(Pov Satoshi)
I had spent the past few hours pacing back and forth in my new office. I had graduated just a few months ago and managed to very quickly get a new job at the school but now I was about to embark on my most frightening mission yet.
"Dude just ask her already this is just sad." Satoru said as he read some magazine on my bed.
"Seriously Satoshi it's just Shoko you know her." Suguru said as well before eating a handful of peanuts.
The two of them had originally been my emotional support in this endeavor. The mission finally ask out Ieri Shoko I had liked her for years but now that the prospect of actually asking had arrived I was kind of terrified which was very strange.
I had charged head first into a battle with Toji of all people and yet asking someone out is my limit? It was just that no matter what every time I thought about just saying something to her I panicked.
"You two don't get it you're both content to be single I have dreams here." I say before a can comes flying at my head. I turn and glare at the two of them but neither seems willing to admit to the attack.
"Come on Satoshi I have a girlfriend it's not that hard." Suguru says after a moment.
"That doesn't count you saved her life you've got a fairy tale romance it's not fair." I said before turning to Satoru. "And you have whatever is going on with Utahime in Kyoto." That gets him and Satoru's face turns a little red.
"I don't know what you're talking about." He said turning away as he suddenly found the wall very interesting.
I returned to pacing running through every possible way this could go and somehow each time it was worse than the last. I was so in my own head I didn't notice Satoru take his phone out and send a text.
It would soon be clear who he had texted though as a few minutes later there was a knock on the door and when I opened it Shoko was there.
"Hey Satoru said you needed to talk to me?" She said with some confusion and when I turned to glare Satoru and Suguru were already gone and my window was now open. 'That traitor!' I thought.
"You ok?" Shoko asked and I realized I had been staring at my room angrily for too long now. Right ok I just need to say it no big deal.
"Hey Shoko, hi hello." Oh god I was blowing it. "I was wondering if maybe you wanted to go somewhere just us you know?" this was going terrible I was going to beat Satoru's ass later.
"Like a date? Sure, sounds fun." She said halting my thoughts of revenge immediately.
"Oh, ok how about we meet at six? I know a good yakisoba place." I say doing my best to be certain.
"Sounds good." And with that she left. Now I just had to make sure thi went well. I could do that right?
A few hours later I was outside Shoko's dorm room. I had changed from the standard school uniform into something more casual for the date. It was a simple pair of jeans and a button up with a plain t-shirt under it.
I knocked on her door and shortly after she opened it and the sight caught me off guard. She had also exchanged her standard uniform for a shirt and skirt combo. The top she had on was purple and the skirt was black.
"Woah" I said without meaning to causing her to let out a giggle.
"You like it I was going for casual." She said before leaving the room. "So lead the way."
I led her off the campus the restaurant I had found. It was near the schools entrance area so I had been stopping off there after most of my missions for a quick snack. We both sat down in one of the booths inside and made our orders.
"So what finally gave you the courage to say something?" Shoko asked suddenly.
"Oh well I just felt that after a while it was about time I've kind of liked you for a while and this job isn't the safest so better to say how I'm feeling before it's too late." I said falling into a bit of a ramble by the end.
"Huh that's kind of depressing but I get it." She spoke.
It was the unfortunate truth about Jujutsu the life expectancy wasn't great. It was extremely likely you'd die young in the course of fighting cursed spirits or curse users.
"Yeah sorry but you know best to just be honest right?" I said.
"You're right honest is important." She said.
We ate in silence after that each of us enjoying our meal and before long we had finished up. Once that was done we left the restaurant and I led her to a spot near a public park. It was a place I visited a few times because it had a garden in it that reminded me of the gardens back at the clan compound.
I may have left on less than ideal circumstances but the place did have its positives and the gardens had been one of them. "So for a first date how did I do?" I asked her as we sat down on a bench that sat on the edge of a koi pond.
"Ha you did fine Satoshi." She said pulling out her cigarettes.
"So would you maybe want to do this again?" I asked unable to look at her directly.
"I would indeed." As she said that she gave me a small kiss on the cheek before we both went back to admiring the pond.
