Chapter 2 - II

"Help!"

"Doctor!"

I screamed as I arrived at the hospital. Zoya was immediately taken into the ICU. No one spoke to me or told me how my daughter was fairing since she was taken inside.

I was pacing outside the ICU when Doctor Tanya stepped out. She was Zoya's doctor and my only friend in Crescent Moon Pack.

"How is she?"

Dr Tanya shook her head. Her aura radiating empathy. "Honestly Nyssa, she's not doing good at all. She was getting better, what happened suddenly?"

I opened my mouth, but didn't even know what to say.

"Look Nyssa, Zoya needs blood urgently and the bank is short on her blood group at the moment."

"What?" My eyes widened. "What do you mean by that?"

Doctor Tanya nodded as if silently repeating her words without opening her mouth. Then she placed her hand on my shoulder. "You should call Alpha Louis."

She took out her phone and gave it to me. "He could pass some of his blood to her just like he did last time."

I sighed and shook my head.

Just like last time?

It took me one week and two days to get Louis to donate some blood to our daughter the last time.

One week of incessant begging and pleading. I don't have that long this time, how do I convince him in such a short time?

"He's not answering." Dr. Tanya muttered with desperation.

Everyone knew that my daughter and I meant nothing to Louis. He never cared how we faired. The only people he cared about were Annie and her daughter, Bernice.

I used to think that he had a soft spot for Zoya. I used to console myself with that. At least, he loves my daughter if not me.

I thought that was enough, but being slapped in the face by reality was more painful than being hit by a moving truck.

Why....Why was it so hard for him to love us?

My innocent baby.... Why can't he love her.

She's such a sweet girl...why can't Louis just love her?

Tears trickled down my eyes as I took Dr. Tanya's hands. "Please save my daughter. Please do anything... just save her."

Dr. Tanya nodded and left immediately. I knew she was doing all she can to help save my child.

I called Louis again but he didn't answer the phone. I called his assistant who told me that Louis was out of office.

"He received an emergency call," she said.

I wonder what Annie's emergency was this time.

I called his beta, Peter, who explained that Annie's daughter, Bernice was having her teeth surgery at that moment and Louis has asked that he shouldn't be disturbed.

Finally, it dawned on me. I finally realized who Louis's priorities are. It was neither me nor Zoya.

I told Peter to inform Louis of the situation here then I hung up as I saw a nursing coming out of the ICU.

"How is my daughter?"

The nurse stopped in her tracks. "You can go in and be with her while we await the blood."

I rushed in without waiting to hear the rest of the words. My feet halted as I saw all the wires attached to my baby. I couldn't hold back the dam of tears.

My sweet little child.

She was too young for all that was happening to her. Too young to feel so much pain, yet unloved by her own father.

The machines beeped so loudly that I wonder if she would be able to get any sleep. Zoya slowly opened her eyes.

"Mommy?" She tried to sit.

I hurried towards her and held her.

"Yes baby," I tried to smile. "Mummy's here."

Her blue eyes looked behind and beside me as if in search of something. "Where is Daddy?"

Goddess please....not this again.

What do I tell her now?

"Daddy is...." I prepared to say, but Zoya beats me to it.

"....With Bernice again, right?"

I opened my mouth and closed it. I didn't know what to say. I couldn't lie to my child and I couldn't tell her the truth, not in that state.

I tried my best to keep her from finding out about Louis and his indifferent attitude towards us, and his unconditional love towards Annie and her child, but what to do. It is no news anymore. Everyone knew about it, including my poor little baby.

Even the utensils in Crescent Moon Pack knew that the Alpha doesn't care about his child and Luna.

"No my love, Daddy is on his way here. In fact, he...."

Zoya shook her head and a lone tear strolled down her eyes as if she could tell that I was lying.

"Why does Daddy hate us so much?"

My heart shattered. My little girl didn't deserve this. She is too young to know what hatred means.

Why did Louis have to be so cruel to her?

"Why does Daddy care so much about Bernice and her mommy, but never for us?" My daughter was weeping now.

She is just a child why did the goddess have to put her through all of these.

"Tell me mommy, what have we done to make him hate us so much?"

"Shh..." I hugged her. "Daddy doesn't hate us. He's just busy making the pack a better place for us all."

I didn't know what else to say and tears wouldn't stop rolling down my eyes.

"In fact we mean the world to your Daddy. Especially you, my darling." I lied again.

Zoya coughed and I rubbed her back. "Speak no more sweetheart."

"If we matter so much to Daddy, then call him over now. I want to see him now!" Zoya raised her voice, making the ECG machine beep even louder and continuously.

"Calm down, Honey. Do not yell, you're unwell." I tried to hold her but she shifted out of my grasp.

"I'm fine Mommy," She forced a smile. "I just want Daddy." Then her voice became barely audible. "I only want to ask him why he hates us so much."

I had nothing to say. No word to refute or console her. After all she was right.

Why does Louis hates us so much?.... I also want to know.

"Zoya dear, I need you to calm down and I promise to call your Daddy."

She sniffed. "Now?" Her blue eyes staring hopefully at me.

"Yes, now." I nod.

She wiped her tears and her eyes stared at me expectantly as I dialled Louis's number, silently praying to the goddess that Louis answers this time.

Thankfully the phone was aswered at the second ring. Zoya happily took the phone from me. "Hello Daddy."

But instead of Louis's voice, a child's voice came instead.

"My Daddy is resting in the room and my Mummy said not to disturb him."

Zoya's mouth remained open as she stared at the phone as if she had seen a ghost. The phone fell out of her hand and she slumped on the bed.

"Zoya!" I screamed.

I rushed to hold her but she suddenly started convulsing. Louis had snapped the last thread holding her.

"Zoya. Baby, look at me." I cried as I click the button by her bed. Screaming at the top of my lungs. "Doctor! Nurse! Somebody help!"

The doctors rushed in and asked me to step aside. I watched them try to set up an IV.

"Her blood pressure shot up!" The doctors yelled as they tried to stabilize her. "She's slipping!" The doctor shouted, his eyes fixed on the machine. I followed his gaze and I noticed that the lines had become flat.

I went towards her as I noticed that her eyes remained fixed at the door.

"Zoya," I began.

"He won't come. Daddy won't come," she mumbled before her hand fell.

"Why is she...." I was about to ask but the words got stuck in my throat as I heard the doctor say,

"Time of death, 2:33am."
