Chapter 13 - CHAPTER 13:FIRES OF THE PAST

The city was quiet, but for Ethan, silence never felt peaceful. The streets reflected the aftermath of his decisions—the smoldering ruins of his family's estate, the ashes of a life he had chosen to leave behind. He walked alongside Damien, the heat of the fire licking at the edges of the horizon, illuminating the smoke that curled around their silhouettes.

Ethan's chest was tight, his fingers clenching and unclenching as he stared at the burning remnants. "I… I still can't believe I did it," he murmured, voice barely audible over the crackle of fire.

Damien's hand found his, squeezing it firmly. "You chose me," he said simply, eyes steady on Ethan's. "Everything else doesn't matter."

Ethan swallowed hard, the taste of ash and adrenaline heavy in his mouth. "But… the people I left behind… my family… everything is gone."

"You didn't leave me behind," Damien replied, his voice soft but unyielding. "And neither did you leave yourself behind. That's what counts."

Ethan let out a bitter laugh, shaking his head. "I can't… I can't believe I'm standing here with you, after everything."

Damien leaned closer, brushing a hand over Ethan's cheek. "Then don't believe it. Just… feel it."

The intensity in Damien's gaze made Ethan's knees weak. He wanted to argue, to put up walls—but there were none left. Not here. Not now. All that remained were their hearts, racing and raw.

Ethan's fingers traced the contours of Damien's jaw, memorizing every line, every angle, as if burning the memory into his mind. Damien leaned into the touch, letting out a quiet sigh. It was the first real moment of peace they had shared since the chaos began.

"I don't want this night to end," Ethan whispered, his voice trembling. "I… I want you, Damien. I want all of you."

Damien's eyes darkened, a mix of tenderness and hunger flickering in them. "Then take me," he said simply, guiding Ethan closer. "I've been waiting for you to say it."

They moved together, hearts pounding, the firelight casting shadows over their bodies as they surrendered to desire and need. Damien's hands roamed with confidence, pulling Ethan close, and Ethan melted into him, letting go of every fear, every restraint. In the heat of the moment, the world outside ceased to exist—the chaos, the revenge, the past—all of it disappeared into the flames behind them.

The night stretched on, intimate and raw, their connection deepening with every touch, every whispered word, every stolen breath. Damien led, Ethan followed, and together they became the only reality that mattered.

Morning came with a stark clarity. Ethan awoke alone, Damien's side of the bed cold. Panic fluttered in his chest, but he pushed it down, reminding himself of his purpose. He had promised to take revenge for Damien—to ensure that no one would ever hurt the man he loved again.

Ethan dressed quietly, slipping out into the streets. The city was calm now, but danger still lingered in the shadows. He moved with purpose, tracking the remnants of enemies, tying loose ends, leaving nothing to chance.

Hours later, Damien found him amidst the wreckage of the last of Ethan's family's enemies. Ethan's expression was grim, but there was a fire in his eyes—a resolve that refused to be broken. "I… I finished," he said, voice heavy but steady.

Damien stepped forward, placing a hand on Ethan's shoulder. "You don't have to carry it alone anymore," he said softly. "I'm here."

Ethan let out a shuddering breath, finally allowing himself to collapse into Damien's arms. "I will let the world burn for you," he whispered, his voice filled with fierce devotion.

Together, they walked away from the flames, leaving the ashes of the past behind. Smoke curled in the sky, a final reminder of everything they had endured—and everything they had survived.

Hand in hand, heart in heart, they stepped into a new dawn. The city stretched before them, quiet but alive, a canvas for the life they would now build together. And for the first time in a long time, Ethan felt… free.

Damien leaned close, brushing his lips against Ethan's temple. "Let's start over," he whispered. "Just you and me."

Ethan smiled, a weight lifting from his shoulders. "Just us," he agreed, turning to face the rising sun. The world could burn, the past could haunt, but with Damien by his side, he was ready to face anything.
