Chapter 7 - Chapter 7

"I know this sounds weird, but there are a lot of people and spirits who need the kind of help I offer. If you are still up for it, you can join me. I am still looking for a bodyguard." Kian finished, watching Xal carefully.

Behind his rigid posture and narrowed gaze, his eyes and brain felt overloaded. His words reached his ears, but most did not make it into his brain. Suddenly, everything went sideways, and he slammed his hand on the nearby table to steady himself.

Only then did Kian seem to notice that something was wrong with him. Xal saw Kian moving his fingers to his mouth, holding them there for a few seconds before he started walking towards him.

As soon as he noticed the action, he stepped back. That slight movement worsened the pain behind his eyes and intensified, feeling as if the stars exploded in his skull. He should get away from this lunatic.

"No… stay the fuck back, or you are dead!" He threatened, partly hoping he would comply, and that would give him some chance to get away. Fighting was not an option when his body was this weak.

But what's next? He can't even think straight.

Surprisingly, on command, he stopped midway. Xal desperately blinked, pressed his fingers to his eyes as he backed away, almost bumping into someone.

"Yup… definitely not the best idea I have had," Kian said, face-palming.

He spoke out, "Listen, I… uh…the vision I gave you seems to be too much. Let me take it back, and everything will look normal again."

He reached for him once again.

One thing Xal had been proud of himself for was his keen sense of danger. This was a textbook yet an amateur attempt at kidnapping for god knows what.

He thought the drugs were not just causing hallucinations and weakening his body, but also dulling his senses because, all this time, he had not felt any danger from this man when he was supposed to.

Blaming his malfunctioning senses, Xal smacked his hand away with the energy he could muster and backed up.

He realized too late that it was the wrong move. The world started spinning, darkness seeping in from the edges of his vision, and his limbs gave up.

The last thing he saw was Kian's seemingly worried face closing in, and then it went completely black.
