The semifinals are about to begin. The crowd's energy has only increased since the first round. Everyone's excited to see how the top fighters match up against each other.
[Announcer] "The first semifinal match! Aurelia versus Krath!"
Aurelia walks onto the arena floor, her honey-blonde hair tied back. Krath enters from the opposite side, the massive minotaur's hooves creating small tremors with each step.
This is going to be interesting. Enhanced fury versus unyielding might.
[Announcer] "Begin!"
Aurelia doesn't wait. Golden light erupts around her body and she charges forward immediately. Krath plants his feet and raises his axe defensively.
Aurelia's fist slams into the flat of his blade. The impact sends a shockwave across the arena. Krath slides back several feet, his hooves digging trenches in the stone. He swings the axe in a wide horizontal arc. Aurelia ducks under it and delivers a palm strike to his ribs.
Krath barely flinches. His hide is too tough. Aurelia's golden light intensifies. She strikes again, faster this time. Multiple hits to the same spot. Krath tries to catch her with his axe, but she's already moved, circling around to attack from a different angle.
This is a battle of attrition. Can Aurelia's enhanced strength break through Krath's defense before she runs out of stamina?
Krath stops trying to hit her with his axe and instead uses it defensively, creating barriers with the wide blade while looking for openings. Aurelia feints left, then strikes right. Her fist connects with Krath's shoulder. He retaliates with a shield bash using the flat of his axe. Aurelia takes the hit head-on, absorbing most of the impact and recovering herself with healing magic.
They separate and circle each other.
I hear Liora calling out. She's making her way through the crowd toward us, carrying multiple wrapped cloth. She settles into an empty seat beside me and starts handing out bundles to everyone.
[Liora] "I thought everyone might be hungry. I got these from one of the food stalls."
Vesper starts eating right away while Eldrin, Seraphina, and Lucien thank her.
I unwrap mine to find skewers of grilled meat glazed with something sweet and savory, along with what looks like fried dough balls dusted with sugar.
[Wright] "Thanks, Liora. This is perfect."
[Liora] "How are the matches going?"
[Wright] "Incredible. This fight's just getting started."
I take a bite of the meat skewer. The glaze has a honey-sweetness with a hint of spice. The meat is tender, perfectly grilled. Really good.
On the arena floor, Aurelia and Krath have engaged again.
Krath swings his axe overhead. Aurelia doesn't dodge. She catches the blade with both hands, her golden light flaring bright enough to make me squint. She's reinforcing her grip, her arms, her entire body to withstand the force.
Krath pushes down with all his weight. Aurelia's knees bend slightly but she holds. Then she twists. The axe is redirected to the side, and Aurelia steps in close, too close for Krath to use his weapon effectively.
Her strikes come fast. Ribs, chest, arms, anywhere she can reach. Each hit enhanced by magic that pushes her body past normal limits. Krath tries to create distance, but Aurelia stays on him, relentless.
I eat another skewer, watching the exchange. The healing magic is interesting. Most people would use it defensively, to recover from damage. Aurelia uses it offensively, constantly refreshing her body so she can fight at peak performance without tiring.
Krath finally manages to push her back with a sweeping motion of his axe. He's breathing harder now. Even his incredible endurance has limits. Aurelia looks completely fresh. The golden glow around her hasn't diminished at all.
She charges again. Krath meets her head-on, axe swinging. They clash in the center of the arena as I try one of the fried dough balls. It's warm, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and the sugar gives it just the right amount of sweetness. Simple but delicious.
The impact of their clash creates a crater in the stone beneath their feet. They separate again. Both are adjusting their strategies. Krath realizes he can't outlast her. He needs to end this quickly. He goes on the offensive, his axe swings becoming faster, more aggressive.
Aurelia shifts from pure offense to a balanced approach, blocking and dodging while looking for openings to counter.
The battle intensifies. Each exchange is faster, harder, more precise than the last. Krath's axe comes down in an overhead chop with all his strength behind it. Aurelia sidesteps at the last second. The blade crashes into the arena floor, embedding deep.
Aurelia doesn't hesitate. She delivers a devastating punch to Krath's jaw while he's recovering from the swing. Krath's head snaps to the side. He staggers. Aurelia follows up with another strike to his chest, her golden aura blazing bright.
Krath goes down on one knee. Aurelia's fist is already glowing for the finishing blow.
[Krath] "...I yield."
[Announcer] "Winner! Aurelia!"
