With the tooth of the monster still inside Hitori skin, the pain coursing through his veins, Hitori tried to remove himself. However, the creature didn't allow that. Its sinister eyes were locked in with Hitori, who was in serious pain.
With the knowledge that the monster wouldn't let go, Hitori decided to bear the pain and take this as an opportunity to attack it. With the iron still in his other hand, Hitori struck the neck of the monster, causing it to scream.
In that instant, the monster released its teeth from Hitori's hand, moving backwards with a scream as the pain from the strike of the iron which was drugged deep within its neck felt intense.
But why wouldn't it?
With the anger and pain coursed throughout Hitori's body, obviously the strike will carry a lot of power, in the form of releasing his own pain.
Now that Hitori was free from the monster's grasp, he instantly jumped away creating a distance between themselves.
At this point, while the side of his body was in pain and his hand was bitten, Hitori had no choice but to sacrifice one side and take care of the other.
He used his right hand to hold his right, while his gaze fixed watching the monster struggle with the intense pain it felt.
Then it came to him.
"Looks like it doesn't have that much intelligence."
Hitori said this because the monster hadn't placed its hand on the iron in an attempt to remove it. Which meant that it was clueless. In other words, if it was a monster with real intelligence, it would have already tried to remove the iron.
"Hmph…"
Knowing this fact, Hitori saw it as yet another opportunity. In a flash, he dashed towards the monster, forgetting about the pain that he felt in his hand as that didn't matter at this point. He was faced with an opportunity, one that shouldn't be missed if given.
With less than a second to think, Hitori grabbed the shoulder of the monster with his left hand, while his right grabbed the iron, pushed it deep into the monster's, causing it to roar out loud.
Seeing the pain it was causing it, a smile curled on Hitori's face.
"Yes. It is affected."
A surge of satisfaction flowed within Hitori, and without hesitation, he pulled the iron out of the monster's neck and with a strong and precise blow, he struck it into the side of the monster's head, making it emerge from the other side.
"Argh!!"
The scream of the monster escalated, black blood sprouting out from its head. Upon seeing this, Hitori quickly dashed back and watched as the monster raged in agony.
In that instance, before Hitori's very eyes, the head of the monster began disintegrating. Like ashes, every part of its body began fading but by bit, leaving not a single trace of the existence of the monster's body, or rather, his childhood friend.
"Is… it dead?"
Upon seeing the outcome of actions, Hitori fell on his butt, as he watched the scene unfold before him. He had just killed a monster that he never guessed he could. But instead of feeling excited about it, his heart was filled with sadness.
Tears filled his heart, as he thought of his childhood friend. He never even got to say goodbye, and just like that she was gone.
"Ah!"
A sound escaped Hitori's lips.
The wound in his right hand brought him back to reality. The wound was deep, and if he didn't do something about it, he would lose a lot of blood and die.
Knowing this fact, Hitori quickly went to the area where he dropped the first aid box he took out earlier from his locker.
As he opened it, he stared inside for a while as the thought of what he could apply on the wound, circulated his head. But this injury wasn't something that one could just heal with a mere first aid.
If it was from a known animal like a scorpion or snake, some procedures could be carried out before healing. However, this was nothing of the usual but the bite of a monster that had never existed until this day.
Hitori was in a daze as the following thoughts crowded his mind, but he couldn't stay in such a state for so long. With the only conclusion he could come up with he took out a bandage, wrapping it tightly around his injury, before tying it up.
Even though he didn't know how he was going to heal it, at least preventing it from getting infected was the least he could do.
After wrapping it, Hitori stood up. His gaze shifted to where the monster had disintegrated.
"No sign left behind huh?"
"Killing that monster wasn't easy. And to know that there are more out there."
His gaze shifted to the window of the classroom.
"I wonder how the rest are holding up. Don't die on me guys."
_
Meanwhile… at the same time.
"Everyone this way!"
Outside the school building. The chaos hadn't calmed down one bit. It was still in an uproar with the attack from the unknown creatures. Those who were unlucky were lying dead on the floor. While those who were worse than unlucky, were turned into monsters. Forced against their will to kill.
This sight was unpleasant. It was like an apocalypse, a disaster had fallen onto earth and in no time it was going to go extinct. With this many people dying and turning into monsters, there seemed to be no hope for humanity.
History itself might not be around to record this event, because there wouldn't be any survival to tell it.
However, that didn't seem to be the case.
"Right this way!"
"It is safer here!"
Jenna and Phillip directed students who were still alive into a shelter. It was the basketball court. And since it was surrounded by an iron net, that was impenetrable. To them, it was the safest place to stay away from the monsters until help came.
However, little did they know; If this was happening in their school, didn't that mean it was happening everywhere else. So, where would the help come from?
