Chapter 9 - Story of a vampire

"I'll keep telling you. At that time, he kept me pinned there, refusing to let me leave or go outside. As time dragged on, I started to grow restless, and at the same time the bloodlust inside my body grew stronger and stronger. That power inside me began to rampage wildly, as if the most primitive instinct was slowly starting to dominate my actions and thoughts. Ever since I became a newborn vampire, I hadn't drunk any blood. But he kept restricting my movements. Eventually, I couldn't stand it anymore. Under the cover of night, I secretly slipped out."

"I sneaked out of the castle and gradually made my way toward the familiar little town from my past. My steps were light, my figure concealed, moving like a practiced stalker. The closer I got to the town, the more uneasy and agitated I felt — as though something terrible was about to happen. It wasn't until I stepped onto the familiar streets that I finally understood where that anxiety was coming from. It was the burning thirst for blood, an uncontrollable instinct and craving, combined with the reckless arrogance of being something other than human. Looking back now, it's truly terrifying. I had only just become a vampire, yet I already felt as though I had completely and naturally merged into that identity. I saw the bustling crowds on the street, and I could sense every single heartbeat, every surge of blood in their veins — it was like a beautiful symphony. After days without feeding, I could no longer hold back. I rushed straight into the crowd."

I suddenly stood up. "You just charged in like that? Weren't you afraid of getting caught?"

He shook his head with a bitter smile. "Back then, I was completely controlled by instinct. I had reached the point where I couldn't endure it any longer. I could smell the sweet fragrance of blood on their bodies, feel the rhythm of their lives — I felt as though I had merged into them, just like when I drank the King's blood. I rushed into the crowd, grabbed someone, and imitating the King, I sank my teeth toward his neck. But he let out a scream — I missed the artery. Instead, I left two deep puncture wounds on his neck, just as bloody as the ones old John had back then. He screamed and ran off, coughing and waving his arms, then collapsed to the ground amid the terrified shrieks of the crowd, convulsing and moaning for a few moments before going still. I had torn through his windpipe."

"Almost instantly — like throwing a stone into water — the crowd scattered in every direction like frightened birds, screaming and fleeing. Some people stared straight at me, at my blood-drenched fangs bared in plain sight. Someone pointed at me, shrieking that I was a monster. But at that moment, I wasn't afraid at all. I wasn't panicked. All I saw was a huge mass of food — sweet, fresh blood — scattering in chaotic, irregular patterns. I didn't understand why they were running, why they were screaming. I just stood there motionless. Some people were already approaching me with sticks — I bared my fangs —

'You idiot!' A familiar voice rang out, followed by a heavy slap across my face. 'What the hell are you doing?! You've been discovered! We can't stay here anymore!' I turned my head and saw it was the King. His inorganic gray eyes burned with boundless fury, as though I had offended a god. He grabbed me by the arm, and in the next instant, everything around me went silent. I looked around and realized the chaotic street had transformed back into the familiar chandelier-lit hall of the castle.

He glared at me coldly and spoke in an icy tone. 'You really are an disobedient subject. I had planned to let you stay here for a while first, then teach you how to hunt humans properly — why did you do this?! You just charged straight out — do you have any idea how much chaos you caused on the street?! Do you know what happens if humans discover our existence? They'll start researching ways to fight us, arm themselves! Then we'll no longer be able to obtain blood!'

Only then did I realize what I had done. The taste of blood still lingered on my lips from the bite — I immediately vomited everything onto the floor. I roared and howled in madness, as though I could expel all that disgusting guilt through sheer screaming. I had killed someone. I had just killed someone. That single thought filled my entire mind. My whole body trembled; I had no idea what to do. After the unrestrained madness came the remorse and nausea driven by the humanity that still hadn't been completely extinguished inside me. I kept vomiting, but there was nothing left in my stomach. In the end, I simply knelt before him, dry-heaving endlessly."
