Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Level Breakthrough

The next morning, faint dawn light pierced through the mist hanging over the servants' quarters.

Mo Fan dragged his still-aching broken leg, sneaking like a thief through the early-rising workers, hobbling step by step toward the back mountain.

His objective was clear: Supply Point No. 1.

Last night's heart-pounding "duel to the death" had earned him a fortune, but it also left behind a massive mess.

Summon No. 001 was nearly half-wrecked—three broken ribs and a fractured left arm.

And if he didn't process that invaluable Demon-Eye Rabbit corpse soon, it would rot and spoil, or attract even stronger predators.

So he had to move fast.

After a brief trek, Mo Fan finally found the hiding spot. The moment he squeezed into that concealed hollow tree, a heavy stench of blood hit him in the face.

There sat No. 001, obediently crouching in the corner, cradling the dead rabbit in its arms like some mentally challenged child hugging a stuffed toy.

"Let go of that girl... oh wait, let go of that rabbit."

Mo Fan sat down panting heavily, pulling a cheap utility dagger—standard issue for servants—from his clothes.

"Surgery begins."

After several days of dissecting rats and assembling No. 001, Mo Fan had grown accustomed to such bloody scenes.

The moment his blade parted the Demon-Eye Rabbit's fur, the System's assistance function gave him a strange sense of control.

In his vision, countless red dotted lines lit up, precisely marking the path of every blood vessel and meridian.

Mo Fan's hands were terrifyingly steady. Like a master butcher, he avoided every gland and venom sac, peeling off the complete rabbit pelt in one piece.

Next came those two eyes, red as gemstones, carefully extracted and placed into a leaf pouch he'd prepared beforehand.

"Not bad. Looks like I won't have to keep playing the White Devil forever."

Mo Fan watched with satisfaction as his experience bar ticked upward.

Now came the main event.

He turned to look at the mangled No. 001, his gaze growing fervent.

"001, straighten your legs."

Under the System's command, No. 001 obediently lay flat.

Mo Fan unceremoniously removed its two legs—grotesquely mismatched limbs cobbled together from human leg bones and wild dog hind legs.

Then he laid out the freshly extracted, still-dripping Demon-Eye Rabbit leg bones beside it.

These leg bones were a bit shorter, but their bone density was extremely high, and their peculiar curved structure contained astonishing spring-loaded potential.

[ Initiating Skeletal Editing... ]

Mo Fan's hands glowed with a faint blue magical light. This time, it wasn't simple splicing—it was true "Editing."

He used Mana to soften the joints, forcibly adjusting the angle of the rabbit leg bones to make them compatible with a human pelvis.

Click.

A crisp snap. A perfect fit.

Next, he removed the broken ribs from No. 001's chest and replaced them with the rabbit's sturdy chest bones.

Ten minutes later, the all-new Summon No. 001 (Ver. 2.0) stood up.

Mo Fan gazed at his creation, his expression complicated.

The current No. 001 was a biological nightmare:

Its Right Arm was a gibbon's arm bone that hung past the knee (Attack Range: MAX).

Its Left Arm was a human arm bone (for gripping).

Its Upper Body had broad human shoulders, but below the waist were two coiled, explosive reverse-jointed rabbit legs (Mobility: MAX).

And its Chest Cavity was packed with dense layers of beast ribs (Defense: UP).

"It looks like something Frankenstein slapped together while drunk..." Mo Fan rubbed his chin. "But this is the ultimate killing machine."

[ Undead Modification Level Up: LV. 2 ]

[ Bonus Experience Gained: +30 XP ]

Mo Fan quickly pulled up his panel and did the math: 720 (original) + 20 (dissection) + 30 (modification) = 770 XP.

Just 230 points away from leveling up.

About three first-order low-tier Spirit Beasts.

"No. 001."

Mo Fan patted the skeleton's sturdy new thigh. "Go test out your new running shoes."

This time, Mo Fan didn't go back to lie down in his room. To minimize latency and maximize micro-control precision, he chose to stay right there in that blood-reeking tree hollow, commanding from close range.

The hunt began.

The first unlucky victim was a Withered Leaf Vine.