With determined expression on their faces, both Jenna and Phillip were able to gather as many students as they could into the basketball field.
It was the least they could do since it was among the last words from their friend, and they weren't about to neglect it.
Carefully, they took students who they knew weren't bitten by a monster, but clean. Because they have already noticed it.
When one is bitten by the creature, they either die or turn into the monster. Although, the time rate for the latter was unknown to them.
Taking this fact into consideration, they made sure to ask each student if they were bitten or not, before allowing them to enter the court.
"Hurry!"
"Hurry!"
With their plan of safety, they felt that they would at least hold up until help came.
"Is that all of them?"
Phillip asked, turning to Jenna
Jenna had a determined expression. No expression of being frightened or scared. Just pure determination, like she was certain she was going to come out from this alive.
Phillip smiled inside himself. He was happy to see that he had made such strong friends. From Hitori to Jenna. If he were to die here, there wouldn't be anything he would regret.
"I think so." Jenna replied, cleaning the sweat from her head.
"We are far from where the most disaster is happening, so we should be good . I think we can close the gate now and wait for help to come."
Turning to Phillip, Jenna nodded, a sign for him to close the gate. And so he too nodded back.
Phillip made his way, he held the door and was about to close it, when suddenly a distant voice called out.
"Wait!"
Phillip halted, as he heard the voice. He squinted his eyes to get a clearer view, and then he saw a figure in the distance, running towards them.
"Who is that?" he asked, turning to Jenna since he couldn't see from a far distance.
"Jenna, it's me, hold on!" the female voice called out.
Jenna turned to the gate, looking at the face before recognizing the person.
"Oh, it's the student council president."
"Oh?"
"Yeah, let her in. But check if she's bitten first."
Jenna left the last words, as she left Phillip to handle the last survivor while she went to attend to those who were injured, but not from a monster bite.
The so-called student council president quickly picked up her pace and ran as fast as she could to the door of the court.
With her breath panting she said:
"Ha, ha… Thank you for waiting!"
She then tried to enter, but was instantly stopped by Phillip.
"Wait." Phillip required.
"I-Is something wrong?" she asked.
"Are you perhaps bitten by the monster?"
The girl hesitated before answering. Her gaze shifted to the people who were already inside the court. Every single one of them had a frightened and traumatized expression on their faces. Then she turned back to Phillip.
"No, I am not."
In a pink long sleeve sweater, she dragged her left arm sleeve with her right hand as if there was something there. Upon seeing this, Phillip squinted and asked.
"Why are you holding your hand like that?"
Suddenly, the so-called student council president's heart raced. Her voice trembled as she spoke.
"O-Oh… it's just a small scratch I got when I fell from running"
"So you are not bitten?"
"No."
Phillip stared at the place she was holding once more. An uneasy feeling coursing inside him.
"Alright then. You may enter." he said, opening the door wildly for her.
The instant she heard it, the so-called student council president let out a sigh of relief, but didn't make it noticeable. Her hands trembled as she felt the gaze of Phillip on her while she walked in.
As soon as she entered, Phillip slammed the gate and locked it, causing the student council president to jump in fear and instantly turned to see the cause before realizing it was just the door of the gate being closed by Phillip, only then did her mind come to an ease.
..
"Are you hurt anywhere?" Jenna asked.
She walked and examined those who had little bruises, caused either from a fall or something else that wasn't a monster bite. At this point, she had already separated those who were injured from those who weren't, making her workload easier for her.
Most of the students here were a year or two lower than her, making her as a senior to take care of them before the adults arrived.
However, other than her and Phillip who were the upperclassmen, there was one among them who was also an upperclassmen, and she was seated amongst those who weren't injured.
At that point, there was silence among the students in the court, as the sun was already setting. They were all waiting in anticipation.
Either to be rescued or for their luck to run out and be found by a monster.
The latter was discouraged. However, just when the silence was becoming familiar, a sound echoed.
KACK!
But nobody paid attention to it, as everyone was trapped in their own minds. However, the sound came out again, this time louder than earlier.
KAAACK!!
Suddenly, everyone's gaze shifted trying to spot where the sound was coming from. And then a voice shouted.
"It's here… a monster!"
KAAACK!
Everyone on the court quickly got up from the ground and ran to a safe space in fear as they gaze fixed at what was before them.
And there it was. The only person who didn't run away.
In a pink sweater, a monster began emerging, its body twisting in an abnormal manner, its head bent, hand shifted, eyes shaking.
Phillip's eyes widened as he saw the figure before him. The scene of a female human transforming into a monster unfolded before his eyes.
Unknowingly, in a quivering tone a word left his lips.
"President?"
