Kabuto wakes up and sees the sky was dark. He was shocked for a moment to find himself alive then he remembers the two people who saved him one. Although, he could not remember their faces. He then tried to move but he could not. He then tried to check the surroundings and he sees that he is in a tent or sort of something.
Then someone enters the tent it was Shikamaru. Shikamaru sees kabuto woken up and says " It is good that we met you if not you would have died due to your injuries". He then asks kabuto why he was attacked to which kabuto replies "I was carrying some goods with me in the large box I kept in the carriage". Shikamaru then says "Those goods were not that valuable so I think they got angry and then attacked you this gravely huh!".
Kabuto agrees with the theory given by Shikamaru.
Shikamaru then tells kabuto to take rest and says they are far from Konoha and due to kabuto's carriage being broken and his horse killed he has to go on walk. Due to his injuries kabuto cannot use his chakra properly and it would be hard for him to even walk so, kabuto will have to wait till his injuries heal and then he can leave for Konoha.
Shikamaru on other-hand could not wait for that much and wanted to leave for Sura, as the old man would charge him more money if the waited for kabuto to heal which Shikamaru could not afford. He then thinks to leave by foot to Sura while he makes the old man to take kabuto to Konoha.
It was night by this point. Shikamaru and the old man have already ate their food while, kabuto ate some provisions he had and all slept.
Next morning, Shikamaru wakes kabuto and tells him of his decision of leaving kabuto with the old man so, he could take kabuto to Konoha where he can take further treatment and also do whatever his reason was for going to Konoha.
Kabuto upon hearing Shikamaru's decision says that while he appreciates Shikamaru's decision to help him , he rejects the offer by saying he cannot go to Konoha as he wanted to visit Konoha to meet a person he loved but he cannot show himself like this infront of them.
Shikamaru was surprised but he understood his reasoning and then asks kabuto what he wants to do then kabuto replies that he wants to grow strong. So, he asks Shikamaru to help him grow strong. Shikamaru rejected kabuto by saying he has no interest in teaching kabuto. If he wants to grow strong then he can find his own master and learn from him. Kabuto was sad by the decision but was determined that he will follow Shikamaru and do everything in his power to Shikamaru his master and learn from him how to grow strong by what ever means it takes.
Kabuto then informs Shikamaru that he will follow him to Village Sura and will work for Shikamaru even if Shikamaru kicks him he will still return to him no matter what it takes.
Shikamaru was surprised by this decision and says do whatever you want just don't disturb me. Kabuto hearing was happy that atleast he didn't shout at him to leave and he indirectly accepted him to come with him.
Kabuto wanted to prove to Shikamaru his determination and says he will do anything for him even reveal his personal secrets that no one knows. Shikamaru laughs at this declaration and says what will he do by learning kabuto's secret as it is worthless to him. Kabuto then replies " you met me just today so, you don't know who I am and what secrets I have"
He even says "I'm a weak guy but I am no ordinary carriage driver I have vast knowledge in chakra and I have made many inventions in both defence and healthcare of all the villages". Shikamaru then remembers that there is a young man called Kabuto who is famous for making weapons and is a renowned for his inventions. Shikamaru was surprised by this but, says "even though you have such knowledge it is of no use to him as I'm just going to live a peaceful life in a isolated village like Sura. so, I wouldn't need your help".
Kabuto got rejected again. Kabuto then asks Shikamaru that, he might have something that needs Kabuto's expertise even if it is as simple as fixing the watch or complex as making him a device which can store chakra. He will do it for him. Shikamaru gets annoyed and tries to leave but, he suddenly remembers the device made by Kushina given by Naruto. He thinks for a moment and sees kabuto, should he trust kabuto with such a device. As, it was a device which made Naruto meet dead Kushina through chakra so if he gives it kabuto he might do something evil with it. Trusting someone with such a device is highly irresponsible but , he also had the curiosity to know more about the device. You see, Shikamaru wanted to use this device to talk with his dead parents. As, it helped Naruto meet with Kushina when she was dead. Then, he decided to take in kabuto with him for sometime. If he finds kabuto trustworthy he might ask kabuto to fix the device. Although, for Shikamaru it was just a wish to meet his parents. It was not a goal for him though.
Shikamaru then turns to kabuto and asks "you may come with me to the village but, I want to know why you want me to teach you if you are already such a scholar and inventor of many weapons and worked for many villages? Is that not enough for your lover ?".
Kabuto then says " I want to be strong physically too. As, my knowledge is not enough to save me when I face a powerful enemy and I have a lot of enemies who want to kill me and for your second question, my lover likes me a for who I am but, to marry her I have to get stronger and will have to fight with some powerful people. This is the reason I want to become stronger physically by learning from you".
Shikamaru was a little surprised by his resolve but , he kinda expected his reason might be related to some woman or love thing. Shikamaru then says he still will not take kabuto as a disciple but he will allow kabuto to stay with him and if kabuto agrees to work as Shikamaru worker then he might show him the training regime Shikamaru goes everyday which kabuto can see and learn and practice himself. After all this they went to old man and said to leave them near the forest entrance. The old man seeing kabuto joining the ride says it will cost extra for Shikamaru about another 70 ryo. Shikamaru was annoyed and wanted to smak on the old man's head but kabuto spoke in between " I will pay for my own seat . So , you don't need to bother my master". Old man agrees and smiles.
Shikamaru glares at kabuto because he called him master. Kabuto feeling the glare tries to look away . Their journey starts again. While travelling Shikamaru asks kabuto about the women he was talking about as, kabuto seemed really emotional about her and this women seemed to be from a powerful family with the kabuto described her. Kabuto says that it is a secret that he cannot share with Shikamaru right now but , when time comes he will introduce Shikamaru to his lover directly and he also adds that the women he loves will be happy to meet Shikamaru.
Shikamaru gets silent for a moment then asks about kabuto's Stash which the masked men left after nearly killing kabuto. Kabuto shows that most of them were just his personal belongings and there is nothing that valuable in the box. That even if he lost all the Stash in the box nothing much would have happened.