This was a first-order low-tier plant monster that disguised itself as dead branches, specializing in ambushes.

When No. 001 passed by, the dead leaves on the ground suddenly exploded upward, coiling around No. 001's entire body like a python, attempting to crush its bones and inject paralytic digestive fluid.

If this were a living person, they'd probably be suffocating by now.

But No. 001 simply looked down at the vines wrapped around it.

It had no respiratory system; it didn't need oxygen. It had no blood; it feared no toxins. The Withered Leaf Vine's proud strangling technique scraped against the sturdy Spirit Beast ribs, producing only a creak-creak grinding sound.

[ Command: Tear it apart. ]

No. 001 extended that massive gibbon bone-hand and grabbed the vine's root.

A violent yank.

SNAP!

The Withered Leaf Vine was ripped out by the roots, green sap spraying everywhere.

[ Withered Leaf Vine Killed. Experience +80 ]

The second prey was a Wind Sparrow.

This first-order low-tier demon bird clearly looked down on the skeleton with its bizarre walking posture.

It perched high in the treetops, chirping mockingly, occasionally diving down to peck at No. 001's skull before swiftly pulling up, toying with this clumsy opponent.

"Flying pretty high, huh?" Mo Fan sneered from inside the tree hollow. "001, crouch."

No. 001's reverse-jointed rabbit legs bent sharply, compressing to the limit. Though they were just bones, under the drive of Mana, the elastic potential energy unique to Spirit Beast bones was instantly activated.

The moment the Wind Sparrow dove again, preparing to strike—

BOOM!

The ground exploded, dirt flying everywhere.

No. 001 didn't jump up—it launched like a cannonball.

That terrifying explosive power sent it soaring five or six meters into the air. The Wind Sparrow's eyes went wide with terror. Before it could even flap its wings, a massive bone hand snatched it out of midair.

Air Dunk!

No. 001 clutched the bird and crashed back down, its heavy frame slamming two deep craters into the ground.

Splat.

The palm closed. The world went quiet.

[ Wind Sparrow Killed. Experience +75 ]

The experience bar had now climbed to 925/1000.

Just one more.

Mo Fan directed No. 001 deeper in.

Finally, beside a dark stream, they spotted a Jungle Pit Viper sunbathing.

There was no suspense.

Equipped with the [ Rat-Tooth Knuckles ], No. 001 had no fear of snake constriction. The poison-coated knuckles precisely pinned the snake's head—and due to excessive force, nailed it straight into the rock.

[ Calculation: 925 + 80 = 1005 XP ]

[ Experience Full. ]

The instant the viper stopped writhing, Mo Fan—still hidden in the tree hollow—felt an unprecedented surge of heat.

This wasn't the gentle warmth of spiritual energy entering the body. It was something far more dominating—a golden wave of light exploding from the depths of his soul.

Hummm—!

A ghostly light only he could see erupted from within.

[ Congratulations, Host. Level Up! ]

And that persistent weakness—from the transmigration and the broken leg—was instantly swept away by the wave of leveling energy.

Mo Fan instinctively touched his left leg. Beneath the bandages, the fracture site no longer stung but tingled with an itchy sensation—the signal of bone cells regenerating at extreme speed under the nourishment of death energy.

Though not fully healed, he could feel that the red [ Severely Injured ] status had finally disappeared.

The pale blue System Panel refreshed frantically across his retinas, data cascading down like a waterfall:

[ System Notice: Experience Overflow. Level Up! ]

Mo Fan leaned against the cold inner wall of the tree hollow, staring at that line at the bottom of the panel that had finally turned from gray to green—"Remaining Processing Power: 11"—and his tense lips gradually relaxed into a cold curve.

He didn't laugh wildly. He just exhaled slowly, like a programmer who finally had enough computing power to run a new program.

"11 points of load..."

Mo Fan glanced at No. 001 standing guard at the entrance—the thing that consumed most of his resources (Load: 16).

"Finally..."

"Finally, I don't have to rely on just this one idiot son to support the family."

Mo Fan closed the panel, his gaze piercing through the cracks in the tree hollow toward the depths of the dark, boulder-strewn area.

"Unit 002, Daddy's coming to pick you up."
