The Sovereign Hall was still humming with the afterglow of her ascension when the first tremor hit.
It was subtle at first—just a faint vibration beneath the obsidian floor, like the world clearing its throat. Lira barely noticed it. She was still adjusting to the weight of the throne beneath her, the mana crown settling around her like a living halo.
Eli stood at her left, posture straight but eyes soft.
Cael stood at her right, arms crossed, gaze sharp and alert.
Arienne hovered nearby, her spectral form brighter than ever.
Riven lingered in the shadows, watching her with that unreadable half‑smile.
Everything felt… right.
Balanced.
Whole.
Until the tremor came again.
Stronger.
This time, the floating mana orbs flickered.
Lira straightened. "Did you feel that?"
Cael's hand went to the hilt of his mana‑blade. "Yes."
Eli scanned the hall. "It's not structural. It's… external."
Arienne's glow dimmed slightly. "Something is pulling at the mana grid."
Riven stepped forward, expression sharpening. "Not something. Someone."
Lira's pulse quickened. "Who?"
Riven didn't answer immediately. They walked toward the center of the hall, placing a hand on one of the golden pillars. Mana rippled outward in concentric rings, revealing a faint distortion—like a crack in glass.
A crack in reality.
Riven exhaled slowly. "I was afraid of this."
Eli moved closer. "Explain."
Riven turned to Lira. "When you broke the spell, you didn't just destroy a system. You destroyed a pillar."
Lira frowned. "A pillar of what?"
"The world," Riven said simply. "The spell wasn't just a prison. It was a stabilizer. A flawed one, yes—but it held certain forces in check."
Cael's eyes narrowed. "What forces?"
Riven hesitated.
And that alone made Lira's stomach drop.
"Riven," she said quietly. "Tell me."
Riven met her gaze, amber eyes glowing with something she had never seen in them before.
Fear.
"There is another," they said. "Another sovereign. Another claimant. Another power that was sealed away when the cycle was created."
Lira's breath caught. "Sealed away?"
"Yes," Riven said. "Because they were too dangerous. Too ambitious. Too powerful."
Arienne's voice trembled. "Who?"
Riven stepped back, cloak swirling around them like a storm.
"The one who ruled before you."
Silence fell over the hall.
Eli's expression hardened. "Impossible. The throne has only one rightful heir."
Cael shook his head. "There were rumors. Old ones. Whispers of a predecessor who vanished."
Arienne looked at Lira, eyes wide. "Vanished… or was sealed."
Lira felt the mana crown tighten around her temples, responding to her rising fear.
"Why would they be sealed?" she asked.
Riven's voice dropped to a whisper.
"Because they tried to conquer the world."
The hall trembled again—this time violently. The pillars flickered. The mana orbs dimmed. The crack in reality widened, spilling a faint, eerie light across the floor.
Lira stood from the throne, mana swirling around her.
"Are you saying," she said slowly, "that breaking the spell freed them?"
Riven nodded once.
"Yes."
The crack split open.
A cold wind swept through the hall.
A voice drifted out—smooth, ancient, dripping with power.
"At last."
Lira's heart stopped.
"My successor awakens."
The hall plunged into darkness.
