Chapter 33 - Just a Poor Man Doing His Job

"[Congratulations, you have significantly influenced another person's life, and they are now out of the clutches of death.]"

[Reward]: Nine days and twenty hours.

[Remaining Lifespan]: Forty-five days and fifteen hours.

When Elion was far enough away from the murder scene, a message granting him nine extra days of life arrived, greatly surprising him.

This was a good reward. After all, he had put his own life at risk, so the reward balanced things out somewhat.

This also proved that preventing a death in advance could be considered saving a life. In other words, what would happen if there were a nuclear peace crisis or something similar in the world?

He would only need to stop it once to completely eliminate the long-term effects of his cancer. However, as things stood, the world was fairly peaceful at the moment. Besides, someone like him would not be capable of doing something like that famous agent who carries out impossible missions.

Lost in his thoughts, Elion took a taxi back to the Continental Hotel to wash his clothes.

To his surprise, he ran into the same driver from yesterday.

When the driver saw Elion's face covered in all that blood, he assumed Elion had come to see him specifically because of the detour he had taken yesterday.

Upon learning about the nearby bloody scene, a look of panic immediately appeared on his face.

Was that murder scene caused by this man? Was he planning to kill me too? Or was he trying to frame me?

The driver, caught up in his own mental drama, only wanted to get out of there by slamming on the accelerator, but unexpectedly, as an experienced driver in his panic he confused the brake with the accelerator.

Instead of propelling the car forward, pressing the brake brought it to a stop on the spot, allowing the "killer" in his eyes to get into the car without any trouble. The driver's eyes kept darting toward the back seat as he stammered, "W-where… where are we going?"

Hearing the somewhat familiar voice, Elion looked up, recognized the driver, and immediately smiled. "Oh, it's you! What a coincidence… Take me to the same place, the hotel. I'll pay you for the trouble this time."

When Elion recognized him, the driver almost burst into tears. "No… it wasn't me. I don't know you, and I've never been to a Continental Hotel."

Sensing that something was wrong with the driver, Elion looked at his own face reflected in the window with some suspicion.

Was his appearance really that fierce?

Although he looked like someone who wouldn't have much trouble finding a partner, he wasn't frightening enough to scare people like this.

"You don't have a twin brother, do you?"

Hearing this, the driver, as if he had found a savior, immediately repeated,

"Yes, yes, I have an older brother who also drives a taxi. His name is Antonio Mohamead. Maybe you know him."

Elion nodded and said nothing more.

It was clear that the driver was under a lot of stress. He was afraid that if he kept talking, the driver wouldn't even be able to tell traffic lights apart.

Elion did not want to die in a car accident without knowing why.

Fortunately, the driver's condition improved as the atmosphere gradually fell into silence.

After being dropped off at the hotel entrance, Elion handed the money to the driver, but the driver's hand trembled and the money fell to the ground, clearly because he was terrified.

Without understanding what was happening, Elion could only get out of the car and leave the driver to deal with his own scattered money.

After getting out of the car, Elion suddenly noticed that an ambulance had just passed through the nearby intersection. It seemed that the assassin from earlier had also returned to the Mainland Hotel.

That was true. With assassins wanting to kill him, only the Continental Hotel could offer him temporary protection.

However, this protection would not last long.

Just like John, once the High Table approved his assassination, the assassin would soon lose access to the Continental Hotel.

But that had nothing to do with Elion.

Elion entered the hotel lobby, walked up to Charon, tapped the desk to get his attention, and then asked, "Is there any mission tonight?"

Charon looked at Elion with slight surprise; it was rare to see a doctor as proactive as him.

"We have a complicated surgery scheduled for tonight, and we're short-staffed. As far as I know, it will last at least three hours. Are you sure you can handle it?"

"Of course."
