Storm Kingdom

Weeping Town

10 BAC

The town was celebrating, for the news of King Argilac's victory over King Garse had reached them. The messenger described the battle in great detail, how a storm had plagued the Reach host, and how King Argilac had slain King Garse in a duel of epic proportions.

Ei had seen it first hand of course, and knew it wasn't as legendary as they made it out to be, but then again perhaps it was just her, for a duel between two normal humans wasn't something she would etch into history books.

Lord Tommen Whitehead had thrown a feast, distributing foodstuff to the smallfolk - though they did not know it was at Princess Argella's insistence- and everyone was enjoying themselves, including the Princess.

One issue was the dance offers she had received, and even when the Princess refused with a blunt statement about how she did not like dancing, that did not stop the young heirs from trying their luck in hopes of gaining her favor.

"Princess, have you heard of the latest rumours?" Lord Tommen leaned over to whisper to her, as the Princess was sitting near him as the guest of honor.

"Which ones?" She asked. Women gossiped as if their lives depended on it, so the amount of rumours going around were staggering.

"The ones about the archer in Riverlands, hunting down Ironborn like game, and disappearing to the wind before they could retaliate." Princess Argella blinked, impressed by the sharpshooter. Warriors of Teyvat could make those shots easily, but they had the advantage of a vision, or the powers their species brought, so hearing a human in this world do it was praiseworthy.

"I have not, but it sounds interesting." She said, diverting her attention to the Lord of the Weeping Tower.

"Aye, they say he is capable of shooting a man between the eyes half a mile away." Lord Tommen said, he did not put much stock into these rumours, but when more than one unrelated person talks about it, you suddenly start to believe.

"Any truth to them?" The Princess asked. Intelligence from the Riverlands was usually unreliable, much less unverified rumours.

"I heard more than one trader talk about the archer, saying he saved them from bandits, Ironborn and other renegades."

"Truly impressive if it is true, perhaps we should find this man and see how we can support his crusade against the Ironborn." The enemy of my enemy could possibly be my friend, so sending this man supplies could ensure his continued success in killing the Ironborn.

"That was my thinking as well." He turned around to converse with someone else, leaving the Princess to her thoughts.

Being an ordinary mortal human was hard.

Ei, when she was first awoken in this world, wondered what it would be like to live as a human, but she made a miscalculation.

This wasn't Inazuma, where the Electro Archon's mere presence ensured peace, where people didn't have to go to war, or worry about famines, raids, unnatural winters and lack of healthcare.

Women weren't simply the possessions of their husbands, and weren't seen as lesser.

Being a mortal in this world, and as a woman, meant struggle, degradation, and subservience, and being a man was only relatively better, because if you weren't a noble, you had to work on the fields, give high taxes, be called to war with a pitchfork if your lord couldn't or didn't want to arm you.

Ei was seriously considering stopping her little charade and beating some sense to these people, whether with words or with blade.

Her father's return months later had been an affair that met with much fanfare. It took so long because the Dornish decided to stir up the border without Ei having to do anything, and he had to divert his forces to discourage Dorne from any raids or attacks.

Ei, having been informed of her father's arrival, was waiting at the Weeping Town's gate for him and the soldiers.

Leading them on his black warhorse, the victorious Storm King painted an impressive picture, followed by his lords and knights.

He drew his sword, holding it high to the adoration of the smallfolk who were cheering for their King.

"Father, welcome back."

"Daughter" Argilac shouted, getting off his horse and gathering her in a hug, and had she been a mortal, Ei was sure there would be creaking of bones.

"I had no doubts about your victory, father." Ei said,

"Yes, thanks to you it has been an easier battle." Argilac winked, mentioning the storm that he had no doubt Argella was responsible for.

"Glad to be of help." She said, both having a silent acknowledgement on not mentioning the storm outright.

"So, how are you? Anything I should know about?" He asked about her welfare, raising his daughter on his shoulder, carrying her for the rest of the way.

"I have been well, busy with the Iron Works and the nobles, but nothing I couldn't handle." Ei shrugged, truly, these duties weren't difficult, for her at least.

"Yes, that. I heard it is already making great profit?" Argilac said, the rumours traveled like the wind after all, and even out there at war, he heard of her success.

"We already have orders for the next three months, and since coal has been discovered on grandfather's lands, I am making preparations to build another Iron Works near the Parchments." His daughter explained, drawing a laugh from the King.

"Hah, I wager he was happy with that." Knowing his good-father, Argilac knew it was a sucker's bet.

"He was, I also received quite the curious envoy, from the Kingdom of the Rock, Loren Lannister's good-brother, Edwar Marbrand."

"Loren sent an envoy? What for?" Argilac frowned. He had tried an alliance with the King of the Rock, but it had gone nowhere, and there should have been no reason for him to send an envoy, much less his good-brother.

