Chapter 14 - Chapter 14 – Your True Mother

Lin Xiuran thought for a long while but still could not figure out who had saved him.

"That little girl is fine too."

Wu Zhangkong was naturally referring to Ouyang Zixin.

Lin Xiuran nodded. Her injuries were definitely worse than his. Although Wu Zhangkong's words were brief, if he said she was fine, then she must be.

Moreover, he shouldn't concern himself with these matters anymore. Regarding Ouyang Zixin, he shouldn't dwell on anything. Let the past grievances remain in the past.

"Thank you, Teacher Wu."

Wu Zhangkong didn't respond, only glanced at him, and then said, "I'll go buy you something to eat."

After saying that, he didn't linger and walked straight toward the door.

Shortly after Wu Zhangkong left, a nurse entered and performed a brief check-up on Lin Xiuran.

It was clear she had been instructed by Wu Zhangkong.

The nurse was a young woman. After checking him, she quietly asked, "Little brother, who is that adult to you? He seems to care for you a lot."

Lin Xiuran was slightly startled but explained, "He's a teacher at our academy."

"A teacher, huh?" The nurse nodded slightly, then said, "These past two days, he's been taking care of you, running back and forth. He really is responsible."

As she spoke, stars appeared in her eyes—clearly another girl dazzled by Wu Zhangkong's appearance.

Lin Xiuran noticed too. With Wu Zhangkong's looks, he was undoubtedly at male-god level. Attracting girls was simple.

But Lin Xiuran's attention wasn't on that. He hadn't expected Wu Zhangkong to personally care for him for two days.

He had been rescued, yet Wu Zhangkong could have notified Ye Yingluo instead, avoiding the need to stay with him for two days.

Wu Zhangkong, after all, was a teacher of the Zero Class, very busy every day. With his personality, it was unlikely he would casually care for a stranger for two whole days.

"Oh, right. If anything happens, make sure to ask your teacher to call me," the nurse said seriously before leaving.

Lin Xiuran shook his head helplessly. It must be a little troublesome for Wu Zhangkong as well.

Just as the nurse left, an unexpected guest arrived.

Lin Xiuran initially thought it was Wu Zhangkong returning, but seeing the visitor, his eyes sharpened. "What? Couldn't do it in secret, so you come openly? Head of the Xu Family!"

Xu Junwen was slightly stunned, then sighed and explained, "The clan elder wants to see you."

"The clan elder wants to see me? I will, of course, pay my respects, but Head of the Xu Family, understand this: the elder is your senior. Do not think you can use him to trick me somewhere else." Lin Xiuran was ruthless. To someone who had threatened his life, he had nothing to say.

Naturally, he didn't fear Xu Junwen. If Xu Junwen wanted to act, Lin Xiuran could easily resist. But he knew Xu Junwen well. East Sea City wasn't his sole domain; Xu Junwen would not dare act recklessly here, as he valued his position.

Xu Junwen was silent for a moment, locking eyes with Lin Xiuran stubbornly. In his years of high status, he carried an unquestionable authority that usually suppressed juniors. But today, Lin Xiuran's steadfast gaze weakened his aura.

He seemed to realize his mistake—dragging old grudges onto the younger generation wasn't right, especially since Lin Xiuran had been like a son to him all these years.

Somewhere behind, Wu Zhangkong had returned, silently leaning by the door, eyes critically examining Xu Junwen.

Xu Junwen sensed the icy, piercing gaze behind him, sending a chill down his spine. Wu Zhangkong, for some reason, seemed hostile toward him, and his aura pressed down heavily.

Feeling the pressure, Xu Junwen knew he couldn't stay and muttered, "The clan elder is also hospitalized."

"What happened to the clan elder?"

Lin Xiuran's eyes instantly changed. He tried to throw off the covers and get up, but his body felt as if it was breaking apart.

He had been gravely injured and only received treatment for two days. His body was still weak, unable to withstand such sudden movement.

Wu Zhangkong appeared beside him, coldly ordering, "Lie down."

There was no room for argument. Lin Xiuran could barely move; even if he wanted to resist, his body wouldn't allow it.

At that moment, the sound of wheels rolling came from the door. A burly man pushed the clan elder into the room in a wheelchair.

"Clan elder! What—?" Lin Xiuran was shocked. He hadn't expected this. Just two days ago, the elder had seemed so strong, the strongest warrior of the Xu Family. And now, in only two days, he was in a wheelchair.

"It's nothing, nothing at all. My body is just like this," the elder shook his head, then looked at Xu Junwen.

Xu Junwen understood and quietly exited the room.

The elder turned to Wu Zhangkong respectfully, "Sir, perhaps you should step aside."

Wu Zhangkong gave him face, only glancing at Lin Xiuran before leaving the room.

Inside, only Lin Xiuran and the clan elder remained.

Sunlight still shone brightly outside. The elder now showed a gentle smile.

"Child, you've suffered." The elder's smile was warm, but seeing his injuries, he felt pained.

Lin Xiuran shook his head, his gaze tinged with sorrow. After being treated so harshly, how could he feel happy? Even after so many years, despite their father-son bond, he never imagined the other would attempt to kill him.

The elder sighed helplessly. "Child, I'll be straightforward. You are not actually a child of the Xu Family. With your intelligence, you've likely guessed this."

"I guessed," Lin Xiuran said with a bitter smile. If he were truly a biological child, how could there be favoritism or assassination attempts?

The elder stroked his long white beard and recalled, "I won't speak of other things today. I want to tell you a story… a story about your mother."

"My mother? Mine?"

Lin Xiuran's eyes dulled. The term felt unfamiliar. His nominal Xu mother had never cared for him; naturally, there was no story with her.

So this mother… could it be…

"Yes, your true mother," the elder nodded. His expression darkened slightly, as if some truths were difficult to speak.

"I must say… the Xu Family wronged your mother."
