Although the move was called Ember, describing it as a fireball was more accurate.

After receiving the command from Ash Ketchum, his Charmander opened its mouth wide and spat out a blazing fireball straight at its opponent.

Sam's expression didn't change at all.

The power of the Ember didn't seem weak, but its speed was far too slow. There was no way such an attack could hit his Charmander.

Just as Sam expected, Charmander remained calm. The moment the fireball was about to connect, it moved.

Pushing off the ground hard with its left foot, it used the recoil to shift its body and cleanly dodged the attack.

But it didn't stop there.

Using its legs, Charmander burst forward, charging straight at its opponent.

At that moment, the results of Sam's special training were fully revealed. Charmander's movements were flexible and explosive, closing the distance in an instant.

The enemy was suddenly right in front of him.

Ash hadn't even had time to react.

"Charmander, Slash."

At Sam's command, Charmander's claws glowed white as it swung forward. The sharp claws struck the opponent's vital area with brutal precision.

"No—don't use Slash, Charmander!!!"

Ash shouted only after snapping back to his senses—but it was already too late.

At such close range, there was no way Sam's Charmander could miss.

If that claw landed directly, the damage would be devastating.

Seeing Ash's Charmander knocked out instantly, Brock immediately understood—the battle was over.

At that distance, even Ash's Charmander couldn't withstand such a heavy blow.

"How is that possible?!"

Ash stared at his Charmander, which had completely lost its ability to fight, his mind blank.

Since capturing it, Charmander had never lost a single battle. It had helped Ash defeat many opponents along the way—yet now it had fallen in just one strike.

Ash couldn't accept it.

His whole body seemed to deflate, all energy draining away.

Sam's task was done.

Now it was Brock and Misty's turn.

"Ash."

Brock's tone was far more serious than usual.

"Do you understand your own strength now? You're still far from being qualified. Becoming a true Trainer isn't as simple as you think."

"Brock's right," she added bluntly. "Take a good look at yourself. How long has it been since you trained properly? Even someone as strong as Sam trains every single day. What right do you have to slack off?"

For once, Brock and Misty didn't comfort Ash after his defeat. Instead, they criticized him harshly, clearly dissatisfied with his recent attitude.

"Brock… Misty… I know I was wrong."

After losing so decisively to Sam, Ash finally faced reality. Only then did he realize how much he had let himself drift.

"Sam, I won't give up like this! Next time—next time I'll definitely beat you!!!"

"I'll be waiting," Sam replied with a smile.

This refusal to give up—that was the Ash he knew.

"Special training! Special training starts right now!" Ash shouted, turning to Pikachu.

"Pikachu!"

"Wait."

Sam stopped him and pointed toward the lighthouse not far away.

"That's Professor Bill's lighthouse. Don't you want to go take a look?"

"Professor Bill?!"

Ash might not have recognized the name, but Brock and Misty did. They exclaimed in surprise at the same time.

Ash scratched his head. "Is Professor Bill famous?"

Brock and Misty didn't bother explaining to someone who only cared about battling. They simply grabbed Ash and dragged him toward the lighthouse.

"Doesn't this place feel kind of scary?" Misty whispered nervously.

"There shouldn't be any danger… probably," Sam replied, not sounding entirely confident himself.

If he didn't know for sure this was Bill's lighthouse, he might have mistaken it for a haunted house.

The run-down structure and dark atmosphere made it impossible not to overthink things.

"What are you all standing around for? Let's go in!"

Ash, completely fearless, pushed the door open and walked straight inside.

Brock and Misty exchanged glances, then followed him in helplessly.

At this point, all they could do was pray that Bill was kind enough to forgive them for entering without permission.

Sam, however, wasn't worried at all.

He knew very well that their arrival wouldn't anger Bill—in fact, it would earn his gratitude.

Right now, Bill desperately needed their help.
