The boy was walking around the school when he suddenly bumped into the school's prettiest and most popular girl.her things got knocked onto the floor and she snapped at the boy.he apologized and picked up her belongings and handed them to her.he bowed and turned to walk away.she called out his name annoyed that he didn't give her the right response she deserves.she walked towards him and pushed him onto the ground and said it was what he deserved.she then made him apologize by kissing her shoe and carrying her books.he did what she told him to do until it was all done.surprisingly, when going out of the classroom in which she learnt,he looked at her over his shoulder and smiled with genuine gratitude.she got annoyed and threw a book at him.he closed the door and went on smiling.she couldn't help but wonder why he smiled at her.at break time for,she saw him sitting at a table.alone.in the corner close to the door.many people didn't talk to him because they thought he was useless.she walked straight to his table with her friends and slammed her hand on his food plate.it toppled over and fell on his uniform.'oh...i'm sorry 'she said in a mocking tone.instead of getting upset,he smiled genuinely at her again and said nothing.he bent over and started picking the food which fell on the floor and began eating it.everyone watching got disgusted with what he did.the popular girl pushed him onto the ground again and wiped her shoes on his white shirt.she crossed her arms and walked on.she reached the doorway and turned to look at him and still saw him smiling.she shrugged and continued walking.
She had continued to do this to him for many days later.everytime,he smiled at her.she grew fond of him and couldn't go a single day without bothering him.one day,he gave her a box and smiled at her.she grabbed it out of his hand and stuffed into her bag thinking it was a gift.then she pushed him onto the ground.he did the same thing, smiled and got up then, went to his class.as he was walking,she said that he didn't deserve her attention and that he was just as useless as an animal without a head.he didn't say anything but went on smiling.days passed and he began to lose weight.he seemed more pale with circles under his eyes.the popular girl took it as a way of mocking him and called him a dying grass.he smiled at her and gave her a thumbs up.little did she know what was going on behind his smile.
At home,he fell unconscious and was rushed to the hospital.after the doctors checked him, they waited for him to wake up.after he woke up,the doctor told him that he had stage four Cancer and that he only had a few more months to live.he smiled genuinely at the doctor as if he had just received good news.he went to school the next day and was humiliated by the popular girl again.
Three months had gone by and he collapsed again.this time, the doctor asked him if he thought he would live past two days that's when he knew what the doctor meant.his smile had turned to anguish and tears ran down his face.he forced a smile and looked at his parents with sorrow in his eyes.his parents got up and hugged him with tears in their eyes knowing that their son would be no more in just two days.he smiled at his parents and asked them to smile instead of crying.he wrote down a letter on a piece of paper and told his parents what to do after he had passed away.
His parents asked him how he wanted to spend his last day of life and he smiled and said,'i want to go to school...'his parents were taken aback by his request but didn't argue with him.so,he got up the next day as if it was any normal day and got ready for school.on this day, his parents had driven him to school.he got out of the car and smiled and waved goodbye to his parents.aftet seeing this,the mother broke down in tears even though she was trying her best to hold back.she had taken care of him from the time he was in her womb and now it was all coming to an end.he was both excited and sad that he was going to see the popular girl for the last time.after he got into the school,she stormed at him and made fun of him for being brought to school by his mom and dad even though he was in highschool.he smiled genuinely again but this time, she felt a strange feeling.he never took his eyes off of her the whole day and waved at her whenever she looked at him.it was finally time to knock off and everyone was going home.he watched as the popular girl walked away and stretched out his hand.he whispered her name.he drew his hand back and a single tear ran down his cheek.he smiled in anguish and turned around and began walking home.
The day had ended...
The next day in school,the popular girl searched for him and didn't see him in the whole school.she went to his class but his seat was empty.she was getting annoyed and stared at his empty seat in the corner close to the window.she imagined him in his seat looking all pale and frail.finally,it was time to knock off and the principal called her outside.when she saw his parents waiting outside,she thought he had reported her to them.but she saw no sign of him anywhere.she payed attention to the way they looked and knew that something was wrong.
'Are you Stacey?'the mother asked.she said yes.the mother took out the letter he had written before he passed away and gave it to her.she took it and then the mother added on to say that he had passed away and that he wanted her to have the letter.her eyes widened after hearing this and pity filled her heart.it was just like that until she opened the letter and read it.it said.
Dear Stacey,
If you're reading this letter then you already know of the bad news.i know you never liked and I doubt that you will read the whole letter.but please,I ask for your attention just this once.i'm sorry that I won't be here anymore for you to have someone you can always turn to if you're bored.i'm sorry that I was such a loser.thank you for being there to keep me company until my last day on earth.thank you for being there when I was alone.i don't want you to cry at my funeral and end up lonely.instead,I want you to smile proudly and always remember that I will always keep you company for the rest of your life.you were the best thing that ever happened in my life.i never thought I'd have anyone to remember as my friend until you came along...so,thank you very much...

After she read the letter,she ran home, crying and sobbing.she got into the house and sat down with both her knees cuddled up to her chest.tears ran down uncontrollably that her mother had gotten worried.she didn't speak or eat that night.
The next day at the funeral,she went close to his grave and knelt down.she threw a flower onto the coffin in which he was lying and smiled.she then said
"Thank you..."
Tears threatened and she fought them back.she grew up into a more kind and loving person after this.
