Chapter 113 - Chapter 112 – Hangover

POV: Keifer

My head felt like a construction site.

Not the organized kind.

The chaotic, "who approved this noise?" kind.

I opened my eyes slowly.

Ceiling.

My ceiling.

My room.

How?

I blinked twice.

Memory loading…

KingsGround.

Drinks.

Luna Byte.

Fresh air.

Car.

Confession.

I sat up too fast.

Big mistake.

My skull immediately protested.

"Bad idea," I muttered, holding my head.

Okay. Think.

I was outside.

She was there.

She said, "Hi baby."

I said—

I froze.

I said I love Jay.

I said I would buy the world for her.

I wished I could kiss her.

And then—

I kissed someone.

My eyes widened.

Did I kiss Jay?

Or did I kiss Luna Byte?

I leaned back slowly.

"I was with Luna Byte," I said to myself.

"So that means… I kissed Luna Byte."

Silence.

"…Right?"

My brain felt like it was buffering.

But the headache decided to interrupt.

Pain level: disrespectful.

I groaned and dragged myself out of bed.

Downstairs.

The smell of breakfast hit me.

Mom was at the table.

Keiren scrolling his phone.

Keagan eating like it was a competition.

Uncle Victor sipping tea like he knew secrets.

I sat down quietly.

Uncle Victor looked up calmly.

"To the maid," he said, "please bring Keifer lime water."

Mom looked at me.

"Why were you drunk last night?"

"Nothing," I replied immediately.

She gave me The Look.

The maid brought the lime water.

I drank.

Instant regret.

Mom continued, "How did you even get home?"

"I have no idea."

Uncle Victor casually sipped his tea.

"Luna Byte brought you."

I choked.

The lime water went down the wrong way.

"What?"

Victor nodded calmly. "Yes. You were completely drunk."

Keagan looked interested.

"Who's Luna Byte?"

I wiped my mouth.

"An annoying woman who wouldn't leave me alone."

Mom frowned slightly.

"Don't mind Keifer. Luna Byte is a very kind girl. She helped your mom against Kaizer. She and her partner, Night Byte."

Keiren paused.

"That name sounds familiar."

My brain did a small flip.

Night Byte.

Hex?

No.

Stop.

Don't jump.

I drank the rest of the lime water in one go.

"I'm going jogging."

Mom looked at the clock.

"It's already 10 AM."

"Still morning," I replied and stood up before anyone could question me.

Outside.

Fresh air.

Sun already high.

I started jogging.

Slow at first.

Then faster.

Because my thoughts were running faster than me.

Okay.

Let's analyze.

Luna Byte brought me home.

That means she saw me drunk.

Which means she heard everything.

Everything.

I stopped mid-run.

Did she see my face when I kissed her?

Did she—

Wait.

Did I remove her mask?

I squeezed my eyes shut.

I remembered touching fabric.

Pulling it down.

Seeing—

My heart jumped.

I saw Jay.

I saw Jay's face.

Or did I imagine it?

I resumed running.

Faster.

No. No. No.

I was drunk.

Maybe my brain replaced Luna Byte's face with Jay's because I was thinking about Jay.

Yes.

That's logical.

That's safe.

That's emotionally manageable.

I ran.

And ran.

And ran.

My thoughts:

If Jay was Luna Byte—

No. Impossible.

But Miguel once said—

And Carlos—

And the way Jay teases me—

And the emojis—

And the timing—

I slowed down.

Suddenly I collided into someone.

"Oof."

"Sorry," I said quickly.

I looked up.

Carlos.

Miguel.

Both staring at me.

They recognized me instantly.

"Bro," Carlos said, "why are you sweating that much?"

"I was jogging."

Miguel looked around. "How long?"

"From my house. Not that far."

Carlos smirked. "Show us your house."

I turned to point.

Then paused.

Turned back.

"What time is it?"

Miguel checked his watch.

"12:28."

Silence.

My brain did the math.

10 AM.

Now 12:28.

"…I've been running for three hours."

Miguel blinked. "What are you thinking about?"

"Just this girl."

Carlos made a dramatic "Ooooh."

"There's no 'ooooh' here," I snapped.

Miguel grinned. "What's her name? It must be Jay."

"I wish," I muttered.

Then paused.

"It's not her. This woman's name is Luna Byte."

Carlos and Miguel exchanged a look.

Carlos said slowly, "One of the owners of Byte JC?"

"Yes."

Miguel nodded confidently. "I told you. It must be Jay."

"I said her name is—" I stopped.

"…What did you say?"

Miguel shrugged. "You heard me right."

My stomach dropped.

My stomach dropped.

"So you mean Jay is Luna Byte?"

Carlos suddenly looked very busy.

"Um… Keifer, we have to go to work."

I frowned.

"Today is Sunday."

Miguel was already walking backward toward their car.

"Yes. I know. Byeeeee."

They got inside quickly.

Carlos waved too happily.

Car drove off.

I stood there.

Sweating.

Heart pounding.

Headache forgotten.

Jay.

Luna Byte.

Same teasing.

Same timing.

Same energy.

Same—

Night Byte.

Hex.

My eyes widened slowly.

"That means…"

If Jay is Luna Byte…

Then Night Byte is—

"Hex."

I stared into the distance.

The universe really sat back and said, let's make Keifer suffer today.

I laughed once.

Then groaned.

"I kissed Jay."

Pause.

"…Or did I kiss Luna Byte?"

Long silence.

"…I kissed Jay."

And suddenly my heart wasn't confused anymore.

It was terrified.
