Chapter 7 - Merissa .7

I stretched again, reaching into the sky and investigating the 'Her' mirror. It was a present from my dad, and it was enchanted, so no matter what, I couldn't break it. It was a standard mirror, it was a huge oval, and had some fae gold and silver wrapped around it. No matter what time of day, the gold and silver shone. You could always see yourself. Which was a neat party trick at times. I gasped as I saw the pendant that Zary gave me on my neck, the cool metal rested around my throat, while the actual pendant rested in the hollow of my throat. A Perfect black crescent moon was stamped into it, with a paw print to the side. I raised my hand and ran my fingers over it, feeling its warmth. I felt the sting of tears. Knowing Zary gave me something to protect myself, made me feel so much better.

It told me Amearia was watching over me.

But it also told me, my dream was completely real, and someone was trying to kill me. I quickly walked to my shower and turned on the hot water, letting the steam fill the bathroom. Next to the shower was a small closet, where I liked to hide my girly bathroom things, herbs for bath satchels, wash cloths, certain bubble bath soaps, things along those lines. I reached in and grabbed a mesh bag that held lavender and chamomile. It had a braided rope that made it so that I could put it around my shower head, and just relax when the steam made my bathroom smell relaxing.

I sat in the hot water for a moment, letting the scents fill me and push away my doubts and my fears, and I slowly started getting ready for the day. Starting with washing my hair, which was so long, I kept telling myself I would cut it. It was a pain to wash so much hair, and I had to have a special spell on my shower, so it wouldn't clog. I brushed my teeth and stepped out of the shower after washing my body. The scent of grapefruit filled the air, and I turned off the water. I looked down at my leg and noticed my leg was still red.

The claw marks were fading, just not fast enough.

I brushed my hair and quickly put it into a ponytail. I'd have to get it cut later, but for now. I had to investigate to find my real family. Maybe they would have some explanations as to why a Dreamweaver was after me. What did Alexia say their names were? The Anders? Where do you even go to find somebody? I padded my way into my bedroom, which was down the hall to the right. The door across from me was the guest room. I haven't gotten around to putting it together. All it held was a stray queen-sized bed.

I looked at my room, and it seemed so much smaller thanks to the nightmare that I had. My queen-sized bed was made, and against the far wall, its sheets were variants of green. Sage, hunter's green, and a lighter green that made me think of the forest when the sun rose. My pillows were the same pale green. My cover was a viridian green, with different shades winding through it, almost like branches. I kept my bed against the far wall, so I could always see my door. My white oak dressers were next to it on the left. I padded my way over there, wrapped in my towel, and sighed. Today was going to be a very taxing day. I curled my toes in the beige carpet and once again thanked my mother for talking me into wanting super plush carpet.

I reached in and grabbed my black tank top, which had a cross on the bottom right side, that came up to my mid stomach. It was a gift when I first came to the school. I grabbed a pair of black jeans with a few holes for the knees and higher up my thighs. I fished around the top drawer until I found a pair of white socks, a pair of teal lacy underwear, and a matching bra.

I walked over to my bed and sat down to get dressed. I looked up at my closet, and the mirror that Amearia made me put up. My friend stood at 6' 3". I used to swear she was an Amazonian. Zipping up my jeans, I walked over to the mirror and rested my hand on it, even though I was only 5'3", she knew where to put it. My hair was starting to reach the middle of my back, even in a ponytail. It was starting to get too long; I just never had time to get it cut. I looked at my face and tried to see what she saw. My own deep emerald green eyes seemed to mock me in the almond shape that Mr. Red Eyes had in my nightmare. I had high cheekbones and a 'button' nose, as Amearia would tell me. I felt a sharp pang of pain in my chest at remembering hanging out with my best friend and the silly girl talk we always had. She swore I had 'perfect full lips' and 'chubby cheeks' that just me all the cuter. As if. My chin was rounded, and I felt like I looked like one of those stupid angels that Professor Sanders loved. I rolled my eyes and turned my back. Deciding it was time to start the day, running down my stairs, I took them two at a time until I reached my front door.

I knew I had to take the day head-on, and I ended up running straight into a man I didn't know. Before I could back up, a pair of arms snaked around me and held me in place.

"Oof. I'm so. So sorry for that." I looked up into a set of beautiful sky grey eyes that looked almost as surprised as I felt. He let go a little, so I could back up, but he kept his hands on my waist. It made me raise an eyebrow at him, and he just lifted the corner of his mouth in a small smirk.

"It's not a problem, ma'am." He grinned at me, and in that smile, I felt my heart flutter; it held the promise of mischief. He had a strong chin, but my eyes hovered over his lips; he had a cupid's bow, and it helped make them look kissable. His hair was a dirty blond color, it was cut shaggy to his shoulders, it helped frame his face, and I'm sure he knew just how attractive he was. His white shirt clung to his chest and the top part of his arms. He either worked out every day or has been through some training.

 "It's my fault, I wasn't watching where I was going. I apologize."

His accent had me placing him in Axeria, our neighboring country. It held a bit of warmth to it that almost felt compelling to listen to. Axeria was known for having empaths. I wondered if that's what he was. I felt myself smile and backed up out of his hands to hold one of my own out.

"I should've looked before I stepped out of my door." His hand engulfed mine, and I felt a surge of power spike up my arm and making me take in a sharp intake of air. "I-I- I'm Merissa."

He bowed his head enough that I couldn't see his smile as he shook my arm. I couldn't help but wonder what he was thinking.

"Skylar." He inclined his head to the neighboring door to my apartment, "I guess this means we'll be seeing a lot of each other."

He pulled my hand closer to him until my other hand rested on his chest. It was as hard as it felt, but it also felt like nothing could break through him if he planned on protecting something. Or someone. I felt my pulse speed back up and looked up at him in time to feel his lips brush my forehead.

"I, I guess so." I felt the heat creep up my face as I stuttered my reply. Skylar grinned at me again while he let go of my hand and went into his apartment. When he closed his door, a part of me felt like I missed his touch already. I wanted to follow him into his apartment.

Be careful, Merissa. I stood on the walkway outside of our apartments and blinked a few times after hearing Alexia's voice.  You were just targeted by a Dreamwalker. Don't trust anybody new.
