Chapter 18 - Chapter 17: Equipment and Purpose

Krauser, who was already standing behind the podium, saw all the students walk up the steps and sit down in order, and then solemnly said

"My friends, when you joined Atlas and learned that the boss was an immortal being and that there were spatial gates that could lead to other universes of Earth, your knowledge and understanding were impacted, even collapsed, and I was no exception.

The fact that you are sitting here today means that you are ready to step into the unknown for the company, for the boss, and even for all of humanity.

As investigators, you must always be aware of your responsibilities and maintain absolute loyalty and rationality.

But don't forget, your lives don't just belong to yourselves or your families, but also to the company.

That's why I train you extremely rigorously, giving you exceptional physical qualities and combat skills. Only by surviving can you realize your full potential.

In other words, you are all important assets to the company."

At this point, Krauser paused deliberately, and then two other instructors, also former U.S. Special Forces personnel and now training investigators, walked up the steps.

The two instructors were either opening equipment boxes and picking something up, or assembling mannequins to test the extent of damage. The mannequins had realistic bones, blood, and organs, but the skin and muscles were made of transparent silicone.

Soon, a mannequin dressed in a suit and tie appeared before everyone.

Krauser also chimed in at the opportune moment "Of all the factors that increase your chances of survival, skill, experience, and luck play a significant role. These are all dominated by you and your environment, and no one else can influence them."

"but..."

As he spoke, Krauser left the podium, took a P90 submachine gun from an instructor, and walked to a position five meters away from the mannequin in the suit, with the muzzle of the gun pointing away from the layer of seats and towards the wall.

Krauser turned off the safety latch.

Aim at the torso.

Krauser immediately pulled the trigger.

tatt-tatt-tatt

Thud!

With the crisp, piercing sound of rapid fire gunfire, even the mannequin supported by a support frame could not withstand the impact and fell backward to the ground.

But Krauser had no intention of stopping.

Krauser adjusted the shooting angle and posture, switched the fire selector to full automatic, and then...

tatt-tatt-tatt

In the blink of an eye, Krauser quickly emptied the 50-round magazine, filling the conference room with smoke and the acrid smell of gunpowder.

After finishing the shooting, Krauser turn on the safety feature, placed the P90 on the podium, and the two instructors quickly stepped forward to help the fallen dummy up and even undressed the dummy.

Leon and the trainees, who were initially confused, immediately understood that their instructor was demonstrating equipment when they saw the dummy stand up again and remove its wrinkled suit and vest.

While the dummy's condition was far from ideal for example, bleeding under the silicone skin indicated bruising and swelling from blunt force trauma, and the torso and limbs showed either bone cracks or fractures the vital organs remained largely intact.

In other words, if a real person were wearing that suit, they would very likely have survived the P90's barrage of fire.

Having completed the analysis, all the trainees, including Leon, were incredibly excited and overwhelmed with emotion.

Despite being a submachine gun, the P90 uses 5.7x28mm ammunition with a muzzle velocity of approximately 650m/s. Its pointed tip and armor plating all point to its extremely strong penetrating power.

It can penetrate a steel helmet at a distance of 150 meters, at least 48 layers of Kevlar at 50 meters, and even 3.5 millimeters of standard steel plate at 30 meters.

Of course, this data is not enough when compared to the 5.56x45mm rifle cartridge, and there are problems such as the difference in velocity at long distances due to the lighter bullet.

But those were no problem at all for Leon and his group.

You know, that was just a suit! A suit that can absorb and tank most gunfire.

Suits are suitable for most occasions. They are not too eye catching and greatly increase the chances of survival if one's identity is exposed and forced into a gunfight.

Moreover, the suit's style and design perfectly aligned with their aesthetic preferences, balancing refined appearance and strong defensive capabilities, making it an exceptional suit of armor.

Seemingly aware of the trainees inner thoughts, Krauser returned to the podium and said, "However, the company still has ways to intervene in external factors.

For example, the bulletproof camouflage suit worn on the test dummies has proven its effectiveness, as you have all seen. It can easily withstand 5.7x28mm rounds, and its protection level, assessed according to the NIJ (National Institute of Justice) standards, is at least Level 3, barely reaching Level 4.

But I wouldn't recommend wearing it to yell at guys with AKs, 'Come at me if you dare!' Otherwise, you'll face the consequences.

Ha ha!"

Krauser, who usually presented himself as rigid and stern, rarely told a dry joke, which made the trainees pause for a moment before bursting into laughter.

The atmosphere was somewhat lively, but Krauser lips curled into a slight smile, indicating that he was in a good mood.

Perhaps because this group of students was about to graduate, he did not issue a silence order.

After the laughter subsided, he continued, "The camouflage suits were specially designed and developed by the company's research and development department for the investigators. It seems to be made of some kind of carbon nanofiber or carbon nanopaper... Anyway, it's an artificial material that's not available on the market

A suit is the basic style, theoretically, there are multiple styles, but only if your rating reaches the elite level. And from what I understand, the manufacturing cost of just the basic style exceeds $100,000."

Upon hearing this, all the trainees were slightly shocked, not expecting that the price of that bulletproof suit was equivalent to a house and a supercar.

"Don't worry" This was already commonplace for Krauser, as the company had always been generous with its weapons and equipment. "Not only will you receive camouflage suits, but when you officially become investigators, the company will also give you sunglasses with HUD displays, ultra-thin individual computers, and other equipment.

As I mentioned before, you are all extremely important assets to the company. Your primary goal is to survive and successfully complete your mission. The company will fully support you and spare no effort.

As for money?

Atlas has no shortage of cash, so there's no need to worry. The company will always be your support. But don't forget, everything is built on your absolute loyalty to the company and the boss. If you betray them..."

Krauser abruptly changed the subject, scanning all the trainees before saying in a calm yet cold tone, "The company will relentlessly hunt you down until you become corpses.

Also, let me remind you again, there are rumors within the company that the boss can read minds, so don't try to deceive him or take any chances, understand?"

"Yes, sir!"
