisted sense of humor.

"Splat."

The yellow substance squarely hit Mark's forehead, even splattering onto others.

Mark's eyes, mouth, and nostrils were completely covered in the disgusting substance, and when he realized what it was, he instantly broke down.

"F*ck... Ugh, ugh, ugh, give me water, a towel... Ugh."

The few people around him, seeing Mark running around wildly, not only didn't help him but moved even further away, afraid of getting any of the filth on themselves.

When Mark finally managed to wipe his face with his clothes and saw the culprit, he started screaming obscenities and charged recklessly towards Danny and the clown-faced freak beside him.

Mark's buddies, still showing some loyalty, gathered around, ready for a group fight.

Mark was too disgusting, so he was naturally left to Art.

As for the other few punks.

When Danny single-handedly grabbed a person by the neck, lifted him, and slammed him hard against the locker, making loud banging sounds, the others were all scared and didn't dare step forward.

To put it bluntly, they were just bullies who preyed on the weak.

Danny casually threw the punk in his hand several feet away.

He didn't kill anyone at school; Art would visit each of them later. Killing them so easily would be too merciful for these people.

As Danny passed by Maria, he heard a soft, "Thank you."

Danny turned back and looked at Maria, saying, "You're welcome. This town doesn't tolerate bullying. You didn't do anything wrong; they did. And I wasn't just helping you, either."

Maria didn't believe him. Danny had no grudge against Mark and his group, so why would he provoke them for no reason?

"Can you tell me your name?"

Danny left Maria with his back turned, casually waving his hand.

"Danny, I'm just a passing student."

She watched Danny walk to the exit, and then saw a girl come out and happily hug him.

A hint of imperceptible disappointment appeared in Maria's bright, beautiful eyes.

She put on her headphones again, listened to music, and returned home alone, greeting her parents, eating dinner, and then showering.

There was no warmth to speak of.

It was the unreliability and inability to confide in her family that made her afraid to resist when Mark bullied her.

This made her desire and demands for affection very low.

Even for her best friend, who wasn't particularly kind to her, Maria carefully maintained their relationship.

In the bathroom.

Maria stood in front of the mirror. She looked at herself in the mirror, thinking about the afternoon's events.

It was the first time someone had so firmly told her she wasn't wrong.

Instead of her father, who blamed all mistakes on her.

Maria's heart was beating wildly, but then she thought of the girl hugging Danny's arm—that must be his girlfriend, right?

Water flowed slowly down her skin.

In a daze, she seemed to see another version of herself in the mirror speaking, with such confidence and certainty.

"You seem to have fallen for that boy? Just a simple act of protection? But he seems to have a girlfriend?"

"I can help you, help you take him away..."

This was no ordinary reflection—this was something else, something that lived in mirrors and fed on loneliness and desire.

...

Midnight.

Prosperity suddenly erupted in chaos.

The reason was that mutated spiders attacked the town. Each one was astonishingly large, comparable to a small car.

Even larger ones could rival an SUV.

Now, everyone in the town was fleeing.

Danny's town, being the closest, needed to dispatch police support.

Chief Pete, without hesitation, led the team.

He even somehow learned that Danny had become a Church demonologist and called Danny, waking him from his sleep, hoping he would serve as a consultant for this operation.

Pete knew a little about unusual situations.

After all, he'd dealt with some strange cases in his career.

Danny couldn't refuse; he had made a deal with Pete, and the latter had provided him with some conveniences and privileges.

It was necessary to go.

Jennifer woke up groggily, just about to ask Danny what he was going to do, when he kissed her forehead.

Jennifer: "Mmm..."

"Go back to sleep, I'll be back soon."

Danny went downstairs and got into the police car, thinking to himself that it seemed there were some mutated spiders that had escaped from the mine.

He couldn't be blamed for this; giant spiders liked to lay eggs.

Not to mention these were mutated, who knew where they would hide and lay eggs everywhere.

...

Prosperity.

When Danny arrived, the situation was not good. The entire town was in chaos, with not only fleeing citizens but also police officers fighting against the giant spiders.

Pete, with his characteristic presence, welcomed Danny's arrival. His officers charged ahead while Pete coordinated from a safer position. This was very Pete-like.

Since Danny had registered as a Church demonologist, he could appropriately reveal some of his abilities.

He looked at the largest concentration of giant spiders and said, "I'll handle this side."

Pete then said, "Danny, try to rescue the town's residents as much as possible."

Danny rolled his eyes, but still said he understood, giving Pete some face.

Then, he and Diana stealthily entered the darkness.

The mutated spiders were almost no match for Diana's malevolence. With just a thought, the mutated spiders were torn apart.

Those who were fortunate enough to witness this scene couldn't help but put their hands together and call it divine intervention.

If it weren't for the fact that the person who said this was an elderly man who looked terrified, Danny would have gone up to him to clarify who exactly made the move.

Diana killed the mutated spiders very quickly.

They fought their way to the spiders' underground nest in the old mine.

Indeed, many town residents wrapped in webbing were captured here.

Danny was too lazy to free them one by one, so he directly had Diana cut all the webbing. Then he called out loudly, saying something like, "I'm a demonologist from the Church, here to rescue you," and so on. In short, he told them to follow him and leave.

There were men, women, old, and young among them.

As soon as they came out, they screamed at the sight of the mutated spider corpses. Only a very few calm people understood Danny's words and followed him.

Among them were Ashley and her younger brother, Mike.

Once people started leaving, the rest would naturally follow, unless they wanted to stay in this godforsaken underground nest.

Mike was the most interested in Danny. He was still a kid and undoubtedly admired demonologists, these heroes promoted by the Church.

Seeing that Danny ignored him, he even pulled his sister over, saying that if Danny would talk to him, he would introduce his sister to Danny.

Mike was a precocious kid.

Ashley's face flushed when she heard this, but she didn't object and secretly observed Danny's profile.

To put it bluntly, she was impressed.

Danny looked at the little kid in front of him and said seriously, "Listen, buddy, I'm going to deal with a supernatural case with the Warrens tomorrow. Right now, I need to get some good sleep and don't have time to chat with you."

Mike became even more excited; this was the demonologist he imagined.

"Cool!"

After rescuing the civilians, Danny handed them all over to Pete to handle. The Warrens having a lead on the Annabelle case was true.

If there was no notification in the next few days, Danny would prioritize dealing with Dead Silence and Mary Shaw.
