Roles Reversed
A shadow flickered against the blue steel of the shipping container above them.
Ethan had been looking up, his vantage point from the ground giving him a split-second warning she didn't have. Before she could register the danger or swing her weapon upward, Ethan lunged forward. His hands locked onto her shoulders, and with a burst of desperate strength, he violently tackled her out of the drop zone.
An instant later, the driver crashed down right where she had been standing, the heavy iron crowbar striking the concrete with a deafening, metallic CLANG that sent sparks flying.
The force of Ethan's tackle sent them both rolling across the gritty asphalt of the docks. Her gun slipped from her grip, skittering across the pavement and coming to a rest feet away, just out of reach.
The driver didn't waste a second. Snarling in frustration, he pivoted, hoisting the iron bar over his shoulder to finish what he started, his eyes locked onto her as she tried to scramble back to her feet.
But Ethan wasn't letting him close the distance. Springing up from the deck, Ethan intercepted the man mid-stride, grabbing the driver's wrists to keep the blunt weapon from coming down. The two men collided heavily against the side of the wrecked SUV, locked in a brutal struggle for control of the iron bar.
"Get the gun!" Ethan roared, his muscles straining as he tried to hold back the larger man.
Ethan bought her the ultimate window of opportunity. Does she scramble for her weapon to end the fight, or find another way to take down the driver before he overcomes Ethan?
