Her heart swelled so fast it nearly hurt, a smile breaking across her face before she'd even fully processed the sight.
Then she remembered.
She sat up so fast the blanket slid off her shoulder, her head whipping around the room. "Wait, where's Lucan?"
"Right here, love." His voice came from directly behind her, low and amused, and she turned to find him propped up on one elbow, molten gold eyes soft with sleep and something else, something warmer. She sagged with relief, a hand pressed briefly to her own chest.
"Oh, thank god. I missed you meeting them." She reached back and cupped his jaw, thumb brushing his cheek. "Wait, you haven't seen them yet? You've smelled them?"
"I could smell them the moment the two of them walked in," he murmured, glancing past her toward the two figures at the edge of the bed. "But I didn't want to wake you by demanding a look."
