Chapter 87 - Chapter 87 — “After the Storm”

Year X784 — Early Summer

Location: Magnolia · Fairy Tail Guildhall

---

The guildhall doors hadn't even fully closed before the noise exploded.

"WE WONNNN—!!"

Natsu leapt onto a table, fists raised, flame flickering from his hair. "Did you see that last punch?!"

Gray immediately grabbed his collar. "You idiot, that was MY opening!"

They crashed into a chair, knocking over three mugs and one unfortunate table leg.

"Oi! That was my table!" Macao yelled.

"Not anymore!" Cana shouted back, already refilling drinks.

Happy zipped through the chaos, arms full of bandages. "Aye! Emergency after-party!"

Despite the mess, despite the bruises, despite the exhaustion—

the guild was smiling.

---

Lucy sat on the edge of a bench near the wall, knees pulled close, keys resting in her lap. Her body still felt heavy, lungs remembering the moment air disappeared.

She inhaled slowly.

I fought…

I didn't freeze.

Her fingers tightened around Sagittarius's key.

"Hey."

She looked up.

Ren stood there, coat torn at the shoulder, faint scorch marks along his sleeve—but otherwise steady.

"You did good," he said simply.

Lucy blinked. "…That's it? After everything?"

Ren smiled faintly. "That's more than enough."

Her chest warmed in a way she didn't quite understand yet.

---

Near the bar, Juvia sat quietly, towel around her shoulders, water magic settling like a calm tide after a storm.

Mira placed a mug of warm tea in front of her.

"No alcohol today," Mira said gently. "You earned rest."

Juvia nodded, hands wrapping around the cup. "…Juvia wasn't afraid."

Mira paused.

Then smiled wider than before.

"That," she said softly, "is growth."

Across the room, Erza leaned against a pillar, armor gone, bandages visible along her arms. She watched the guild—really watched them.

They stood their ground, she thought.

Not because they were ordered to… but because they chose to.

Her gaze drifted to Ren.

He stood quietly now, half in shadow, half in lamplight. Not seeking praise. Not surrounded.

Just… present.

She walked over.

"You should be resting," Erza said.

Ren glanced at her. "So should you."

She snorted. "Fair."

They stood side by side, listening to the chaos like a familiar song.

"…Thank you," Erza added after a moment.

Ren didn't ask for what.

---

The door creaked open.

Makarov stepped in.

The room stilled—not instantly, but gradually, like waves settling after a shout.

The guild master surveyed them.

Bruised. Loud. Whole.

"…You idiots," he said gruffly.

Then he smiled.

"You protected your own. You stood together. And you reminded the world why Fairy Tail does not bow."

Cheers erupted again—louder this time.

Makarov's eyes lingered briefly on Ren, on Mira, on Juvia… then on Lucy.

Especially Lucy.

"You did well, kid," he said kindly.

Lucy flushed. "Th-thank you, Master!"

---

Later—much later—the guild quieted.

Some members slept where they fell. Others talked in low voices, replaying moments, laughing softly.

Lucy stepped outside onto the balcony.

The night air was cool. Magnolia glowed peacefully below.

She hugged herself.

I survived my first war, she realized.

Footsteps approached.

Juvia joined her, rain gently misting the air without falling.

"…Does Fairy Tail always survive things like this?" Lucy asked quietly.

Juvia smiled, eyes reflecting the stars. "No."

Lucy stiffened.

"But Fairy Tail always survives together."

Lucy let out a breath she hadn't known she was holding.

"…I think," she said slowly, "I really joined the right place."

Juvia nodded. "Juvia knows."

---

Inside, Ren stood near the notice board, fingers brushing over mission requests he hadn't taken yet.

Mira leaned against the counter, watching him.

"You don't look relieved," she said lightly.

Ren exhaled. "I am. Just… thinking."

Mira tilted her head. "About?"

"…How many storms are coming."

Mira smiled—not gently, not sadly—but with quiet confidence.

"Then we'll weather them," she said. "Like we just did."

Ren met her eyes.

For the first time since Phantom Lord fell, he allowed himself to relax.

Outside, laughter drifted into the night.

Inside, Fairy Tail stood—unchanged, yet stronger.

And somewhere deep beneath the noise, the bonds that would shape the future quietly tightened.
