Bella's POV
The feeling crept up on me slowly as I made my way back from the corner market. At first, I dismissed it as another wave of anxiety that had been plaguing me for weeks now. My nerves had been frayed lately, and I figured my imagination was just running wild again.
But every time I caught a glimpse in the taxi's side mirror, the same black sedan lurked several cars behind us. When we stopped at red lights, it stopped too. When we turned, it followed the exact same path.
I tried reasoning with myself. Maybe the driver lived in my neighborhood. Maybe it was pure coincidence that we were heading in the same direction. People took similar routes all the time in this part of town.
The taxi dropped me off three blocks from my apartment building. I shouldered my grocery bag and started the familiar walk home, my sneakers quiet against the sidewalk. The evening air had a bite to it, seeping through my thin jacket and making me pull it tighter around myself.
