Chapter 1 - That's Odd I.

"Run! Don't look back!"

Damn it Emma Fischer.

"Forget about me! Save yourself!"

Why?

"Hurry!"

Why are you so kind?

I trample on weeds through the forest and ran and ran and ran. My feet was damp, it hurt so much, and it became harder to breathe. But soon enough, I saw lights. Lights to a city while I never once looked back.

Shit. Emma Fischer, I'll definitely save you. Wait for me.

I promise.

In this world, there are three very important things. One is fire, the first light and what shaped humanity's current progress. Prometheus probably had the same thought, probably. Second, was internet. Through the internet, i can talk to girls online!

And lastly, sci-fi.

"What? This is it?"

"Unfortunately, that's the last chapter of 'Paradox'."

"Really? Oh man!"

I really liked sci-fi media. Books, novels, even shows, when they included science fiction, life just smelled good.

And 'Paradox'? It was my favorite sci-fi novel. And as you can tell, the production of the novel has already been finished.

"Thank you so much, Edward bro!"

Edward Fischer, a really great person and my favorite senior. He runs a bookstore and most of the time, I spend my time there reading.

Although if there's one thing I don't like about him or his bookstore.

"Hey nerd! What are you reading this time? Hahaha!"

It was his sister, Emma Fischer.

"S-shut up! I'm not a nerd."

"Hahaha. Wait, is that RoboMan behind you!?"

"What? Where!?"

"You're so gullible, Hahaha!"

Yes, this was precisely why I don't like her. She makes a fool out of everyone, especially to nerds like me. And of course, I couldn't do anything about it.

"Close it, Emma."

And this was why Edward bro was my favorite senior.

He'd always step up for me and defend me, he was my hero.

"F**k big bro, what do you want?"

"Stop teasing Kai. Everyone has interests."

"Yeah whatever, not everyone likes science."

"Well Kai does."

Emma was taken aback by his older brother. She didn't expect him to defend me that much, and so, she ranted.

"Why do you like Kai more than me? Do you not see me as a sister? What's wrong with you!?"

"It's not that, Emma. I'm saying this because you keep teasing Kai."

"Well I hate Kai! So shut up."

It's not like I remained calm throughout the whole situation. I already knew she hated me, but still, this hurts more than I thought.

"Emma."

"F**k you!"

As Emma said that, she ran towards her room while stomping her feet. Edward then said to me.

"I'm sorry Kai, she's just like that."

"It's okay Edward bro, I already expected it."

This was a lie. I never thought she'd straight out admit in front of her older brother that she hates me. I was in a catharsis, and my heart was obviously pounding.

Shit, I'm sorry Emma. Whatever it was that I did, I'm sorry.

But, f**k you.

"Anyways, I'll be going now Edward bro."

"Okay okay, see ya Kai."

I waved my hand and turned around. As I walk out of the bookstore, the cold breeze of autumn brushed against my face right away.

My name is Kai Dokksu, and I am in my last year of high school. I hardly have interests, well except sci-fi media of course. But most of all, I hate going to school.

"Hey everyone look, it's Kai."

"Hello Einstein!"

Obviously I got bullied a lot, and at first, I used to defend myself. But, I gradually just got used to it, and most ardently, it's as if it became my lifestyle to be one.

"Settle down everyone, class is starting. Turn your History books to page 167."

History, my favorite worst subject. Narrating the past is the most useless crap I have ever experienced.

Is what I would say if I was a total moron. History is very nice, and though some might hate it, it depicts how our ancestors survived during their time. It inspires me that at least somehow, I can survive mine too.

Well, what I saw next crushed me.

"Emma, why are you late?"

"Sorry teach, I overslept."

"Is that a reason?"

"No teach, sorry."

"Sit down."

"Thanks teach."

As Emma sat down to her desk, I began to recall everything that happened that day.

"Well I hate Kai!..."

As I think and think and think about that, I feel my mind going blank. Everything's spinning, and as if I'm dyslexic, the words start jumping and running around.

"Kai."

Emma Fischer. I hate this woman with my life. I have no interest in her, the same way as she does for me.

"What?"

I say in a hurried, angry tone.

"Nothing, nerd."

Damn it. I really hate her, I swear. If I could either save her or this entire class, I'd choose the entire class.

"That's it for today. Goodbye class."

As history ends, Emma stands up and goes to her locker to get ready for the next class. It's not like I care, I don't need to get anything yet anyways.

"Where are you going?"

"Why do you care?"

That's right. Why did I care? I thought I hated her, so why did I ask?

"Nothing."

"Nerd."

Damn, I'm totally an Idiot, walking straight into my own trap.

The next class is Science, my all-time favorite subject. Everything in their is just great, and is explainable.

When everyone's already left homeroom, that's when I proceed to walk to the next class.

However.

The hallways were unusually quiet. No chatters, no screaming. All were quiet.

And at the end of that hallway was my Science classroom, which now emitted a bright, neon green light.

I walked nervously. Maybe it was a projector? Or an experiment involving green? Or maybe it was just a green LED light.

I walked nevertheless. Fifteen steps, ten steps, five steps. I'm nearing it.

Three steps, two steps, and finally, one last step.

As I open the door, something awaited me.

Not my teacher, not my classmates, not even Emma Fischer.

It was homeroom. The history teacher was discussing, and everyone was seated. I enetered, and the teacher asked.

"Kai, why are you late?"

What? What happened? Isn't it supposed to be Science period?

While thinking about it, a familiar face happened to walk past me.

"What are you standing there around for?"

It was Emma Fischer.