"An alliance offer"

"They wanted your Iron Works, didn't they?" Argilac closed his eyes for a moment, realizing there was only one thing that could interest the Lannister King.

"Don't worry, I denied their request, but offered them trade agreements in return, but they weren't very receptive" The Princess assured the King, who nodded approvingly.

"To hell with Loren, we'll handle things by ourselves. Before I forget, I wanted you to be the first one to know, I have agreed to wed again" Argilac gave the good news. He didn't expect a poor reaction, as it was his daughter who told him to marry.

"That is good, to whom?" She nodded, as Ei would have felt bad if the blood of the Durrandon ended with how long of a history it had.

She could carry the name, but not the blood.

"Lord Caron's sister, but keep it quiet until I make the announcement"

"As you wish"

Ei regaled Argilac with tales of her work during his absence, speaking of the new roads, the plans to build Power Looms powered by water wheels, the state of the farming tools distribution, and most importantly, the amount of coin they earned from the Iron Works

The Storm King was pleased with the news, and let out a loud laugh at the amount, drawing attention to the two of them.

His first stop was the Iron Works, where Master Aren had given him a quick show of the process, much to the King's delight.

They left for the Weeping Tower after that, where a feast had been prepared for the King.

Wine, mead, and all kinds of other drinks accompanied a wide selection of food that day, and Ei had seen more than one person pass out from eating too much.

She was more interested in desserts, and although there was no dango, the Electro Archon still enjoyed herself on pies, cakes, and puddings.

Argilac, with great embellishment, spoke of the battle, where he had slain Garse, and almost took Mern, but the new King of the Reach had to be saved by his men and ran with his tail tucked between his legs.

Laughter, bawdy jokes and songs filled the night.

A week later, they were leaving for the Storm's End, and the time frame gave Ei the opportunity to meet Lord Garrin Caron. She had observed him during the battle, and had seen how he used his short stature to his advantage, dancing through the battlefield, distracting and frustrating the enemies.

Sitting down on the same table while Lord Caron and her father discussed the betrothal was another thing. While Garrin Caron did seem to be a rather decent lord, he was also an annoying one, boasting about how his sister was to wed the King, and Ei did not miss the looks he had given her.

Everyone assumed if Lord Caron's sister gave birth to a boy, the child would be the first in line for the throne, unaware that if she desired the throne, every single citizen of the Storm Kingdom gathered together couldn't hope to stop her.

Ei had ignored him after that.

The Electro Archon would meet Selena Caron at Storm's End, and hopefully, she wasn't as obnoxious as her brother was.

Storm's End

Settling back to her routine in the seat of House Durrandon, Ei completed the blueprints for the Power Looms, and was trying to decide where to build them.

The lands of House Dondarrion had great flocks of sheep and as such could supply large amounts of wool, but the reports regarding the construction of the infrastructure weren't very convincing.

House Cafferen on the other hand, lacked the necessary raw materials, be it wool or cotton, but were making admirable progress on the roads.

For now, Ei would let things proceed before deciding, and decided to spend her time on upgrades for Kage and the Thunder Dragon.

Her doppelganger received a sword, and a much sturdier body, strong enough Ei doubted anything short of a strike from her could harm Kage. Instructions on art of the fighting, mostly with weapons in the form of sparring - something Ei had desperately missed- as well as a power core capable of absorbing the sunlight and transforming it to Electro elemental energy.

This was a necessity, as Raiden Shogun was basically powered by Ei all the time, as the Electro Archon did not have a body, and her consciousness was inside Musou Isshin, which was held by the Shogun.

Kage, on the other hand, required regular charging to function, and since there were no Ley Lines to tie the puppet to, an alternative was required.

It took her a lot of trial and error, as this was something she had not tried before, but eventually she succeeded.

The Thunder Dragon received the same power core, only much bigger in capacity to power the massive construct, in addition to a longer body, more than doubling its size, which meant its weapons complement had increased as well.

Storm's End

9 BAC

New year had brought with it more than just another change in the calendars. The riders had reported that the procession bringing her new stepmother was seen, and would be here in the afternoon.

Stepmother.

Ei's birthmother - Joy Penrose- had died at birth, and she did feel bad about it to a degree, as no doubt her divine nature, dormant or not, had extracted a toll on the woman during labour, leading to her demise.

Her father, Argilac, did not talk much of her, but whenever he did, Ei could see that her loss had been painful for him.

And now, she was going to have a stepmother.

Her expectations were none-existent. She doubted it would be anything like the novels published by the Yae Publishing House, where the young protagonist endured all the wicked torment of the evil stepmother.

But, she did wonder what it would be like to have another sibling, even if they did not share blood or divine essence.
