After more than a month of enrollment, the children of the Sunagakure Academy finally reached the first true threshold of their shinobi careers: the study of the Chakra Extraction Technique.

The atmosphere in the Grotto Classroom was unprecedentedly solemn. Standing on the podium alongside Chunin Arai were two Special Jonin. Their sharp, predatory gazes scanned the room like falcons. The invisible pressure was so immense that even the mischievous Huzhen shrank into his seat, his usual antics forgotten.

"What we teach you today is the foundation of all shinobi arts!" Arai's voice was severe, bordering on a warning. "Listen well. Chakra is life energy, produced by the perfect fusion of Physical Energy and Spiritual Energy. It is not an infinite resource. Excessive extraction will ravage your physical foundation and can lead to death!"

He paused, his gaze turning ice-cold. "Therefore, the Village strictly forbids any student from extracting Chakra privately without the supervision of an instructor or a guardian. This is not a suggestion; violators will face severe punishment."

The classroom fell into a heavy silence. Sayo sat quietly in his corner, understanding the subtext of the rule. It was a necessary safety protocol for children with underdeveloped bodies, but it also highlighted a grim reality: the gap between social classes. Children from ninja clans would be supervised by their parents at home, gaining extra hours of practice, while civilian children were restricted to the dwindling hours of the school day.

Sayo thought of his father, Sharyu. He now understood why his father had never allowed him to touch Ninjutsu at home. Sharyu knew Sayo's physical foundation was like scorched parchment—fragile and easily torn by the surge of raw energy.

"Now, everyone, sit cross-legged. Close your eyes and clear your mind," a Special Jonin instructed, his voice acting as a steady guide. "Feel every cell in your body; that is where your physical energy is stored. Concentrate your mind; that is your spiritual power. Slowly, carefully, guide these two forces together in your abdomen..."

Sayo followed the instructions. For him, "concentrating the spirit" was instinctive. The massive spiritual energy he carried from his previous life—a soul with thirty years of cognitive development—was like a silent, deep ocean, ready to be mobilized.

However, when he reached for his Physical Energy, he hit a wall of immense resistance.

His premature body had an incomplete foundation; his cellular activity was significantly lower than that of his peers. It was like trying to draw water from a dry well. His powerful spiritual energy was a surging river, but it had no matching physical energy to fuse with.

Every attempt was a disaster. Because his mental control was so overwhelming, it threatened to wash away the tiny, scattered threads of physical energy he managed to find. It was like trying to hit a delicate embroidery needle with a sledgehammer; the ratio was too unbalanced for a stable fusion.

Around the room, changes began to manifest.

Black Ant was the first to show a reaction. An extremely faint, wild energy fluctuation emanated from his body. Arai nodded approvingly. Soon, several other children from ninja families emitted similar flickers of power. Most civilian children, including the timid Keli and the dull Wenshu, still looked bewildered, their brows furrowed in anxious frustration.

Sayo, meanwhile, was trapped in a unique purgatory.

Fine beads of sweat soaked his forehead. To the instructors, he looked like just another struggling child, perhaps the most hopeless of the lot due to his frailty. Only Sayo knew the truth: he wasn't "unable to sense" the energy; he was unable to balance it. Waves of stinging pain radiated from his core as his spiritual energy collided with his weak biology.

Time ticked away. More and more children successfully extracted their first thread of Chakra, their faces lighting up with excited smiles.

Sayo remained stagnant. He could "internally perceive" the energy field with perfect clarity, but perception wasn't execution. Teacher Arai walked past him, sensed his hollow physical energy, and frowned.

"His foundation is too poor," Arai whispered to his colleague. "Forcing extraction in his condition will only cause internal injury."

Sayo heard him, but he did not give up. He stopped trying to force a "fusion" and instead pivoted to an engineering approach. Using his immense mental control, he treated the task like micro-surgery. He began to "extract" the negligible physical energy thread by thread—micro-gram by micro-gram—guiding it with the same precision he used to assemble puppet gears.

The class was nearing its end. Even Keli and Wenshu had managed one successful, clumsy attempt with a teacher's help. Only Sayo remained, eyes locked shut, struggling in a private war against his own body.

Arai glanced at the clock, preparing to dismiss the class.

Just then, Sayo's frame gave a microscopic tremor.

A flow of energy thinner than a strand of hair—so weak it was almost undetectable—finally fused under his extreme, microscopic control. A wisp of breath formed in his dantian, flickering like a candle in a gale.

Success.

It was so faint that Arai didn't notice it at first. It was the other, more perceptive Special Jonin who let out a startled "Huh?" and stepped closer.

"Arai, wait... did this child just...?"

Arai leaned down, sensing the air around Sayo. His eyes widened in disbelief. "...He actually did it. It's the weakest pulse I've ever felt... but it is unmistakably Chakra."

He looked at Sayo with a complex expression. It was a victory of sheer willpower and precision over a defective body.

Sayo slowly opened his eyes and exhaled a long, weary sigh. His face was colorless, as if he had just survived a major surgery, but deep within his dark pupils, a light flickered.

It was only a single thread. It was nearly invisible. But the door to the world of shinobi had finally been pried open, even if only by a crack.

He was the last in the class to succeed, and the one who had suffered the most to do it.
