Chapter 2 - CHAPTER 1: Elayah

Peace. An emotion that Elayah felt was unattainable now. She rolled her glass of red wine between her long slender fingers as she stood in the vast balcony of her luxurious penthouse.

She gazed at the never sleeping city of L.A. The moon casted a soft slivery shine on her silky blue robe as she replayed her whole day in her mind.

Elayah had been working 16-17 hours a day since two months for an upcoming launch of her new beauty product. That had the potential of a game changer in the industry, and thus triple their profits in few weeks.

But it all now just remained as a project PPT. As someone from the company, a close known one betrayed her. The product's formula and their launch strategy was leaked to a rival company. Making it impossible to evolve or do anything about the project.

Elayah reminisced how her blood boiled and she couldn't believe her eyes when she saw the snitch, the betrayer was none other than her long known friend.

The one who helped her in establishing the company's connections and so Elayah proposed her a respectable position in the company once she made it successful, at the age of 24.

But now, the girl revealed her true nature and Elayah couldn't help but add another name to the long and probably never ending list of traitors.

She sighed for the nth time as wind hushed past her lean figure.

She wrapped her arms around herself and sipped the last gulp of her wine.

She walked into her bedroom feeling a bit cold and was about to lay down. When suddenly her phone rang.

She let out a huff as she knew who it could be at this hour.

"Yes, mum"

Elayah said as she answered the call

"Love, do you remember your childhood friend, Emily. She is getting married in Texas and has invited us all"

Her mother replied

"So? Mom,I don't know her anymore since like what? 6 years. And the last time we met, she was asking for free beauty products. I don't have time for that all. You know well, that just now a project of mine failed and I have to work more for another now"

Elayah said massaging her temples.

"But Elayah, the girl has invited us so sweetly. And...it's not like there is any other marriage I am able to attend anyways"

Her mother said, playing the classic 'every mother to her daughter at 28' act.

"Mommm, come on. You know well that I am not interested in that stuff at all."

She said and recieved a scoff

"Baby, you didn't even get a single boyfriend till now that I would have known of. How could I not be worried?"

Her mother said

Elayah now couldn't take it anymore and said with a tinge of anger

"Mom, if you are really so desperate for me to marry anyone. Then how about you choose it yourself. I will be at the wedding, dressed as a bride and slide on a ring. You name it."

Elayah then cut the call and sighed, laying on the bed.

She knew her mother meant well for her. That she wanted nothing but for Elayah to settle and be happy. To have some sense of love and comfort that she has been kept away from since teenage.

Since her father was unemployed and the house conditions went almost below the ground. She knew how her parents struggled for even groceries at a time.

But now, resting seemed like a sin to her. Somewhere...she still yearns for the love that everyone of her age experiences. But she shuts that thought down as she had began loving her company ever since.

She focused on building herself and for her family since such a young age that now, other things seem useless and burdening rather than comforting.

She refused to look as some pathetic single girl, whining for a little boyfriend. Rather she proved herself to be a happy, calm and peaceful alone.

Elayah never had a boyfriend once, never experienced what dating and romantic love feels like. But she knew what real love feels like which she experienced with her family and while building her own creation, "Aurora".

She smiled knowing this will pass on too just like the days she felt everything was over only to stand back stronger.

She buried in her warm duvet and slept knowing she has to grind harder tomorrow. But that's a thing to look up to now, knowing she can do it. Goodnight