The crowd goes wild.
Aurelia's light fades. She helps Krath to his feet.
[Aurelia] "You're incredibly strong. I've never fought anyone with that kind of defense."
[Krath] "Your endurance is unmatched. I couldn't outlast you."
They walk off together, and the crowd continues cheering.
[Lucien] "An impressive display. Her use of healing magic for offensive enhancement is unconventional but effective."
[Seraphina] "Unconventional? It's brilliant! Why waste such magic only on recovery when you can use it to transcend your limits?"
[Eldrin] "The minotaur's strength was formidable. Most would have fallen to his first strike."
[Vesper] "I want to examine how she channels the healing magic. The conversion efficiency from recovery to enhancement must be remarkable."
[Liora] "She's going to win the whole tournament, isn't she?"
[Wright] "Maybe. There's still one more semifinal."
I finish the last skewer and move on to the remaining dough balls.

[Announcer] "Second semifinal match! Silvara versus Garrin!"
Silvara enters, her silver hair catching the light. Garrin follows, both hammers already glowing with earth magic.
[Announcer] "Begin!"
Garrin immediately takes control of the battlefield. He slams his hammers down and stone pillars erupt across the arena, creating cover and obstacles.
Silvara vanishes into shadow. She appears on top of one of the pillars, then dissolves again before Garrin can react. She's using the pillars he created as anchor points for her shadow magic, traveling between them instantly.
Garrin realizes his mistake. He collapses the pillars, returning the arena to a flat surface. Silvara emerges from her own shadow on the ground. Garrin is already moving, hammers swinging. She phases into shadow to avoid the strike, but Garrin anticipated it. His second hammer comes down where she's reforming. Silvara is forced to fully materialize to dodge, and Garrin presses the advantage.
His hammers glow brighter. Each swing creates shockwaves that disrupt the shadows around Silvara, making it harder for her to use her magic. Silvara adapts. Instead of trying to phase through his attacks, she uses shadow to enhance her mobility, sliding across the ground like liquid darkness to avoid his strikes.
The battle becomes a dance. Garrin's powerful, methodical swings versus Silvara's fluid, evasive movements. I'm about halfway through the dough balls when Silvara makes her move.
She creates a dome of shadow around herself. Garrin can't see inside it. He doesn't hesitate. Both hammers come down simultaneously on the dome.
The shadow shatters, but Silvara isn't inside. She's above him, having used the dome as a distraction to reposition. Shadow coalesces around her hands like claws. She drops toward Garrin's back. Garrin slams one hammer into the ground. A pillar of stone erupts directly beneath him, launching him upward to meet her attack.
They collide mid-air. Shadow versus stone. Both hit the ground hard and roll to their feet.
Garrin creates a wall of stone between them, buying time to reassess. Silvara dissolves into shadow and appears behind the wall. Garrin was ready for it. The wall explodes outward in all directions, stone fragments flying at high speed.
Silvara phases through some, dodges others, but a few catch her. She's forced fully solid to avoid serious injury. Garrin closes in. His hammers glow with enough earth magic to pulverize stone. Silvara's shadow erupts around her like a shield. The hammers hit the shadow barrier and the impact creates a massive shockwave.
Both fighters are pushed back as I finish the last dough ball and dust the sugar off my hands. This match is more technical than the first one. Both fighters are constantly adapting, constantly looking for openings.
Silvara tries a new approach. She uses shadow to grab chunks of broken stone from the arena floor and launches them at him. Garrin blocks with stone barriers, but it forces him to stay defensive. While he's focused on blocking, Silvara moves into position. Her shadow stretches across the ground, surrounding him.
Garrin notices too late. The shadow erupts upward from all sides, creating a cage. Silvara appears outside the cage, breathing hard. Maintaining that much shadow magic is draining her. Garrin doesn't panic. He channels earth magic through his hammers into the ground beneath him. The stone beneath the shadow cage becomes unstable, cracking and shifting. Silvara tries to maintain the cage, but the unstable foundation disrupts her magic.
Garrin breaks through with a powerful upward swing of both hammers. The shadow cage shatters. He doesn't give her time to recover. He closes the distance in three massive strides and swings both hammers in a pincer motion. Silvara phases into shadow to avoid them. But Garrin was counting on that. The moment she's intangible, he slams both hammers into the ground.
