Chapter 10 - Ch. 10

The white glowing stone in his hand had fallen from the little girl's mouth.

It was an Extraordinary Treasure!

Last night, he killed 37 Monkey-Head Ghosts and only gained an Extraordinary Treasure. Yet today, after killing the mere mother and daughter, another Extraordinary Treasure dropped.

The drop rate for the mother and daughter was much higher.

The mother and daughter were likely the "Pseudo-Human Ghosts" mentioned by the blue-robed man. They had no real power of their own and were inclined to disguise themselves as humans to enter the station as night approached. Once seen through, they could be easily killed.

Of course, these Pseudo-Human Ghosts couldn't hold Eerie Stones either, as they would be seared.

"Understood."

Crippled Monkey scratched the back of his head somewhat guiltily. "It's a good thing you woke up, young master. Otherwise, I would have missed this opportunity. I was mainly worried that if I mistakenly hurt people, it wouldn't be good."

"How could there be any mistake?"

Chen Fan shook his head and laughed. "If they don't have Eerie Stones, no station will take them in. Even if they're really human, if you drive them away, they'll still die in the Perpetual Night."

"Besides, even if someone were hurt, it wouldn't matter."

"That's their fate."

"They have to accept it."

"Alright. Got enough sleep during the day? There might be a fierce battle tonight. Let's eat something. We'll work better on a full stomach."

...

The moment the sun set, the darkness surged like a tide, rushing in from the horizon and instantly enveloping the entire world.

The Perpetual Night had arrived!

This was already the third night the master and servant had spent on this wasteland.

However, compared to the previous two nights, they felt much safer tonight.

"Young master."

Sitting by the campfire, Crippled Monkey devoured the dry flatbread in his hand while stroking the sturdy Archery Tower beside him, his eyes filled with excitement. "As far as I know, an Architect who can build Archery Towers is no longer just a novice who can only create 'Eerie Fire'!"

"To hire an Architect to build an Archery Tower for your station, you'd need at least 150 Eerie Stones!"

"If the master knew you could already build Archery Towers, he'd definitely regret everything he's done all these years."

There was one more thing he didn't say.

Who had passed on to the young master the Archery Tower building blueprint?

Could it be...

The legacy left by the mistress for the young master?

Chen Fan smiled but didn't reply, lowering his head to look at the stone in his lap--a treasure, indeed.

Treasure Name:* Building Duplication Stone

Treasure Grade: White

Treasure Effect: Can be used on any building at or below level 2 to create an identical building.

Currently, the most valuable structure in his station was naturally the level 2 Archery Tower.

Without much thought, he pressed the stone against the Archery Tower beside him. Immediately, the illusory silhouette of an Archery Tower, composed of countless faint white lines, reappeared in the air. The stone melted into a milky-white liquid that flowed into the unreal silhouette, which quickly solidified and occupied the other side of the campfire.

From the left and right, the two closely flanked the campfire.

Archery Towers could only attack creatures that entered the station's perimeter. If they were placed too close to the station's edge, they'd be the first to suffer damage from Eerie Creatures and could easily be destroyed. Placing them in the middle of the station was prudent.

He then took out one Eerie Stone and embedded it into the base of the brand-new Archery Tower.

By now, he had only three Eerie Stones left.

His resources were nearly depleted.

Crippled Monkey, who had been daydreaming about the future, witnessed this scene and stood frozen in place, unable to speak for a long time. After a while, he murmured, "Young master..."

"Yes?"

"You need to get married and have children soon."

"Why?"

"Even though you're only a level 1 Architect now, your talent surpasses all the Architects I've ever heard of. You'll definitely become a great Architect in the future. Only by starting a family early can you establish a great clan of your own."

Upon hearing this, Chen Fan chuckled and shook his head without saying anything. Crippled Monkey seemed to have an obsession with clans, always thinking about making the Chen Clan look at him in a new light. Now, he even wanted Chen Fan to start his own clan.

Level 1 Architect...

That was part of the cultivation system of this world.

The higher an Architect's level, the stronger their physical condition, the fewer resources they'd spend constructing buildings, and the higher-grade buildings they could create.

But...

To him, all of this was meaningless.

Useless.

As long as he had the resources and blueprints, he could create top-grade buildings right now. Architects in this world were essentially "castrated" versions without panels. Only with a panel could one become a true Architect.

In other words, this world was virtually a game world. However, during the transition, an unexpected incident occurred, causing the natives of this world to lack player panels and be unable to see them. He, the only one who could see the panel, became the true player—and the only player.

After all, his Perpetual Night Lord panel didn't have any special effects.

It was basically just a player panel.

Absorbing Eerie Stones would serve him only in a single way- to strengthen his physical condition. He'd definitely do it once he had enough Eerie Stones, but for now, it was a low priority.

At that moment—

The darkness outside the station suddenly began to boil, churning continuously, and even piercing shrieks could be clearly heard.

"It's here!"

Chen Fan sprang to his feet and hid inside the support structure at the base of the Archery Tower. As his narrowed gaze swept around, he whispered, "A big guy is coming. It might break into the station. Get ready."

"If it really comes in, don't engage it head-on. Leave it to the Archery Towers!"

He hadn't set any traps tonight precisely because he was worried the big monster that escaped last night might return. It seemed it really had come.

"Huff..."

His breathing quickened slightly, mainly because he didn't know the enemy's strength. He wasn't sure if the two level 2 Archery Towers could stop that thing...

If they couldn't, there would be literally nowhere to run!

The next moment!

"Squeak, squeak, squeak!"

A sharp screech suddenly rang out in the darkness outside the station, and the next thing they knew, a massive Monkey-Head Ghost, nearly two meters tall, charged out of the darkness and lunged into the station!

It was incredibly fast!

This was the first time he'd seen an Eerie Creature barge into a station with an Eerie Fire.

Enveloped in a black mist, it had an oppressive aura to it that made one instinctively hold their breath.

Humans seemed far too insignificant in the face of such an Eerie Creature.

But at the same time, the crossbows atop the two Archery Towers beside the Eerie Fire swiveled in unison, aiming straight at the massive Monkey-Head Ghost. The Eerie Stones embedded in the bases of the Archery Towers flashed with a faint, fleeting white light.

Immediately after!

"Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!"

The sound of arrows cutting through the air pierced the night sky, echoing in the ears of the two.

Several crossbow bolts shot out, accurately sinking into the giant Monkey-Head Ghost. The firing speed wasn't particularly fast or slow, but the accuracy was notable, with a hit rate of over 70%.

Severely wounded, the Monkey-Head Ghost was in no mood to get revenge anymore. Shrieking in agony, it bolted out of the station at incredible speed and disappeared into the darkness.

"It has fled?"

Chen Fan poked his head out from behind the Archery Tower, gazing into the darkness outside the station that had returned to calm. A hint of regret and disappointment flashed in his eyes.

"What a shame."

"That Monkey-Head Ghost would definitely drop something good after death."
