Chapter 5 - A Daydreamer (1)

"Sir, we have just received another batch of slaves."

"Good, are they resting?"

"Yes sir."

"Hhmm, that's not a problem for now but get them working as soon as you can."

The lieutenant said while looking up at the sky, taking in the beautiful view.

"Yes sir."

"You may leave."

"Yes, sir!"

Match! Match!

Star and the other slaves matched and were approaching the camp worksite which was obviously the Temple.

Ten minutes after Star and the rest of slaves were done eating their food, they were taken to the worksite to begin their work.

Dust and debris flew everywhere.

Star was still very tired but at least now he had food on his belly.

'whatever, let's just get this over with.'

Star and the others reached the work place. They were now heading inside the huge Temple.

"REMEMBER! ALL YOU SLAVES ARE FREE TO ATTEMPT ESCAPE."

Glancing around, Star saw many slaves working to deaths.

There was a big bald slave who had a huge scar on his face that carried a miniature giant rock on a wheelbarrow.

There was also a thin slave who had a huge sac filled to brim at his back.

"Ahhuhh."

The slave wavered before falling head on to the ground. All the goods on sac scattered and spilled on the cold ground.

Some of the goods fell on the slave, the slave was injured but he didn't even look at himself and started packing all the goods in his sac.

Panicking.

A guard on patrol walk over to the scrabbling slave and stopped.

"Look at what do we have here?"

The weak old slave shivered.

"A slave laying around, resting. Resting on the Sun Kingdom's property, on King Heron's property like it was nothing, like the King I serve with my life means nothing.

The old man quickly got on his knees, he bent his upper body and began rubbing his two hands and wailed apologetically.

"Am sorry, am sorry, am sorry, am sorry, pleeeasse have mercy master."

The old man started crying.

"Forgive this ignorant and impudent slave."

"What has the Kingdom ever done to you to warrant such a treatment? We fed you, we kept you alive, we gave you a home! Just so you could do some little work for us. And yet, you betrayed us like this."

"Am sorry, am so sorry...."

Star looked away, he didn't want to see anymore. It wasn't a pleasant view and also wasn't something new.

The guards and their stupid drama, always trying to find excuses to torture slaves to feel superior and to get rid of their boredom.

Star and his fellow slaves were taken inside the Temple.

"Take out every valuable thing you can find."

Said one the soldiers that brought them.

"Do not try to hide or steal anything or would be tortured and killed, not that I care about your miserable lives."

Golden ornaments hung around the Temple, which mostly had been taken down. The floors were painted silver and the walls ashen black.

There was a gigantic tomb that rested at the center of the Temple.

Star came closer to the tomb, there was sculpted drawing on the face of the tombstone, he slid his hands on the smooth surface of the tombstone.

"Ouch."

An area of the tombstone cut Star's finger.

Star stared at his injured hand.

'the injury is a bit deep, but nothing I can't handle.'

Heading towards the direction of the campfire was our little old lonely Star.

Star arrived at the camp for the slaves and immediately sat on the cold hard ground, not so far from the camp fire.

The camp was a make-shift camp built by the slaves and obviously had no tent. The whole thing was more a gathering amongst slaves around a fire than an actual camp.

"Sigh."

He took a deep breath.

It was finally time to rest and sleep.

It was already night time and the slaves had stopped working. Doing night jobs were detrimental to the health of the slaves and would bring more harm than good.

It would also slow things down with the slaves, and that was not beneficial.

So they were allowed to rest.

Star looked up at the beautiful night sky. The golden stars and sun were gone by now but Star had no problem with that, he was even thankful.

He was a night lover, one of the main reasons was obviously because that was the only time he was allowed to rest.

The only time he got to sleep to his satisfaction with mostly zero disturbance. His only time of peace.

Some of the slaves were like him, who use the time to rest and recuperate while the other slaves used it to engage in 'activities' that will make feel joy and forget their sorrows.

To be precise, to forget the fact that they were still slaves and might be slaves for the rest of their lives

Anyway, it was time for Star's activity.

Star lay on the snowy ground and started....

Daydreaming.

He closed his eyes.

Star loved daydreaming. It was the only thing that kept him alive and going all these years as a slave, though it was more of a hobby than an activity because he loved doing it.

It was his only form of escapism.

Star was a full time daydreamer, he daydreamt every single day not almost.

In this cold hard merciless world his imagination was the only place he could find...

Happiness.

Star could laugh in his dreams but he could not laugh in the real world.

What was there to laugh about??

Poverty? suffering? Or was it slavery?

Star lived in a shallow world, a world full of betrayal and disappointment.

A world where you don't know who to trust.

A world where people disappoint you.

A world....where you are a slave.

Tell me who would want to live in such a world, definitely not Star.