The entire arena floor becomes unstable, softening like quicksand. Silvara tries to reform, but the unstable ground disrupts her magic. She's forced to solidify in an awkward position. Garrin's hammer is already coming for her, glowing with concentrated earth magic. Silvara raises both hands, shadow magic condensing into a solid barrier at the last second.
The hammer hits the barrier. The barrier cracks but holds. Silvara uses the momentum to push herself away, sliding across the softened ground. Garrin hardens the ground again and pursues.
They're both getting tired now. Silvara's shadow magic is flickering. Garrin's movements are slightly slower.
Silvara makes one final gambit. She dissolves completely into shadow, spreading across the entire arena floor like a blanket of darkness. Garrin can't tell where she'll reform. He plants his feet and waits. Silvara rises from the shadow directly behind him, all her remaining magic condensed into her hands. Garrin spins. His hammer meets her shadow-clad strike.
The collision creates an explosion of dark and earth magic. When the dust clears, both fighters are on their knees. Garrin gets to his feet first. Both hammers are positioned at Silvara's throat before she can fully rise.
[Garrin] "Yield."
Silvara slumps slightly, then nods.
[Silvara] "I yield."
[Announcer] "Winner! Garrin!"
The crowd cheers as Garrin helps Silvara to her feet.
[Garrin] "Your shadow magic is remarkable. I've never fought anyone who could match my earth manipulation so well."
[Silvara] "You turned my own tactics against me. That unstable ground strategy was brilliant."
They walk off the arena floor together.
[Seraphina] "What elegance! The way she moved through those shadows was like watching a dance."
[Eldrin] "Both fighters demonstrated remarkable control over their respective elements."
[Lucien] "The dwarf's tactical awareness was excellent. He identified her pattern and exploited it."
[Wright] "The finals should be incredible. Aurelia's relentless offense versus Garrin's strategic defense."
---
The arena is being repaired for the final match. Magic flows across the damaged stone, smoothing cracks and filling craters.
The crowd's energy is at its peak. Everyone's on their feet, talking excitedly about the upcoming match.
[Announcer] "And now, the moment you've all been waiting for! The final match of the tournament! Aurelia versus Garrin!"
The crowd erupts.
Aurelia enters first, walking with that gentle, almost absentminded pace. But the moment she steps onto the arena floor, her expression sharpens.
Garrin follows, both hammers glowing with runic light. His face is set with determination.
[Announcer] "Fighters ready?"
Both nod.
[Announcer] "Begin!"
Neither moves immediately. They're both too experienced to rush in blindly.
Aurelia makes the first move. Golden light erupts around her and she charges forward. Garrin slams both hammers down. Stone pillars erupt between them, creating barriers. Aurelia doesn't slow down. She punches straight through the first pillar, shattering it. Then the second. Then the third.
Garrin uses that time to reposition, creating more barriers while moving to a better defensive position. Aurelia breaks through the last pillar and closes the distance. Her enhanced fist aims for Garrin's chest.
Garrin blocks with crossed hammers. The impact sends him sliding backward, but he maintains his stance. He retaliates with a sweeping strike. Aurelia ducks under it and delivers an uppercut. Garrin leans back just enough to avoid it, then brings both hammers down where Aurelia is standing. She rolls to the side. The hammers create a crater where she was a moment ago.
They separate and circle each other. Garrin creates more stone pillars, this time in a circular pattern around Aurelia, trying to box her in. Aurelia's golden light flares brighter. She jumps, clearing the pillars entirely, and comes down toward Garrin from above.
Garrin raises his hammers. Their clash mid-air creates a shockwave that cracks the nearby pillars. Aurelia lands, rolls, and immediately attacks again. She's not giving Garrin time to set up his defenses. Garrin stops trying to create elaborate structures and focuses on direct combat, using his hammers both offensively and defensively.
The battle becomes a brutal exchange. Aurelia's enhanced strikes versus Garrin's hammer techniques. Every time Aurelia lands a hit, her healing magic lets her attack again immediately without pause. Every time Garrin blocks or counters, his earth magic reinforces his position.
Neither can gain a decisive advantage.
Garrin tries to create distance. He softens the ground beneath Aurelia's feet. Aurelia uses the unstable ground to her advantage, sliding forward faster than running, and delivers a devastating punch that catches Garrin's shoulder. Garrin staggers but recovers quickly. He hardens the ground and creates stone spikes that erupt around Aurelia.
Aurelia's light blazes bright. She takes minor cuts from the spikes but pushes through, her body already healing the damage. She reaches Garrin and unleashes a flurry of strikes. Ribs, chest, arms, legs. Each hit enhanced by magic.
