The moment the eye bat shattered under that crushing wind blast, the link snapped like a wire pulled too tight.
Pain shot through Cain's mind, sharp and blinding, but he swallowed it without a sound. His body remained balanced on the tree branch, unmoving beneath the pale glow of the moon, yet inside his thoughts raced.
