Chaos had already begun spreading across the world. No matter where one looked, there were debris, flames, and abnormal beings. Though Humanity's survival instinct was one of its greatest traits, allowing it to endure countless hardships throughout history.
If there was chaos, then there must also be an origin — the one who had caused this uncertainty.
Standing opposite the group of students was a black spider. Strangely, it had a human face. Its two large eyes bulged unnaturally, almost as if they would burst, and tears flowed from them without end. With just a single glance, it appeared utterly abnormal, something that did not belong to this world. The feeling it gave was one of deep uncertainty, mixed with a fear that seemed to grow within the depths of one's soul.
Strangely, it had no mouth, yet it began to speak in a childish voice:
"After hundreds of battles on Bone Island, I survived those vile centipedes. And now, here I stand—completely freed from my shackles. From this moment on, I will begin my reign. You humans shall kneel before me and become my slaves. If you do so, I may graciously spare your lives."
It was ridiculous to hear his voice, but even scarier to see his appearance. What a joke, Yeger thought to himself. Unfortunately, although the thought remained in his mind, his lips curled upward slightly — and it was noticed by the Black Spider.
"Are you laughing, you mongrel?"
"What? Me? No, no… that's impossible. It was just dust that touched my lip, and without my control, it curled upward."
"Is that true?" the Black Spider asked, narrowing his eyes to discern truth from lies.
"Yes… yes, it's absolutely true."
"But you're still laughing. Enough of this! You despicable thing—you mocked me. Go to hell!" the spider shouted, his expression twisted with anger.
Without wasting a second, the Black Spider lunged at Yeger, jumping high to deliver a John Cena–like punch to his belly. All the students surrounding them quickly stepped back to give them space.
Even Hanna and Teacher Nathan believed that Yeger would somehow escape this problem… somehow.
However, Yeger was not in a good mood when he saw the approaching, unfathomably disgusting Black Spider as it leaped into the air and rushed toward him at terrifying speed.
There was no time to think. It had come down to a direct clash.
Compared to an average person, Yeger was indeed taller than most of them, and more importantly, his weight and build were enough to withstand damage or absorb impact.
However, the Black Spider was nothing like an ordinary spider. Even the largest spider in the world could not compete with its size.
Though its height could not reach a person's abdomen, it still reached the lower part of the tibia.
I had never imagined in my life that I would fight against a spider… but that's exactly what will be happening in the next few seconds.
The Black Spider crashed down from the air straight toward his belly. Fortunately, Yeger had already taken a defensive stance. His hands were positioned well, ready to protect his stomach from the dreadful, powerful strike of the deadly spider.
Creak!
The sound of bones shattering could be heard.
With a pained expression, Yeger staggered backward uncontrollably. The expression on his face was far from good.
However, the Black Spider was completely unscathed. After all, Yeger had only defended himself and made no counterattack.
After a few seconds, a slow grin appeared on Yeger's face.
"Hey… is that all you've got? If that's the case, it's my turn."
"Are you thinking too highly of yourself, you fat pig?" the Black Spider responded coldly.
"Let's see whether I'm thinking too highly of myself or not."
Fuck, fuck… it hurts so much. I assume my forearm bone has shattered. I can't continue much longer. Other than bullshitting, there's nothing else I can do.
Where is Finn? I've been stalling this Black Spider long enough, haven't I?
While Yeger was trying his best to stall the Black Spider, Finn was also trying his best to escape the void.
For years, Yeger and Finn had been close friends. They knew each other very well and were known as the best duo at school.
Yeger was especially good at acting and always knew how to deal with anyone he faced, because he understood human nature very well.
On the other hand, Finn was extremely smart—accurate and precise in everything he did, and very careful with his plans. Of course, mistakes still happened, but he always treated failures as steps toward his next move.
What truly made them a perfect duo was that they were both very cunning. However, despite their cunning nature, they would never betray each other.
But now, they were facing uncertainty and a deadly opponent—the Black Spider.
Everywhere around Finn was nothing but an endless void. There was nothing to see; the only thing visible was boundless darkness.
"System, can you tell me how I can get out of this void?"
"You cannot enter or exit it whenever you want. This ability activates on its own. Once the external threat disappears, you will return to reality."
"Oh… what's the use of having this kind of ability if I can't even control when to use it?"
Suddenly, a pulling force appeared, dragging Finn toward the center of the void.
"Wait, what's happening—?"
Before he could finish his sentence, he was sucked away and disappeared.
"Crap!"
Everyone wore bewildered expressions as they listened to the conversation between Yeger and the Black Spider, including Hanna and Teacher Nathan.
"When was the last time you looked at your face in the mirror?" Yeger asked, trying his best to stall this monstrosity. The spider seemed extremely intelligent, yet it still failed to escape Yeger's trap of provoking it with nonsense and making it vulnerable.
However, the Black Spider's punch was even harder.
"Do you remember the last time you were skinny? You can't remember, because you were just born."
"HAHAHAHA!" the spider laughed in a ridiculous childish voice, making it even harder to resist the urge to laugh.
Soon everyone began laughing—including Teacher Nathan, who had been serious the entire time.
Yes… this is working. Everyone, laugh harder… Yeger prayed inwardly.
Meanwhile, as they were laughing, Finn suddenly appeared out of nowhere, holding a knife.
This was the moment when expectation and reality felt like they were separated by entire planets.
He simply couldn't believe what he was seeing.
They are… laughing?
