Chapter 15: My Army Nearly Wiped Out—Useless Teammate? Godly Teammate!

The alpha crawler's current size was almost four times that of a regular crawler.

Five ordinary crawlers were like toys before it. If they weren't careful and got caught, they'd suffer the same fate as the first one.

Danny felt like it was a Resident Evil matchup—Lickers versus a Stage Two Tyrant.

Juno was also ruthless. While the alpha was being harassed by Danny's subordinates, she rushed forward, did a slide, came up under the alpha, tightened her grip on the combat knife, aimed at its midsection, and stabbed hard.

The blade smoothly entered the alpha's flesh.

But not much penetrated. Juno felt strong resistance, and no matter how hard she pushed, the knife stayed within that range.

The alpha's massive foot was already stomping down.

Juno rolled away and scrambled clear.

Beth and Rebecca were shooting from a distance.

One Eye, holding a machete, roared and charged toward the alpha at high speed, but was quickly sent flying back even faster.

Though Juno and the others didn't know where these two extremely deformed men came from, as long as they were fighting this monster, they were allies.

In that instant, the alpha grabbed another ordinary crawler behind its back, gripping it with one massive hand. Even though the crawler struggled desperately, it couldn't avoid its tragic fate.

The alpha slammed it hard onto the ground, and the crawler instantly turned into pulp.

Another containment object dead, leaving only four to contend with it.

The alpha could make countless mistakes, but if Danny's side made just one, his life would be over.

They couldn't break its external defense at all. They had to find a way from the inside.

Danny was still hiding a high-explosive grenade, which he'd really spent serious money on through his previous deal with Pete, but how could he make the alpha swallow it?

After all, the creature didn't seem like a monster with regressed intelligence and no reasoning.

Some intelligence, but not much.

Crack.

Another crawler died, its head half-bitten off by the alpha, leaving only its body twitching.

Any more hesitation and he might truly meet his maker.

"Juno, run! Change locations—it's too open here!"

Danny shouted and turned to run. The two Hillickers and Beth followed suit.

Juno, wanting to live, quickly followed Danny. As she rounded a corner, she looked back.

She saw the monster eating the smaller crawler like a snack, then its blood-red pupils fixed on Juno, and it immediately scaled the wall, coming for her like a spider.

Juno ran even faster, wishing she had more legs, and only breathed easier after catching up with Danny.

The group burrowed into the narrowest parts of the cave.

Juno, bringing up the rear, kept looking back, fearing the monster would suddenly emerge from the dark tunnel and grab her foot...

Just thinking about it sent chills down her spine.

As everyone knows,

the very thing people least want to happen often does.

As if to confirm Juno's sixth sense, a human head suddenly appeared from the darkness.

It was Sam!

Juno was startled, but soon another creature's head appeared behind the human head, biting into Sam's skull.

This time, Juno truly cried in terror, shouting Beth's name as she scrambled upward.

Danny, who'd been moving deliberately slowly at the front, sped up. Hearing Juno's voice, he knew the bait had worked. This was the only crude method he could think of.

After climbing up, he reached down and pulled Beth and Rebecca up, telling them to stay back.

Ten seconds later,

Juno appeared in Danny's sight. She was in total panic, devoid of her initial leader's confidence. The bloodshot veins around her eyes engulfed her pupils, showing a desperate will to survive.

Danny gave her a hand. After Juno came up, she saw the alpha right behind her, almost immediately—less than a three-second gap.

Seeing the alpha about to climb out, One Eye jumped down directly, forcibly wedged himself into the opening, and got stuck there perfectly.

The consequence of doing this was that One Eye had to face the furious alpha, whose fangs directly bit into the Hillicker's shoulder, tearing off a large chunk of flesh.

This scene was disgusting and terrifying.

Vampire feeding seemed elegant compared to this.

One Eye wouldn't last long. When the alpha finished eating him and broke free, it would likely be their death.

Danny aimed his rifle and fired a burst, finding it ineffective. He simply tossed the rifle aside and pulled out the high-explosive grenade.

It wasn't that he didn't want to throw it directly into the alpha's mouth, but because he'd drawn so much aggro earlier, he was constantly being targeted, and he only had one chance...

"Quick, Danny, give me the grenade!"

Juno picked up a rock and threw it with all her strength.

But what good was a rock against hide that even bullets couldn't penetrate?

Hearing this, Beth fumbled through her small pack and found a flare.

After Three Finger had fired all his arrows, Danny's power, fused with the card, was several times stronger than before, but it was clearly useless in the current situation.

All eight subordinates were almost wiped out, and One Eye was also close to death.

The alpha had already eaten up to the neck. The head was hanging to one side—not dead yet, but close.

Danny didn't dare gamble whether an external explosion from the grenade could kill the alpha. Breaking its defense and killing it were two different things.

Beth sat to the side, lit the red flare, and just stared blankly, with a sense of waiting for death.

Juno tirelessly threw rocks. That was all she could do now.

She wanted to avenge Sam, she wanted to escape this nightmare.

Thinking this, Juno seemed somewhat lost. In a trance, she seemed to hear someone calling her name.

"Juno!"

Hearing Rebecca and Beth's shouts, Juno snapped awake, but her right foot was caught by the alpha and dragged away. Only then did she realize half of One Eye's body was gone?

Danny was truly speechless. His incompetent teammate still had the nerve to space out. Wasn't this just asking to be extra food?

American horror films truly didn't lie!

Danny wanted to save her, but he really didn't know how. He pulled out the high-explosive grenade with the thought of maybe saving her, but he still leaned toward not...

"Quick, Danny, give me the grenade!" Juno suddenly shouted. She was being dragged, lying on the ground, using her last ounce of strength to look at Danny imploringly.

Hesitating for a moment, Danny threw the grenade, then ran out of the blast radius without looking back.

Beth and Rebecca, realizing what was happening, followed Danny out.

Juno caught the grenade and pulled the pin. She was dragged all the way to the alpha. She smelled its foul breath and looked at its blood-soaked fangs. Her eyes held relief and regret, but no fear.

"Come on, you son of a bitch!"

At the last moment, Juno raised a middle finger, taunting the alpha. The moment it opened its mouth, her arm, gripping the grenade, shoved it directly into the creature's gaping maw.

With one bite, half of Juno's body was gone.

Useless teammate?

Juno proved with her death what a godly teammate was!
