Chapter 8 - Beta Luke Secret

Beta Luke pov:

I stared out the window, my eyes fixed on the trees swaying gently in the breeze. My mind was a jumble of emotions, a mix of worry and regret. Sofia, my little girl, mated to the future Alpha. I couldn't help but think about the turn of events, and how it would affect her life. I really hoped the prophecy wouldn't come to pass, but it can't be helped.

but now that she's turned out to be his mate... I just hope things go according to plan, I thought to myself, my voice barely above a whisper.

Flashback

The night she shifted for the first time...

I stood far away, beside a tree, hiding so that Sofia wouldn't see me and nobody in the pack would see her. I'd made sure to link one of the patrolling warriors not to come to this side of the forest - that I will be the one checking the perimeter on this side, ensuring nobody came near and witnessed Sofia shifting because I knew exactly what her wolf would look like my mate and I did. I wanted to protect her, to shield her from prying eyes. I stood frozen, my heart aching with every cry she made. She was in pain, shifting into her wolf alone, with no one to guide her. I wanted to rush to her side, to comfort her, but I couldn't move. All I could do was watch, helpless, as she struggled.

And then, she emerged. A beautiful white wolf, with a crescent moon mark on her forehead. I felt a surge of pride and love, mixed with a pang of guilt. I knew she was special, destined for greatness.

Present time.

I took a deep breath, the memory still painful. I sat back in my chair, my eyes filled with a mix of determination and sadness. Just as I was lost in thought, the door to my office burst open and Linda stormed in, her eyes blazing with fury.

You need to tell Damian to release Vanessa from the dungeon, she demanded, her voice venomous. She did nothing wrong. All she did was teach Sofia a lesson, teach her to know her place.

I leaned back in my chair, watching as she paced back and forth, her anger palpable.

"Sofia is a lonely omega, and yet she's mated to the powerful future Alpha of the pack, " Linda ranted. It's unacceptable. I demand that you command Sofia to reject Damian."

I sighed, trying to calm her down. "Linda, you know that's not possible. Damian has already accepted Sofia as his mate. The Alpha and Luna have accepted her as their future daughter-in-law. The pack is already adjusting to the idea of Sofia as their future Luna."

But Linda was beyond reason. "Vanessa is the perfect fit for Damian. She's powerful, she has the right bloodline..."

I cut her off, my voice firm. "It's not about power or bloodline, Linda. The Moon Goddess chose Sophia to be Damian's mate. There's nothing anyone can do about it."

Linda's face twisted in anger. "Are you finally going to start loving the daughter you've never cared about, just because she's mated to the Alpha?"

I felt a pang of guilt, but I stood my ground. "I have always loved Sofia , and I will always love her and you know it.

Linda's smile was cold. "If you love your daughter, you'll do the needful. I expect you to make Sofia reject Damian and convince the pack elders that she's not fit to be the Luna of the pack. They did it once they can do it again. If you don't want what happened to your mother to happen to your daughter...

I felt a chill run down my spine. "She's your daughter too, Linda.

Linda's laughter was bitter. "Please, we both know I don't consider that omega my daughter.

With that, she stormed out of the office, leaving me sitting there, wondering if I'd made a grave mistake. I wished things were different.

Sofia pov:

I sat at the dining table, sipping my coffee and trying to focus on my assignment. It had been two months since I found out that Damian was my mate, and I'd finally settled into a peaceful routine at my grandmother's house. The day after I moved out of the pack house, I'd gone back to prepare breakfast as usual, but Damian had stopped me. He'd told me that his father had issued an order that I didn't need to do any of the pack work anymore.

Damian had been driving me crazy, insisting on taking me to school and picking me up every day. I'd given up arguing with him, mostly because it was easier to just let him have his way.

Things hadn't been easy at school, thanks to Vanessa's constant sniping and my mom's constant nagging. She'd been on my case about rejecting Damian, but I'd told her it wasn't going to happen. Damian had accepted me, also Alpha commanded me not to reject him and his parents had been nothing but kind. His mom had even taken me shopping and apologized for the way I'd been treated. Saying things were a bit complicated

Just thinking about it made me feel a little more at ease. Damian's friends, Josh and Mark, had also been hanging around, training me in human form and making sure I was okay. Josh, in particular, had been glued to my side, and I knew it was because he was the future Gamma and felt responsible for protecting me. Damian has been taking me out on dates a lot trying to make up for everything still asking for forgiveness..maybe i will someday..not just now.

As I sat there, lost in thought, I heard the back door open. I didn't need to look up to know it was Damian. He'd been doing that a lot lately, just walking into my house uninvited.

"Hey, what are you doing here?" I asked, not looking up from my book. "You know you can't keep barging into my personal space."

Damian chuckled and sat down beside me. "Relax, baby, there's no personal space when you're my mate. Besides, I brought dinner.

I smiled, feeling a flutter in my chest. "Thanks, but you didn't need to. I can take care of myself."

Damian's eyes curled at the corners as he smiled. "I know you can, but things are changing. I'm going to make sure you're safe and taken care of from now on.

He asked me about my day, and we chatted for a bit. Then, he mentioned that he was going to start training me in wolf form, starting tomorrow morning.

Just as Damian was telling me about the training, the pack alarm blared to life, signaling that the pack was under attack. Damian's expression turned serious, and he jumped up from his chair.

"Stay inside and lock the doors, he ordered, his voice firm but gentle. "I'm going to station two warriors outside to guard you. Don't leave the house, no matter what.

And with that, he was gone, leaving me staring after him with a mix of worry and frustration. What was going on? Who would dare attack our pack?
