The Sandaime's order to withdraw surveillance was more than a gift of privacy—it was the removal of a strategic shackle. For Naruto, it meant that the conceptualization phase was over. It was time for the "Hard Magic" of chakra theory to meet the reality of application.
For years, the invisible eyes of the Anbu had forced him into a state of calculated mediocrity. He had staged "failed" Shadow Clone attempts, pretending to succeed only thirty percent of the time. He had suppressed his intellect, avoiding any action that could be interpreted as a threat or a deviation from the "lovable loser" trajectory. He had watched the Uchiha Clan march toward their demise, unable to even consider a covert mission to salvage a pair of Sharingan for research without alerting the Hokage's hounds.
But now, the air in his small apartment felt different. It felt like freedom.
Naruto's primary objective was the restoration of a lost biological art: Mokuton (Wood Release). He knew that conventional Bloodline Limits were fusions of two elemental natures in a stable ratio—Ice from Water and Wind, or Lava from Fire and Earth.
However, Naruto remained convinced of his "Kekkei Tōta" theory. If Wood Release were a simple two-element fusion, the Senju Clan would have been an army of forest-makers. Instead, it was a power that died with Hashirama. The missing variable was Yang Release (Yōton)—the energy of physical vitality and life itself. To create Wood Release, one didn't just mix mud; one had to breathe a "soul" into the mixture.
Regarding nature transformation, Naruto was technically a novice. But while he lacked a "Human Instruction Manual," he possessed the "Beast Instruction Edition."
Kurama, the Nine-Tails, stood at the absolute apex of chakra manipulation. The Tailed Beast Ball (Bijūdama) was the ultimate expression of Yin-Yang fusion—a volatile 2:8 ratio pushed to the limit of shape transformation. If Kurama could guide Naruto through the complexities of Yin and Yang, he could certainly act as a compass for the fusion of Earth, Water, and Yang.
The weeks that followed were a grueling cycle of discipline. Mornings were dedicated to Might Guy's "Power of Youth" training to forge a vessel capable of holding immense power. Afternoons were spent in the dark silence of his room, ears ringing with the frustrated, subterranean roars of a thousand-year-old fox.
"You big idiot!" Kurama's voice vibrated in the Sealing Space, nearly splashing the dark water against the bars of the cage. "Chakra fusion isn't a collision; it's a weave! If you smash the natures together like that, your tenketsu will shatter before the wood even sprouts!"
Naruto gritted his teeth, his palms trembling. A failed attempt caused a burst of grey mud to splatter against his wall.
"Idiot! How many times do I have to tell you?" Kurama slapped the water with a massive tail. "The fusion must be simultaneous! If the Earth chakra solidifies first, you get rock. If the Water settles first, you get a puddle. You can't add Yang Release later as if it were glue! You have to infuse the life-force while the elements are still in flux!"
The "Beast Instruction" was merciless. Under Kurama's guidance, Naruto abandoned the traditional 50:50 ratio of Earth and Water. He began to visualize the three energies spinning in a microscopic spiral—a triple helix of power.
Winter's grip finally broke. The snow outside the window melted into the Naka River, and the first buds of spring appeared on the trees of Konoha. On the eve of the new Academy semester, Naruto sat cross-legged on his floor, sweat pouring down his face, his focus narrowed to a singular point in his right palm.
Suddenly, the stinging turbulence in his chakra network smoothed out. The heat of the Yang energy found its anchor.
A tiny, vibrant green sprout broke through the skin of his palm. It wasn't a glow of light or a construct of translucent energy. It was a real, solid branch of cedar, unfurling tender green leaves with a visible, rhythmic growth. The room was suddenly filled with the scent of a fresh forest—a pure, vibrant aura of life that belonged to a bygone era.
It was a small twig, barely enough to decorate a desk, but it was proof. The "Calculating Genius" had just cracked the code of the God of Shinobi.
Naruto looked at the sprout, a cold, satisfied smile spreading across his lips.
"Step one complete," he whispered.
