Chapter 51 - Chapter 46: The Organization, The Poison, and the Shrine

[AUTHOR NOTE: Thanks to Jandro123 for giving me tip on Gumroad.]

Tropical Land Amusement Park

A brave kid.

But that's all he was.

Gin, a stern man with silver hair dressed in black, looked at his partner, Vodka, and gave a newly developed drug—APTX-4869—to the boy who had fainted on the ground.

Gin recognized him.

Shinichi Kudo.

A high school detective who was well-known in the country as the "Savior of the Police Force."

Gin happened to arrive in Tokyo from overseas to conduct a deal. He happened to pass by an amusement park where a murder happened. And he happened to be blocked by police officers inside the park.

Later, it happened that this high school detective noticed something strange about their transaction.

It was a trivial matter to silence him.

It would be a good idea to try the newly developed poison. It was untraceable in autopsies.

"Let's go. There are people from the Metropolitan Police Department everywhere. We can't stay long."

Vodka, a simple-minded but loyal member of the Organization with above-average marksmanship and killer skills, nodded.

However, Vodka didn't quite understand Big Brother's orders.

He was obviously going to test the effect of the poison, but he left in a hurry without confirming the death. What was the point of feeding him the poison if we don't watch him die?

But he wouldn't refute Big Brother. With a simple mind, he believed that Big Brother must have his own deep considerations for this move.

Mizunotsuki Residence

Similarly, Seiran Mizunotsuki couldn't understand the brain circuits of the "Fake Wine Organization" (The Black Organization).

It always felt like the members of the Organization were basically a group of psychopaths with abnormal thinking.

On a hot summer day, while others wore short sleeves, they were wrapped in thick black trench coats for fear of revealing any skin.

Moreover, all members were equipped with black clothes and black hats, and they always had a gloomy look with only half of their faces exposed.

In any normal situation, if you dared to dress like this, you would be thoroughly investigated by the police immediately.

Suspicious.

Very suspicious.

But the police officers dispatched by the Metropolitan Police Department didn't think there was any problem at all.

Perhaps it was because in this chaotic era, weird dressers were the least of their worries. With the rise of supernatural rumors and the constant eccentricities found in a metropolis like Tokyo, a few grim men in black coats didn't stand out as much as they should have.

Furthermore, the police were currently overwhelmed. The First Rule of the Metropolitan Police Department Training Manual had recently become: Focus on the supernatural; ignore the mundane unless necessary.

Listening to Miwako Sato complaining about the various bizarre affairs of the Metropolitan Police Department, Seiran just took it as fun entertainment.

But...

"It's going to rain..."

Yumi Miyamoto was slightly stunned, looking out the window.

The weather was unpredictable.

It was sunny just now, but now the sky was covered with dark clouds. The darkened sky made the city look like it was almost dusk.

What good weather…

Seiran said with emotion.

Since the timing is right…

Let's get started.

Inside the Porsche 356A

"Tsk… this damn weather. Aniki (Big Brother), are you okay?"

Vodka never forgot to show his loyalty to Gin. Because he was a good brother.

The senior members of the Organization—the Cadres—all had code names based on liquor.

Vodka originally did not have the qualifications for a code name. It was Gin who helped him gain enough merit to barely earn the title of "Vodka."

Gin gave a grunt of acknowledgment.

This little brother and driver was very useful. He had decent abilities and was absolutely loyal. He was just a little stupid.

But these were just minor problems.

For Gin, loyalty was the most important thing in the Organization.

Staring at the sky, he realized they probably couldn't go out to sea today for the next transaction.

But…

With a frown on his face, the unfamiliar area outside the window made Gin a little suspicious.

"Vodka, stop the car."

"Yes!"

The two got out of the car. Gin glanced at Vodka, who was scratching his head in confusion.

"Didn't you say we were going to the hotel?"

"...That's right, Big Brother. The GPS says this is the location of the most luxurious hotel in the area."

Sure enough.

Is his brain not working well, or is there something wrong with the navigation?

Gin's sight silently moved to a place not far away.

It was a shrine.

Itsukushima Shrine, located near the sea.

Even on holidays, not many people came here. It was sparsely populated, and only the occasional priests passing by gave the place any sign of life.

Itsukushima Shrine…

Gin knew about the anecdotes regarding the rich and powerful that had happened a few days ago involving this place.

As for the "Noble Families" (like the Hanakaiin), many people in the underground world regarded them as a joke.

Because the main bodies of many industrial enterprises in Japan are almost transparent to the upper-level people. Everyone knows the composition of the power structure. Where would the soil for a secret "Noble Family" come from?

If you were really a Noble Family, you would have to be larger than a Zaibatsu, right? And such a size cannot be concealed in modern society.

But without such a size, what kind of "Noble Family" are you?

So Gin had a skeptical impression of Itsukushima Shrine, the unlucky victim of that internet drama.

"Hello! Are you foreigners? Welcome to Itsukushima Shrine."

Yoshitomi Kamo's Son approached them with a friendly smile.

"No, we are just looking for a hotel to stay in."

"Hotel? That's really a coincidence. Our Itsukushima Shrine is currently providing free accommodation to tourists to boost our reputation. You just need to pay for food. Why don't you stay here?"

Gin looked at the person in front of him with a hidden, scrutinizing gaze.

Then he evaluated the location.

It's near the coast, not too far from the port. Good for an escape route.

So Gin agreed.

Passing through the water approach like a cursory tourist, Gin had no mood to appreciate the scenery of the shrine.

The sky was getting darker.

Gin and his partner were taken to the guest rooms behind the Shrine Office.

Itsukushima Shrine had made a lot of efforts to save this dying business. Accommodation for tourists was one of their desperate measures.

Ever since Yoshitomi Kamo scolded his son, the son gave up on his greedy money-making schemes. Instead, he began to use his remaining power to fight for free accommodation for tourists to attract traffic.

Observing the layout of the room, it was not luxurious, but at least it was neat and clean.

Gin was not picky.

Because the Organization was actually not very rich.

Or rather, the funding for field agents was not abundant. This was probably one of the reasons why there were so many traitors ("Fake Liquors") in the Organization.

A few hundred dollars a mission... what's the point of risking your life for that?

At night.

Gin followed his habit and began to secretly patrol the perimeter to check for any potential danger.

As a Black Organization spanning many countries, he didn't know how many people were looking forward to exchanging his head for a bounty.

Instructing Vodka to guard the room, Gin himself wandered around the shrine like a ghost.

But the shrine was silent at night, and no one was around.

Only white paper lanterns for exorcism hung on the corners of the eaves, swaying in the wind.

It seemed there was nothing unusual.

Maybe he was overthinking. After all, there were not many bold kids like Shinichi Kudo in the world.

When passing the area where the High-Ranking Clergy lived, Gin lost interest in wandering.

Just as he was about to go back to rest, his keen hearing detected something.

"Sorry… Hey… Your Excellency… Nothing can be done…"

"Daddy… God's Kingdom… Diary…"

"Treasures… Rituals… True or False…"

The intermittent volume forced Gin to get closer to listen.

But he could only hear a quick rustling sound, like someone frantically searching through papers.

Gin became interested.

The reason was the word "Treasure" that he thought he heard.

Treasure?

Touching his somewhat light wallet, Gin became very interested in the so-called "Treasure" of the Shrine.
