I never thought a single day could turn my world upside down, but today proved me wrong.
I was running late for my new part-time job at the corporate office downtown, my bag swinging awkwardly on one shoulder. The city was busy as usual, cars honking and people rushing past me, but somehow, I managed to trip over my own feet and almost fall flat on the sidewalk.
By some miracle, I made it inside the glass doors of SilverStar Enterprises without causing a scene. Panting, I straightened my shirt and tried to calm my racing heart. Today was my first day as an assistant in the company, and I wanted everything to be perfect.
As I stepped into the lobby, my eyes were immediately drawn to the man standing near the reception desk. He was tall, impeccably dressed in a sharp suit, and his presence seemed to fill the room. Dark hair, piercing eyes, and a faint, mysterious smile that made it impossible to look away.
"Excuse me," I muttered to the receptionist, "I am here for the assistant position."
She nodded politely and directed me to the elevator. As I waited for the doors to close, the man's gaze suddenly locked with mine. My stomach dropped. It was like he could see straight through me, as if he already knew everything.
The elevator dinged, and I stepped out into the office floor. My heart was still racing when my supervisor appeared to take me to my desk. But just as I turned the corner, I heard a voice that made my blood run cold.
"Ah, so you are the new girl," the deep, smooth voice said. I froze. It was him, the mysterious man from the lobby.
Before I could respond, he smiled faintly and added, "I have been expecting you."
And just like that, I realized my life was about to change forever.