Garrin weathers the assault, his hammers blocking what they can. Then he creates a stone dome around himself, forcing Aurelia back. Aurelia doesn't wait for him to emerge. She starts punching the dome, each strike cracking the stone further.
Garrin drops the dome suddenly and swings both hammers from inside it, catching Aurelia off-guard. She barely dodges, the hammers roaring past so close the rush of air throws her hair sideways. Garrin presses forward. His hammers glow brighter with each swing, his earth magic reaching its peak. Aurelia's light matches his intensity, her body glowing like a golden beacon.
They clash again and again, neither giving ground.
Then Garrin changes tactics. The arena floor becomes a maze of pillars, walls, and platforms, all shifting and changing constantly. Aurelia has to focus on navigation while attacking, which slows her down.
Garrin uses the terrain to his advantage, attacking from unexpected angles, using the stone structures as both weapons and shields. It's working. Aurelia is forced on the defensive for the first time.
But then Aurelia changes her approach too. Instead of trying to navigate the maze, she destroys it. Every pillar, every wall, she smashes through like they're made of paper. Her healing magic lets her ignore the strain, pushing her body harder and harder. Garrin can't maintain the structures faster than she can destroy them. The battlefield becomes flat again.
Both fighters are breathing hard now. They've been fighting for several minutes at maximum intensity. Garrin creates one more stone wall, this time right in front of himself. Aurelia punches through it.
But Garrin isn't behind it. He used it as a distraction to reposition to her flank. Both hammers come at her from the side, glowing with concentrated earth magic. Aurelia can't dodge in time. She takes the hit. The impact sends her flying across the arena. She hits the ground hard and rolls.
The crowd gasps.
Aurelia gets to her feet. Her healing magic is already working on the damage. She looks more focused than ever. Garrin is ready for her counterattack. His hammers are positioned defensively. Aurelia charges. No strategy, no technique. Just raw power behind every strike.
Garrin blocks and parries, but the sheer relentless assault is pushing him back. His hammers are taking damage from the repeated impacts. The runic engravings are flickering. Aurelia sees the opening. She feints high, then strikes low.
Her fist connects with Garrin's knee. The earth magic reinforcing it cracks. Garrin's stance falters for just a moment. Aurelia doesn't let up. She delivers a palm strike to his chest with everything she has. Garrin flies backward. He tries to recover mid-air, but Aurelia is already there. Her final strike catches him square in the solar plexus. The safety barrier flashes bright.
[Announcer] "Winner! Aurelia! Champion of the tournament!"
The crowd explodes into cheers.
Aurelia's golden light fades. She's breathing hard, sweat dripping down her face.
She offers a hand to Garrin.
[Aurelia] "You almost had me. That hammer strike was perfect."
Garrin takes her hand and gets to his feet.
[Garrin] "Your endurance is beyond anything I've ever seen. Congratulations, champion."
They shake hands, and the crowd's cheers intensify.
---
I stand and stretch. That was an incredible final match. Both fighters gave it everything.
[Vesper] "That healing magic usage is remarkable. I wonder if other magic can be used in different ways as well."
[Liora] "She's amazing. I've never seen anyone fight like that."
[Eldrin] "Her application of healing magic is indeed revolutionary. Most healers never consider offensive applications."
Takeshi, Aiko, and Yuki make their way over to us, having been sitting in a different section.
[Takeshi] "Did you see that final exchange? That was insane!"
[Yuki] "I thought Garrin had it when he got that hammer strike in!"
[Aiko] "But Aurelia just kept going. Her healing magic is so powerful."
[Wright] "It's not just powerful, most healers support from the back line. She's strong enough to stand on the front line and use it on herself."
[Takeshi] "I want to fight her someday. To test myself against that kind of opponent."
[Wright] "Keep training like you have been and you will."
[Lucien] "A well-fought tournament. The final match was exceptional."
[Seraphina] "That dwarf's technique was exquisite. And it's obvious how hard the Saintess has trained. Healing alone wouldn't have been enough. The strength she showed breaking through was her own."
[Lucien] "Though I maintain that a proper defensive formation would have weathered her assault more effectively. His positioning left openings."
[Seraphina] "Everything is defense with you."
[Lucien] "Defense is the foundation of all combat."
[Seraphina] "So is instinct, yet you rarely allow it to guide you."
